It’s beautiful watching you cut those logs like butter, the 394 was impressive, but I got so much love and nostalgia for the 044. My logging buddy and mentor had a 044 magnum saw that he used to teach me and pass on knowledge about dangerous felling, fixing saws, milling planks without a milling jig. It’s like comparing classic cars and trucks, the best one is a personal and magical thing, and everyone has a different opinion. Thank you again for sharing the fun and inspiration

I started logging with a beat up 562, crank shaft sheered off after a long list of other small things happened. Kept it as a back up saw. Went to the 575 and it wasn’t enough power for how much heavier it was and also had little issues with it. Got myself a 394 from 1997 and fell in LOVE. I use it every day now and will forever!

@ironwoodworkman49173 жыл бұрын
@@jamiedalluge9472 Yep, The 371 had little more power and the 044 was about 1/2 pound lighter. Old Stihl saws are like the gold of chainsaws. Kinda like CAT parts. They are painted gold because they coast more than gold.
@DaveyBlue323 жыл бұрын
The 044’s had that high rev...sharpened right they were super fast...just couldn’t let them get dull and push them under their power curve... I’ve always been a 371 guy but they definitely have a place of respect in my mind...like the 026... I was a 346- ported 350-353 guy but the 026 deserves it’s props too...
@ironwoodworkman49173 жыл бұрын
@@DaveyBlue32 Yep, They are all good saws. I really think it depends on the work you are doing. Are you cutting in steep mountains in soft wood all day. Or maybe in hardwood on flat ground. Most of the time I'm on very steep ground and in soft wood. But I do get time on hardwoods as well in WV on steep hills. When I can I pick the chain, bar, and powerhead for what I cutting that day.

Hi Tinman!!😀😀 The o44 is a fabulous saw . I used to log in the early 90s with a 044 . Those saws were so dependable. Day after day week after week month after month and you never had to do anything to them except blow them out once in a while and keep the air filter clean. Wish I still had those saws but I traded them off for 046 and then I went to the ms460. I really love the ms460 and will probably never need to ever get any different saws in the 75cc class. Take care my friend!!😀😀 Logger Al

Tinman, You are a young buck compared to me, but no lie, I still remember about 10 years ago when I was 50, a 75 year old man who would come into our local small town breakfast joint, was limping a bit. He said he fell out of a tree while doing some trimming on his property. That guy lives life to the fullest.

@tinmanssaws I know this is an older video, but as an update on my last post, I wanted to wish you and your wife well after hearing that your daughter had to get her arm in a cast. I also wanted to say how as a novice saw operator who began with a Stihl 026 in 1994 as my only saw until roughly 5-7 years ago, I had always wanted an 044 and 066 to compliment it.
@nighttrain02211 ай бұрын
As I learned more about how saws are built and are supposed to operate optimally with good seals, tuned and sharpened right, etc. I now have knowledge I lacked from starting with a brand new saw. I learned about gummed up fuel systems to get my 026 running again, got a 2nd 026 then an 044 and a 660 back around 2017-2018. Now, my first Husky I mentioned yesterday, the 394. At a month shy of 60, I look forward to getting back into regular sawing as I seek to tidy up our trees that threaten our home, outbuildings and vehicles.

Myself I have numerous Sthill and husky saws. In my opinion the 046 is very noticeable more powerful than the 044. I've got the 044 12mm ms440 and ms441m tonic And I've got the 046, 460 and 461. I've ported all of them over time and in my case the 046 was slightly quicker than the others. The more annular design of the 461s transfers do use noticeably less fuel that the other 77cc saws. I am more of a Stihl fan but none of these will compete with my 395xp it's just too big. Now my 066 flat top is almost a dead match with my 395xp. The husky is slightly larger in displacement,3 or 4 cc I think.please dont attack me I'm not trying to knock any brand. Though I'm a stihl fan I am forced to accept the fact that the 395xp may be the greatest chainsaw ever made. I absolutely love your vids by the way.

I've got the same bar, chain, and dogs on my 394. The saws are animals. I got the dogs with the replacement full wrap handlebar. The differences, my saw is BEAT UP. I bought it as such for a very good price. It came with a parts saw. The stock 7-pin sprocket was in tough shape, missing pieces and all. So bought an 8-pin for it. It still pulls, buried, with that 8-pin just as well as it did with the 7-pin. Your 394 seems to have the same chain speed that mine does with the 8-pin. That may be the difference between the 2095 and your 394.

The 94 typically runs better than the 95. I used to work on Amish saws. They usually liked Jonsered, but some of them liked the Huskies on the big stuff. A saw typically would last one to two years. Had one trade his 394 in on a 395. We caught hell for that one. My boss ended up taking the saw back, and finding him a NOS 394.

Other things that you can make an adapter out of; An old Starter Spring is partially hardened and already flat so its easy to bend the ends in and make an 'S' adapter. Also, an old piece of 3/8 metal fuel line cut in short pieces to fit over the bar studs will help 5/16 bar studs fit a 3/8 bar.

More space on the 394 than the 044 and the shape of that rubber-guide in the back of the 044's sprocketcover seems to catch the chips. Same issue on the 026 and so on, cause generally they all share the same cover. The advantsge is, that you can easily upgrade to that "never-get-lost" screws by changing the chainbar-studs to the longer ones from e.g. new MS362 C-M and fitting the older(big) Cover from the MS261 (with that screws) but be aware: the new covers (witht that horizontal finns) do NOT fit!
