I Got Scammed Out of £47 by a Fake Shower Head Website on Page 2 of Google Search Results

In this video, I share my personal experience of being scammed by a fake shower head website that appeared on page 2 of Google search results. I will describe how I fell for the scam, the red flags that I missed, and the steps I took to try and recover my money. I hope my story serves as a cautionary tale and helps others avoid similar scams.

Look for the little lock icon at the web page address. But yes, when you’re excited about the product/price you’re blinded… bad luck old bean. 😕

If a site doesn't let me pay via paypal or google pay then that's all the red flags i need to exit. NEVER give your card details to an unknown site. Any site worth using will have reputable 3rd party services to handle their card payments.

Good to have you back! Always pay by credit card, only use your debit card for things you can see (face to face) or to get cash out of a machine

The possibility of getting scammed by a company on an unfamiliar website is what keeps me going back to Amazon, that is, sold by Amazon and shipped by Amazon. Their prices might be a little more expensive, and sometimes the product I receive is below par, but I have never been duped or defrauded by Amazon.

One of the reasons I started making scam awareness videos is because my dad is like you and trawls the net looking for the cheapest option. A Samsung tablet was the latest thing that never arrived. SMH every time he does it.

Pretty much every website advertised on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram is also either a scam or a drop shipping company selling tat from aliexpress. My wife had a similar mistake to you over xmas with a thing she thought looked cool. We did eventually receive something but it was not as advertised and broke almost immediately. Company are refusing to refund unless we return (at our own expense) to Hong Kong. Similar red flags as the website you're showing off and I've spent some time with my wife showing her what to look for in the future as well so as not to get scammed (or at least ripped off) again.

If you paid by card then when the goods don’t arrive in the allotted delivery time and/or the company does not respond to emails then ask your bank for a chargeback to be undertaken. It can take a month or two to process fully but you will get your money back from the bank. The time taken is for visa/Mastercard to contact the retailer to ask for evidence of the transaction and proof of shipping. Of course if it’s a fraudulent website they won’t respond and you’ll get refunded. In most cases lots of other people will have been defrauded as well so the more chargeback claims made will be proof enough of fraud and you;lol get refunded even quicker.

Wife "agreed" to something she wasn't aware through one of the FB affiliates. Ended up closing my bank account, and getting a new one. It was just easier than trying to get help from the bank to deal with it. I think it was about two years before the bank finally agreed it was fraud and reversed the disputed charge, and fully closed the account. Haven't used FB since.

People will go to the second page of search results looking to save a handful of pounds, and this is exactly why they pray on the gullible. The name of the site didn’t even match the URL, and when the price is low, it’s low for a reason. I would rather pay a little more to buy from a retailer I know is legitimate, just not worth the hassle trying to save the price of a McDonalds meal.

PayPal wouldn't save you if you buy using debit cards. You even mention you're a doctor in this video. How is it possible you still purchase things using debit cards instead of credit cards? This would have been a 10 second video instead and you would have gone to bed fast asleep.

I'm often checking websites for my wife if she shops for something. I was always told to check the "About Us" section before doing anything - and that one would raise a red flag for me straight away. But it's very easy to get caught out when you're so keen on getting a lowest poss price.

Unfortunately that's not always the case, I purchased a pair of jeans on a site on facebook a couple of years ago and when they arrived they were incredibly small and didn't have actual pockets like they had advertised but pictures of pockets! just as one example of what was wrong with them. I then checked the reviews and lots of other people had suffered the same. I went to paypal and they were not interested, told me to send them back to the company which turned out to be in China and would have cost me more than the £23 I paid for them. I showed paypal some of the horrendous reviews and they were not interested!
