Hoo boy, I can relate. I used to be a ghostwriter, and as it turns out, when you're contractually obligated to write like 5,000 words a day for other people, the idea of then also writing your own ideas afterward becomes exhausting. And I like this format of video! For people who have been subscribed for a while and so more or less know what you're doing at each step, it's kind of got a vibe like we're just chilling on the other side of the table with you and shooting the breeze while you work.

I am in awe of how much you accomplished and built in your business and personal life in such a short time. Thank you for giving as much of yourself as you do to the people like myself that you will never meet face to face but admire and know how much work you invest in your company and platform to allow us to learn from you and be free to create.Side note: your white sage/lavender candle is the absolute best.

My sister-in-law, a doctor, has focused her published work on physician burnout in the past ten years and has made a bit of a name for herself in that regard. It was the first time I ever had a chance to understand burnout since I've never really felt that but it is so real for many people. I came closer to it than I ever have during the pandemic but happily a job change has recharged me. There is a growing body of work on the subject and I love that it is getting so much attention. It's a big deal! I'm so glad you were able to move past it, because I only found you about a year ago and bought my first bars for Christmas and I so look forward to more!

Any time you turn a love into a job, you face hitting the wall of burnout. I have experienced it as a musician, and also as a tour guide/story teller. I also found that focusing on other creative outlets DID help! Sometimes we just have to stop ourselves from giving in to the "grind", and remind ourselves WHY we do things. If it comes back to you, then you can keep going with it, albeit with some changes. If you simply can't... then you simply can't. Then it's time to explore new opportunities. It's OK to be "done". But sometimes people forget that, and confuse done with failure. It makes them feel forced to continue... which is counterproductive. So, again, for those feeling burnout... it is OK to be done. I'm glad you rekindled your passion. I love your soaps, your videos, etc... but take care of YOURSELF first. ❤️

Another beautiful soap! The oceany green and white look so refreshing. I understand the creative burnout. I get there, too. My youngest son (15 years old) is very talented and gets artistic block, too. I keep encouraging him to just step away from the project and do something else, anything else, for a while until he is ready to go back to what he loves. So now he is taking a break from drawing and painting and teaching himself piano! You are lucky to have so many people around you that you can trust to take your inspiration and instruction and run with it and have it all come together.

Hey Katie! I'm Brazilian so sorry for my bad English hahahah I found your channel at the beginning of the last year and I immediately got addicted to it even tho I don't make soap or anything like this I usually don't comment a lot in videos but I wanted to share my experience with burnout... I have been dancing my whole life (since I was 4 and nowadays I'm 16 yo) but in 2020 I started to get exhausted from it, I complained when I had to go to the classes, to take measurements for the figurines, etc. This also must be because my ex-best friend was being toxic with me so my confidence went down but it was mostly because I couldn't pull off dancing anymore Then I stopped and the pandemic started, with it I gave up even more lol... In general, I kept these 2 years without dancing so it was very good because I got more relaxed about it and I could have a break from it These last months I started having doubts about my decision and I started to miss dancing so I decided to start doing classes again and I'm so happy! This break gave me some time to think and "rest" which made me return totally invigorated So if I have any advice for someone who is passing through the same situation is: give a break for yourself, maybe it will clarify if the best is to return to doing this thing or just stop it :)

Felt compelled to comment… I used to LOVE crafting. I haven’t for years, my heart just wasn’t in it. But recently, I just sat myself down and told myself to get to it. I’m now relearning a lot of the crafts I used to do, and I’m giving myself the grace to make mistakes. I don’t make soap, and maybe someday I’ll add my own scrapey-scrapey to my bag of tricks, I find the knowledge enlightening, which is what brought me to this channel. BUT! I put your channel on when I’m crafting or when I’m feeling low, because, if I’m being honest, it’s my one thing I do for myself. Your spirit is so bright, it’s contagious. Thank you for being there. You’re appreciated.

