I've had ct scan of my abdomen for suspected appendicitis. The operator did the scan twice as he didn't get a clear picture the first time. Now I'm worried that I got more than 20 msv radiation a single day. I’m in depression because of that.

I’ve heard of that, it is crazy that they would do that and it shows how little the technicians know about radiation exposure from ct scans. My technician didn’t even know that a ct with contrast translates to a higher effective dose of radiation lmao. Anyways I basically had 2 ct scans within a month, and I am also worried. But what can we do? Statistically, we should be okay, but we could also be fucked. I would say just try to live healthy to keep your body as strong as possible.

i had 2 head ct scans one was like 10 years ago and now im 32 and had one 2 weeks ago problem is anxiety gets me thinking i have something wrong but once you learn stop ct scans and always do either a mri or ultrasound even an x ray x rays are nothing they are very very very low like a few hrs to days of background radiation

@@kevOzilla I blame over zealous ER doctors for so quickly wanting to give patients CT scans without a true proper warranted need being worth the cumulative and permanent DNA damage to the patient and cancer risk associated with it

@@lifewithamyra4187 Thanks for your question. Although CT’s generate more radiation than standard x-rays, two CT’s, especially weeks or months apart, are not detrimental to your health. You’re fine.

A question. I had a head and chest CT (with contrast) done during the same session. Now I must have gone in and out of the CT 4-5 times with it spinning on each occasion. Does that not count like having 4-5 CTs?

im in the same boat bro but i had a ct head scan like 10 years ago and just had one now at 32 at the er because of feeling dizzy and lightheaded and anxiety shouldnt have asked for a ct scan but i just say its done from now on dont have anymore only mri its good to talk to others that are in the same boat

@@kevOzilla The problem is, if you come to the ER with, say chest and head pain, they'll do a CT for both areas. It's a standard procedure to check for bleeds and it's quick. The thing is though, we are exposed to gamma rays everyday, whether inside or out. Cheers form Down Under :-)

I had one on my neck, then they had to re-do it because I had a necklace on. It was about 20 seconds into the first one when they stopped the machine. That stressed me out..

Chris, thanks for your inquiry. I wouldn’t stress about it if I were you. The technologist that runs the CT always takes an initial x-ray that is considered low-dose. It is called a scout film. It evaluates the overall anatomy before the actual scan itself. My assumption is that they saw your necklace while taking the scout. Hope that helps.

Sir, I understand your concern, however, in order to cause cancer, these x-ray doses would have to be significant to cause cancer. Additionally, cancer would not be caused immediately following an exam. Even if you did receive a dangerous dose, it would be weeks or months before any signs of illness. Even further, your brain cells are highly resistant to x-rays compared to other cells like your lymphatic or reproductive cells. Here in the US, we do have patients that think their symptoms have been caused by x-ray exams when almost always, their issues were caused by another source, like stress, food, medications, smoking, alcohol, etc.. Dear Amyra, x-rays are like a Papercut. The second you get exposed, your body starts healing. This means that within a few days your body recovers back to normal. This is why x-rays are particularly dangerous when you get a lot of them in a short period of time. But your exams were separated by several weeks. That is adequate healing time. Best.

Sandeep, you’re fine. It is true that you want more time in between CT scan, however you will heal from these exams. Try to avoid x-rays for a couple of months…BUT if you still have stones and need tests to help with your treatment, get them.

I had definetly the same. Don't worry, you can't change anything. Read this article - in the last century children in very young age received at least 1.5Gy to their heads (30-35 mSv once) to treat the ringworm infection on their head skin. And there's a person who had undergone it and died at 85.
