I Got Scammed For Selling This Motorcycle 3 Years Ago

Sucks, but its on you.... Every states DMV has a release of liability form (CA its attached to the title) make sure you have one attached with every title before the sale. You grab his license and fill out his info on the release of liability. Send it in to DMV certified and KEEP a copy for yourself. Ive sold plenty of bikes and Ive had a few not get retitled (lazy buyers or out of state buyers) and here in CA they come at you later to ding your taxes if they see expired reg and no non op. The ONLY thing saving me was keeping copies of the ROL. Even the DMV I sent the original ROL to says they "never got it". Ive had to provide the info on my copies a few times to keep my taxes from getting hit. Always cover your own on sales. An ROL would have covered you on this and they would have had info to go after the purchaser. Hope it works out for you in the end.

Oregon you send registration to DMV stating bike was sold and to who. Then you are in the clear.

Throw some knobbies on it and go tear up the trails. 🙂 I had the same issues years ago. Sold a bike and a month later the cops showed up at my house to arrest me. I explained to them that I sold the bike and had a few witnesses vouch for me.

should've been no reason for you not to be able to just say "not my bike" and let them deal with it. been there with my GN400.

I think you got scammed by the towing company bro. Something similar happened to my in-law one time signed a vehicle over it was left abandoned still in his name. Towing company called him with a bill for towing and storage that towing company gave him the option of simply surrendering it no title needed. Think the towing company you dealt with just seen dollar signs and led you a line of BS because they knew scrap value of that bike was a small percentage of what they could get out of you.

How does this happen man? here if you sell something that's it game over......it's not your problem anymore. The seller files a sale document to the Motor reg department and finished all at the point of sale. Even your explanation makes no scene.
