In the actual war, the British invaded navally at Boston, New York, and the head of the Chesapeake to reach Philadelphia, and invaded from Canada via the Hudson Valley and from Florida to reach the Carolinas. I guess in EU4 they can just swarm you through the wilderness if they want to.
@RipOffProductionsLLC12 күн бұрын
I remember way back when I first bought EU4(which I think was around the time the El Derodo DLC cane out?) One of my first playthroughs was the 1776 stardate as the USA. Somehow that resulted in me getting the Cold War achievement(win war with 0 battles) because I was running around avoiding the Brittish doomstacks unseigeing my territory, and since the wargoal was protecting my capital eventually the warscore just ticked up enough to let me whitepeace out with independence...

One thing about the alternate start dates is they show how ridiculously fast colonization happens in a normal game - irl the North American interior was only just beginning to be explored by the game end date of 1821 and independent Native American groups persisted until the turn of the 19th century. Hopefully eu5 is more realistic
@santiagonicolasandradeeche98443 ай бұрын
It’s because they try to balance the Spanish/portuguese colonization that in real life was so fast for other nations, and the problem is there But well you also can be an Australian tribe and annex Hungary so you can take what you want 😀
@Rynewulf3 ай бұрын
@@santiagonicolasandradeeche9844 But then irl a lot of interior south and central america wasnt explored or directl claimed and controlled for centuriee either. An independant Inca state was still operating in the 1600s, the Spanish had to wait out a century before the isolation pulled it apart and local colonials invaded in the 1700s. The Mapuche were still controlling the southern half of Chile and Argentina in the 1800s. The Maya were still having big rebellions up to the 1800s in the Yucatan War. Interior Angola and Mozambique werent reached until the late 1800s, and control over the Phillipines was so indirect parts of it like Sulu just openly changed hands. Honestly quite a lot of colonial conquests the world over were dominating coastlines and connected cities, and spending centuries battling for overlordship not the kind of direct conquest and control you see in games like EU4
@raginasiangaming9103 ай бұрын
I mean, it's a paradox game. Most of the game revolves around ahistorical outcomes.
@coloradoing91722 ай бұрын
@@santiagonicolasandradeeche9844 Because 1. The Spanish were subjugating pre-existing nations in Meso and South America. 2. They kind of just "claimed" most of the land they "colonized" without actually controlling it. 3. They barely settled or developed their colonies, seeing them as resource pools more than anything else.
@crusaderACR2 ай бұрын
@@coloradoing9172 This is not completely true. There was very real control in the colonies, you're just seeing it the wrong way. Spain wasn't in Peru and Mexico to colonize, but to conquer. For example in the Inca Empire they demanded allegiance to the native nobility, had them pay taxes, get baptized, teach Spanish to their lords, paved roads, built forts to keep them loyal. The disloyal native noble houses would have their lands taken and their leaders executed. It was a take over, and more than that, a conquest. Not at all mere claims, there was very real power. Yes it wasn't super centralized, but that's just how feudalism works. The actual system of government used was already seen in Spanish Netherlands and the K. of Naples. That there were only a few Spanish towns in South America doesn't matter at all because that was never the point. That Cuzco had a low Spanish population was as much of a non-issue as Brussels having a low Spanish population. Would you say Spain "merely claimed" the Netherlands, just because it was ruled by a viceroy, and below him the local nobles, and a low population of Spaniards?

Given that in modern EU4 it's rare for regions to fall behind in tech like they used to, and that's very much still a thing in alternative start dates, perhaps it's something you could try? It'd be tough no doubt, but being able to save some of the great Indian, Asian, or African nations from European domination could be epic. This might be not so big a challenge for nations like Qing or Mughals (who are at a 4 tech disadvantage in 1700 for example, but are still powerhouses), but someone like Kongo or the Rozwi Empire have a 6 tech disadvantage, and the Portugese on their doorstep. There's also lots of cool tags pop out in the later start dates that players won't often see, which could be a good jumping off point.

the most important key to winning this war is to act like you're getting full annexed and thus losing if you do fail. max loans, merc stacks, whatever. once you start acting like you lose if you fail, and thus go all in, then it becomes far easier than if you do otherwise.

Man, this is why the U.S. is lucky a meta gamer didn’t found it. George Washington was really not that great of a general, he got lucky with some European help and a neat little river crossing, but he was a great and humble leader so that’s why we remember him so well, literally just “he was a good guy” with a side of leadership skills. A meta gamer would actually have fired Washington though, this is accurate. 🤣

Also played Tokugawa and Dzungar before. I got this achievement a few years ago by legitimately winning the war. It took some work but basically the strategy was to basically wear down the invasion forces while I built up an economy at war, not easy but is doable. Eventually I got enough money scraped together to have a couple of merc stacks and a basic Navy, but I ended up not needing the Navy, I just kept retaking the provinces they were able to capture and after a couple of years their desire to continue the war after a couple of years collapsed as they were not able to hold their gains and then they got into a War in Europe and that was existential to them so I was able to peace out by holding my own. It really felt like I was George Washington because I avoided strong stacks until I had the forces to corner their large stacks, once that happened and the war in Europe triggered, I had enough warscore to peace out for money.
