You must have got this in the back of the store where it’s over $5 in the “5 Above” section. I too bought a pair of their $8 bluetooth earbuds of a slightly different kind. I was shocked how good they were for being $8, but didn’t have high hopes for a long life for them. But you’re right, they do feel very cheap, ESPECIALLY the case! But mine don’t like to connect sometimes as well as doesn’t let me use just one without draining the batteries on both of them. To add to this, I have to pop them back into the case, close it, open it back up, pull them out and then hope they will work, and having a 50/50 chance of them doing so before trying to do it again to get them to work, which is still having higher hopes for an $8 pair of earbuds. On top of this, I can’t ever tell if they’re charging of not. The lights come on, but they just flash all the colors, so idk what they’re doing. These will work in a pinch, but don’t expect too much.

If you need cheap headphones for work 5 Below headphones are actually pretty good, you can get like 15 pairs for the price of one good pair but if they’re for work and can possibly get ruined having a couple pairs of these are nice to have as backup.

But, in terms of personal well-being, sometimes, it’s nice to just buy something cheap that you can afford right now so you can have a little shred of happiness from listening to music coming from your cheap headphones on your depressing daily bus commute to your low-paying job.

Touch control is just such a cheap feature these days, its at the point where none of my expensive headphones have touch control because its too easy to set off on accident, but cheap headphones use it because its easier to implement and cheaper than a physical button. My expensive headphones have either squeeze control for the really expensive ones or a real button for the watertight ones (touch wouldnt work underwater anyways)
