Even Red thought that Andy was guilty and didn't believe otherwise (despite Andy's protesting his innocence all along) until Tommy told them about Elmo Blatch. I did only 13 months in prison while awaiting trial for a misdemeanor I refused to plead guilty for, but it's a sad feeling when you're friends you make in there end up leaving before you do. I cannot imagine how sad Red felt because he truly loved Andy like a brother and was no doubt very happy for him but he would miss him very much. I imagine at least a few years passed from the time Andy escaped and the time Red got out on parole.
@BethHarmon-yh8ms6 ай бұрын
I think it was no more than a year passed by before Red and Andy met up again. It was 1947 when Andy arrived at Shawshank, and when Red had his first parole hearing in the film. 10 years later in 1957, Red has another parole hearing and is rejected again. Andy escapes in 1966. So since Red usually has a parole hearing every decade, I think we can assume he has his last parole hearing in 1967, when he's finally released. I would say it was another month or two after leaving Shawshank that Red decides to take a chance and look up Andy in Mexico. Now depending on exactly when in 1966 Andy made his break from prison, I would say at the most, maybe a year and a half, again it would depend exactly how early or how late in 1966 he escaped. I'm still saying it was most likely a year when the two men were reunited.

At :10, the way the camera following Andy's car pans off over the cliff, like a bird, followed by Red's analogy of Andy being like a colorful bird... that's just great cinema.

Not one academy award yet almost certainly the greatest movie ever made. This movie should be made into a golden DVD and sent into space on Voyager 3. Every word is perfect and so is every scene. In no single place could you make a change and make this movie better. 10/10.

A movie that holds the virtues and vice of man. We have friendship, love, integrity, compassion, fearlessness, hopefulness VS cruelty, greed, fear, oppression, untruthfulness, weakness. Life is about the passionate virtues and vices of man, its all about our emotions. This movie laid them out as truth clearly and entertainingly. The movie got to my heart and refused to leave.

My work colleague just finished University and he's staying in Japan for a year. We were in the same job interview together, man. We always went to lunch together and just bantered around untill one of the managers noticed and told us to go back to work. I'm going to miss you, Sam. My big, tall, sort of socially awkward friend. I hope you have a nice life and a great career. Mean while I will still be working at Asda full time hoping I will be able to move on with my life.

True. SR is timeless, but FG had more impact at the time because of it referencing historical/cultural moments of the 60's and 70's that a lot of people watching in the cinemas were alive at the time to experience.

I think everyone can relate to this scene especially. You either lose a friend because they were great until they left your life or some friends turn out to be not good and leave giving you a sense of betrayal... Either one, when you realize the love and closeness is gone, nothing hits harder... Nothing. You just want that closeness back with that friend who you entrust in or even that companion and ex-lover... You just want that loving connection you had for that person you genuinely cared about back... You wish it was that way forever but as Red said that some birds can't be caged... People can leave for good or bad reasons that hurt but it's always better to remember the good connection you had rather than the fact they're gone or even lost... Just remember that there was good in that relationship...

My youngest brother thinks of our mom when he sees this scene. She died of cancer when he was 11. He kinda retreated into movies for his "therapy". I always tear up at this scene (as with many others). I can't help but think of the pain as he was going through as he watched her dying. He actually related this scene to his pain about mom. Oh and MickeyD1...if Titanic wasn't released the same year as Shawshank, it would have won a shitload of Oscars. J.Cameron can thank his lobbyist for that