I totally agree with using other crafts as a way to reinspire you in your main craft. Sometimes working in a different medium soothes that frustrated part of your brain. Plus I've found that I'm fresher in the craft I was burnt out on, using ideas and inspiration from other areas. So glad you got over the creative block! One tip I would say: always make sure you have at least one creative outlet that is not monetized. You'll need something to lean on that doesn't have the pressure of profitability. Glad you're feeling better! :)

We all go through ups, downs, phases, etc. Life is never a stand-still. We're always moving in one direction or the other and that can require us to manually pump the breaks and re-evaluate to ensure that we are moving in the direct that is right for us. Aww I thought something was a little different too, and I’m really glad you talked about this. I haven’t been in the business as long as you, but I experience burn out too and it almost stops me dead in my tracks. I just enjoy and want to make soap, but everyone is pretty demanding in telling me what they want me to make or think I should make. Then how I need to market it and sell it. That completely deflates me I end up doing nothing and that gets me nowhere but feeling frustrated and sad. To pick myself back up, I go out to my shop and make soap and fall back in love with it. It’s easy to get burned out when you feel like everyone’s demands are more important than your own mental health. We just gotta guard ourselves and continue doing what we love and are inspired to do. Saying a little prayer for you today. ♥️

The timing of this video is perfect. My burnout resulted in, amongst other bad things, unemployment. As I dove back into the world of job hunting I felt more and more self conscious and stressed. Can I face job interviews? Will I find a job soon? How will I keep that job? Trying to stay active and busy and spending time searching the web, works until it doesn’t. Of course I’m not an independent worker or crafter and honestly, I don’t know how the added pressure of that would affect my tired mind. So I’m very impressed and even inspired by Kathy’s experience. Not giving up is the most important I think. When in doubt, get help. That’s my two cents. Stay safe. ❤️

Woof. This. Hahaha something I think a lot of creatives struggle with is “what do I do now that I’m no longer enjoying the thing that used to give me joy?!” Hahh thanks for this hang out chit chat!! Always love hearing your perspective!🤍

Dear Katie I am a fan all the way in the middle east who ABSOLUTELY LOVESS your content I got into the world of soap making because of u and I enjoyed it ever since But even when my interests shifted I found so much comfort in watching u. What i got more than anything by watching your channel is having u as a friend. I really don’t know how to explain it without sounding weird, but I feel like I got to have this connection with u as a friend and would just watch the videos to see how your doing or listen to a friend rant. I love and support you soo much and I just wanted to let u know

Thank you so much Katie! All good advice, very much specific to you but at the same time very adaptable for everyone’s style. Don’t know who’ll read this but I wanna stress (and thanks for bringing it up): don’t be shy to ask for help! I overwhelm easily and at the same time I wanna do it all. I have to remind myself there are other people who can help me get through the day. And also! Inspiration doesn’t have to be forced - doing other things helps so much, it takes your mind off your block and yet you’re still creating.

I feel this. I have been experiencing burnout for several months. Right after i pulled all of the wallpaper down and painted all the rooms in my house it just hit me. I just recently started crochetting again. I'm just making dishcloths and washcloths. They're quick and they make me happy. What I'm going to do with all of them... i really don't know. Gifts or donate them to places. Already gave like 6 to my step mom. I need to get out into my food garden and work on that, but i just don't want to. In lieu of crafting so much, I'm spending more time with my senior animals and really cherishing the time i have left with them.

Katie, thank you so much for sharing your experiences with burnout. I think the perception is that burnout always gets so bad that you have to blow up your life to get through it. It’s so important to talk about the ways to work through & resolve burnout before it gets to health crisis levels. (Also, that soap is gorgeous. I love the colors!)
@skerendreamera2 жыл бұрын
I think I loved this soap way more than I ever thought I would when I saw the colors initially. Also, I'm happy to hear about your personal trials with creativity and hope you continue sharing.

I don't comment often but I just wanted to say I love this format where you are talking about a completely different aspect of soap and creativity. I've noticed the videos you have made that I enjoy the most usually have the rambling conversation that adds to the video but isn't directly about the soap you are currently creating at the time. Would definitely be interested in hearing more 'ramble videos'.

