The way Castiel says "you don't think you deserve to be saved" breaks my heart. It's not a question, it's a statement. Cas tilts his head slightly when he realizes it. The delivery is spot on, Cas is so genuinely confused and saddened by the idea of that. Like, the best dude ever thinks he's a piece of shit, basically.

The prducer was right before this episode got aired. She told Misha, "Your life is about to change tonight." And there you go, Misha became the beloved Castiel and he's one of the fan favorites even after the show ends.

This was mentioned in the article. "My character started in the first episode of the fourth season and i went to the party for it. At the time i thought i was only doing three episodes and i didn’t really know anything about the show. When the scene you are talking about came on the screen, Sera Gamble, one of the writers/producers on the show leaned over to me and whispered, “your life is about to change.” I thought to myself, “Man, this woman has a really overblown sense of this show. This is just another guest starring arc on some silly show.” I was wrong. Sera was right." I appreciate that the show runners understood that the true appearances of angels were alien and horrifying. Castiels first few appearances show him to be powerful and kind but still off-putting. The actor nailed it perfectly. Even after the show jumped the shark, the actors were still portraiting their characters as best they could.

@ericwhite1942 Not all showrunners, just Eric Kripke. He's the one who understood how angels are supposed to be. From season 6 onwards, the show started treating the angels as if they're Kryptonians or Saiyans rather than the terrifying biblical creatures they are. The show should've definitely ended at season 5.

I find it kinda interesting that castiel’s vessel was a devout man who prayed to be possessed, yet Castiel ends up going rogue and his vessel never seems to resist or become upset

I remember when this episode came out that night. They actually based him on a real life Archangel named Cassiel (Hebrew Qaṣpīʾēl "God is my wrath"; or sometimes "God is my leap") Kafziel or Kafsiel Arabic Kasfaya'ill This Angel rules over the planet Saturn, and spends time on earth near oceans. He's kind of bipolar. He can be very wrathful and have a temper as bad as Michael or he can be gentle. Sometimes called the Angel of Tears. Interesting though, the Archdemon Azazel who was the first bad guy on this show, actually rules over the planet Saturn as well. So when John Winchester summons him before he saves Dean from dying, you can see he's using Azazel's real life sigil which is a sigil of the planet Saturn. They should have gone with Cassiel's real lore. But they changed it. Instead they made *Castiel* the show's Angel the "Angel of Thursday" (instead of Saturday) because the show used to come on, on Thursday at 9pm. They took one of the most boring days out of the week and actually made you excited for it. It sucked when they changed the time and day of the show.

You know I always hated how they nerfed angels. When Castiel was first introduced it was badass. Demons ran in fear at the mention of an angel being near by but over time the badassness was lost. Even with Castiel, over time he lost that imposing demeanor.

Great intro, it’s a shame that they kept nerfing Castiel season after season, so that they could justify more regular appearances. I think it would have been better if he’d appeared a little less often, still been humanized but remained at the cosmic level. Idk, maybe that’s just me, I stilled enjoyed the show but some of the “strength/ability scaling” became a bit wonky in the final seasons.
