Campy definition: in the style of camp : absurdly exaggerated, artificial, or affected in a usually humorous way. kitschy definition: considered to be in poor taste because of excessive garishness or sentimentality, but sometimes appreciated in an ironic or knowing way.
@OrigamiMarie3 жыл бұрын
I would add to camp: performed in an absolutely genuine way. It's ridiculous, over the top, and possibly a little immature, but the person who's doing it thinks (or acts like they think) they are all that.

"Camp" is a term with a lot of background, and I'm not going to be able to do it justice in a couple sentences, but basically it's a way of presenting (either yourself or something you make) that embraces the extravagant and exaggerated. It's got strong connections to the LGBT community, in no small part because when a group historically considered strange and different, it's comforting to be able to embrace the strangeness and 'differentness' and wear it proudly. That being said, camp is fun, and anyone can enjoy it! Hope that helps a little Katie 😊

I would describe Camp in two ways : Camp for Camp's Sake, and Failed Seriousness. Camp for Camp's Sake is like the movie Mars Attacks! It knows its being tongue - in - cheek, puts its shoulder into it, and rolls with it. I love this movie. Camp as Failed Seriousness is like Manos : The Hand of Fate. It was trying for Citizen Kane but Kool-aid Man'd through the fourth wall and gave us one of the best MST3K episodes. I also love this movie.

You should do a "favorite'' theme for a soap collection where you used your favorite colors, smells, glitters, methods, etc. to make the different soaps of the collection but it would also be kinda a challenge because you would be completely honest with your choices so you would have to try and pair you favs together to make an appealing soap.
@creepycutiecrafty3 жыл бұрын
Don't know if it's the same in the US, but here in the UK, "campy" means like big personality and super-loud - almost like musical theatre embodied in a person. Showy and exciting, and fun to be a part of. That is a just a miracle soap. It's so beautiful. I just wish I could smell it!
@minecraftlover160003 жыл бұрын
Camp is a term that I believe was originally created & used by the Drag Queen community to describe fashionable looks that were over the top with a twist of fun, whimsical flair. A good example would be Drag Queen Manila Luzon in her Big Bird look/outfit.
@SaltySeaWitch33 жыл бұрын
it predates drag queens. The first English definition of the term, which appeared in a 1909 edition of the Oxford English Dictionary, conformed to popular, contemporary notions of camp: “ostentatious, exaggerated, affected, theatrical; effeminate or homosexual; pertaining to, characteristic of, homosexuals…”

Hi Katie! I've been binge-watching your videos again, so thanks for the entertainment LOL. I was just wondering about your imbed divider though - your family makes those for you, don't they? The last video I watched it was made out of PVC. Have you considered asking them to make you one that will fit HUGGING the top of the big mold instead of sitting on top of it? They would keep the same measurements for the width of the wires, but the wires would end up being closer to the soap itself. It would help you quickly fit the dividers onto the mold while also letting you reach the soap easier, which means easier placement and less accidentally dropping your imbeds.

Campy and camp are when someone or something is extra or extreme in an extravagant way or they are a combination of over the top and flamboyant and as extra as possible and so over the top that it can end up being too much and push the boundaries of good taste. But it has a great childlike freedom to it, an innocence aspect of a deer caught in the headlights kind of vibe. So innocently extreme and as over the top without boundaries.

Camp/Campiness is a caricature. It kind of tows the line between glamour and tackiness and sees how far it can take it. And there’s also an “almost clowny” performance aspect. Think of the looks Marie Antoinette and the French court would wear. They were peak glamour and elegance, yet they were basically painted up to look like clowns and could barely sit, move, or walk through doorways. It was a performance as much as it was a dress. That is camp

Camp has its origins in the French Roccoco era and specifically the palace of Versaille. In the 1960s Camp started to take off in New York due to the rise of the gay movement, and Susans Sontag's book, Notes on "Camp". Many homosexuals started experimenting with fashion to create a sense of group solidarity and belonging in the safety of their homes. In the '70s and 80's it then started to move across the country, and more gay people started to experiment with campy outfits out in public. Popularized by many drag queens in the '90s, it is still popular today with the gay community and many young LGBTQ + members. Camp is stated to be more of a mindset of embracing the outlandish. This involves both actual clothing and performance art. Counter-cultural dress, mixing genderized clothing pieces, excessive or garish statement pieces are examples of this style.

some other youtubers use a discord server to send out notifications to their viewers, that really helped me to not "forget" about them because i get a message on my laptop reliably whenever they upload a video however, a discord server is kinda time consuming to manage, but it would also be really fun i think! people could interchage about their experieces with soap and the commuity could chat about your latest videos even better than over the youtube comments. you could also team up with other soap creators on youtube to help you manage a server. oooh a soap discord would be so much fun!