It was nice just hearing you talk about you and your business. Also, I love that soap design!

The biggest reason I watch your content is YOU and the empathy I feel when I watch your videos. I can't speak for everyone but I watch your channel over others because of your personality and interests. Your soap designs are gorgeous but you could honestly make 40 bars that use the same colors and I'd probably just relate thinking how much I love that color too. I'm super glad you took the time/actions needed to recover from your burnout but I hope, if it ever happens again, that you can press on knowing I'd still watch even if you made nothing but plain tan soap for 10 videos in a row. Also, I LOVED this concept of listening to you rant while you made the soap. I'd love more stories...even if they feel like they're about nothing!

Katie, as a mother and business partner, I can relate to a lot of what you are saying. I am blessed to work from home so I can homeschool and take care of my children, but the burn out is REAL. You're doing a great job and I'm always inspired and impressed with your business savvy mixed with your creative nature. I love the creative side but always get overwhelmed by the business side of things. 😬 Best of luck and God bless you! P.S. I love your chatty videos! I also love listening to you teach about soap!

This is so sweet. I don't think you could ever disappoint us. I know creative process is something and burn out is very real. I actually wanted to get into crafts like soap making because I'm usually a digital artist. I made the same type of art for almost eight years. Basically making designs for other people. Near the end of it I barely could scrap out one per month and then years went by with no inspiration. I haven't drawn one of those in a while but decided to do some art for myself the past week. It's taking a while to complete but it has inspired me to keep going. I just hope that candle burns a bit longer this time. Keep up the great work and your a huge inspirational figure to me with your work and attitude. Just love it.

katie, your back!!!!! I could tell something was bothering you last year and even a little into this year, but this episode is the creative and informative and awesome Katie. I was just saying yesterday that I've lost my creative mojo. I haven't quilted, crocheted, knitted, cross stitched in over a year. do another episode like this, I want to get my creative mojo back. 🥰

I retired from being a Massage Therapist after 12 years. People tried to talk me out of it but I had been done for awhile. Best decision I ever made. I work retail now and I like my job, gives me what need and I'm not complaining. :)

I have been watching you for a while now. I must say that you are very inspiring. You keep things down to earth and are super energetic. You have buried my creativity and desire to create myself. This weekend I begin my journey in hot processed soaping in part to watching you here. I look up to you as a soaper and love all of the things you talk about in your videos. I love your transparency in what you do and the struggles you have both in business and your personal life. You are amazing and I look forward to watching your content for years to come! Thank you for being you!!!

I have gone through spurts of burn out too! It is usually in the form of not being motivated. Once I begin again, I feel like, God I love this! I find this especially true for me after a sickness. I also work 60 hours a week, and take care of my small farm(that might explain my occasional burn out). I am always saying I just want to make the soap! All the other things are tedious. Photographing, packaging, website updates. Ugh! Thank you for sharing your struggle! I always appreciate your down to earth realness.

Thank you so much for putting this video together, I'm a work at home artist and been managing my own little business for about 2 years, these past months have been really painfull due to burnout and it is great to know I'm not alone and that other creatives can find a way to do what they love

I remember you pulling back some and certainly understood. Worried that some statistic was making you concerned viewers might be disappointed. I have been watching you videos routinely often with my now 4 & 6 year old granddaughters We’ve💗all your videos never get tired, anxious await each new one. My daughter in law ordered me one of your collection. It’s hard to make viedos I have made some horrible ones and a few TicTocs of soaps I learned many techniques from you. Plz be happy and know you are an inspiration, so honest and relatable. The BEST # 1 soaper. I am 68 starting late but have ideas to share far from profitable. Be blessed.

It's incredibly inspiring to see how you're always positive and strong even when you go through things like this. Everyone experiences burnout, and a year of it would really suck, but you pushed through it and that's awesome. It's also great that you have a husband who supported you through the rough patch, I can't tell you how much I lean on my own husband when things are tough.
