Tinman, hope all is well with family. Baby Charlie growing like a weed. Just wanted to drop a line to tell you thank you for all the great content. You helped me last year with my Echo 302 and other builds. Just finished getting a pioneer 1110{1965} running after over 20 years of sitting on a shelf and boy does it run sweet! This has been a great way for me to spend time and staying occupied. Love getting the vintage saws running again.Thank you and seasons greetings to you and yours.

I have exact B77 like yours (actually yours might be early L77 because of those AV rubbers...around 1971). Also have A65 which is the same except the piston and jug (52 vs 48mm bore). The puller for this saw is simple to make. Take about 5mm thick steel flat profile and dril holes to mach pattern on the flywheel. Take 3 screws M3 or M4 cant remember and choose the length of screews so they screw into flywheel about 5-6mm before you get tension. Then you increase tension in each screw gradually and hammer the plate that sits on the end of the crankshaft. I also insert a 3 mm bearing ball into a crank end hole to save threads. Also helps to use some penetration fluid a night before. Merry Christmass

Merry Christmas! As others have stated, you can use steering wheel puller with 3 long 4mm or 5mm bolts that mounts into inner holes.I made one from scrap metal when building 180S. It was scary tight on that saw. Should have put that puller into that box with the saw.
@robertaitchison1753 Жыл бұрын
Hi Tinman! I had to make similar puller, the steering wheel puller I have I could not get the screws close enough with large flat washer needed on the m5 x.8 machine screws I pull the hex lugs and springs and leaving the fan on (but is a good idea to and remove the Fan and get the gunk Out) probably dirty points The condenser is obsolete but there is one company I believe facet that sells them. Cheers from B.C

That flywheel looks like a Stihl 041 same ignition set up . Those 3 small screw holes I think they might be 4mm.7 but I would double check the tread size on your saw. I made 3 bolts and used a steering wheel puller. I just slowly tightened the puller with a 1/4 battery impact and when it came off it was loud. But came off cleanly no damage.

Hey buddy I made up a puller using 65mm flat bar the same puller can be used for 2100cd, solo 670-603, Stihl 07-08s it is a priceless tool now

They really should be pulled and not hammered off...due to their construction....you can make a puller easily enough....Small bolts i believe are m4... keep em goin into 2023 my Friend !!

Don't try to pull it off completely with the puller. Just get tension on it and then smack the end of the puller. It'll pop right off. Repeat if necessary. I hope you and your family Have a very merry Christmas and happy new year.

I have a substantially better removal rate with the old fashioned hammer by first adding a little acetone+transmission fluid to it and letting it sit. Most stuck flywheels are just a few specks of dry rust or crud. The penetrant/oil/detergent package really helps them let go like they should.
@tinmanssaws Жыл бұрын
These I find have to be pulled as they are steel in steel. I've never smacked one off.

Husqvarna 502 51 4902 is the puller that you want. It works on most Husqvarna saws. I have used Stihls version of this tool as well on these very stubborn flywheels with great results. I got one from my dealer but I believe sawsalvage and or HL Supply carry them as well. They are well worth the money especially for one working on the older saws. Merry Christmas!

Thank you for that carb rebuild. I rebuilt the first one on a husky 181. And I put the diaphragm and gasket in the wrong order on the needle side. And could you tell me how many degrees you would go on a 661 with a hyway popup piston. I would think probably a couple each way, it has a max flow and bark box. It's a work saw and I like lots of torque in the cut. Would like to be able to bury a 42 in big wood. And on the intake side would you open it up at all or just take a couple of degrees off of it. I watched your how to port series with the echo, beautiful job by the way. I own a tree service Superior TreeMasters been at it for twenty years. I understand fuel mixture and bar and chain maintenance. A little background for the porting numbers. Thanks again I like watching you seems like your a good honest dude.

To bad on the 77 flywheel. Nice to see an old saw getting a second chance. That pipe is going to be crazy, forsure. Can't wait to hear it. Maybe a three prong outside puller on that flywheel with a little heat might free it up. Someone once told me once, when you have a sticky flywheel give it a little tap on the side where the woodruff key is and a shot of PB blaster, to break it free. Maybe worth a try. Sometimes they can be pretty stubborn as you well know. Mele Kalikimaka (Merry Christmas) TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙

Tinman - I was having a discussion yesterday with a customer who is thinking of having a saw ported. He asked the question, "How much horsepower or torque or speed increase can you get from a porting job?". I'm interested specifically in an amount in percentage. Might it be 3-5 percent increase in speed or torque or more, and if more, how much? Thanks! By the way, I've learned a lot from you about how saws are built from your cutaway videos and more about timing and how things function and how a timing wheel is used. I hope to have all this information to apply to at least one saw I took apart 18 months ago due to recoil rope violent pullback, possibly from slop in the flywheel from a cast-in key. That flywheel can move about 5 degrees even though the key is flawless, with zero deformation. Thanks again!

It’s all stock and looking for a little more get up and go!! Any ideas for a good performance pipe for my 2159??? And yes those welds or should I say tig welds definitely look pretty good!!! If you ever are looking for a good tig welder definitely look for a lady that can tig weld!!! Some of the best tig welders I have seen have all been from lady’s that can tig weld!!! Being a millwright in the trades for 20 years the best pipe fitters or welders I have seen are definitely lady’s for sure!!!! Awesome video buddy and remember keep up all the hard work buddy!!!!!
