A week full of amazing highs and serious lows, I had my design stolen! This week started on such a high with launching my Patreon and having lots of lovely, lovely people join to which I am so grateful!
Unfortunately the week quickly shifted when I found out my most popular pin is being sold in multiple platforms like SHEIN, TEMU and ALIEXPRESS!
I know this is so common for artists and it honestly breaks my heart! I'm hoping I can get this sorted quietly via emails but I will let you know if I need help!

Sometimes it’s the manufacturers, they will steal the designs mass produce them and sell them to places like Temu, SHEIN and other cheap websites. So maybe consider changing manufacturing

The amount of people selling stolen artwork on Etsy makes me sick. Pretty sure there's shops on there selling AI art on merchandise too. Non-artists don't respect artists, but they're happy to use our skills and labor to make themselves money. Disgusting people. I hope you can get this resolved.

Temu and other sellers like that just make me so angry, because they definitely steal designs from creators and way too many people fall for the cheap prices, but when something is so cheap, you just know something is off. I’m sorry it happened to your wonderful pin as well.

It's so sad isn't it and just incredibly lazy too! If they have the facilities to get pins made then why don't they just make their own designs 😅 I totally understand why some people use these sites but I just wish there was more education around this kind of thing!! Thank you so much xx

Unfortunately some people who lack creativity like to make money off the back of artists like you and don’t have the decency to credit them. On the plus side (if there is one), it is a testament to your talent. These people only replicate designs that they know will sell well, so you could take it as both a lesson and a compliment. As you know, their cheap knockoffs will never compare to the original 🥰

I don't own shop or anything myself but I remember watching one other artist youtuber talk about stolen designs and they said that you should always watermark your pictures, it doesn't mean that the design will not be stolen but it makes it more difficult. Also never ever order anything from Temu, AliBaba or companies like that, this is not first time they have stolen designs and not the last one!

It's a horrible feeling but it is the cost of doing business with many Chinese factories. Designing for the mass market years ago before Ali Express or other direct ways to use these services existed, we kind of accepted that the factories were producing very expensive tooling to make our items, not charging us in full for that tooling - so that we could sell cost effective items, but were then recouping the cost of that by selling unorthorised copies in other markets, using that same tooling, to recoup their costs. Disney, and huge corporations like them, spend a lot of time and money trying to shut down this practice as it hugely eats into their profits, but they are only ever partly successful. Manufacturing is an expensive process unless you are doing it in huge bulk, so we should always be suspicious of factories that offer short runs or mixed designs. If you decide the prices and profit margins are too good to ignore, then you have to make peace with the fact that your designs will be mass produced and sold off for cheap until costs are recouped. Sad but true.

oh my goodness, I'm so sorry you have to deal with people stealing your art. I know Katnipp had it done years back and I believe if my memory serves me correctly, she nipped it in the bud by sending them a cease and desist letter. Save all your original sketches and proofs that confirm that you made the design of the pin. This will help if you consider to hire a lawyer. Next time you think that some of your art could be stolen, consider to formally copyright the design before putting it out there. So if this happens again , this will allow you to get statutory fees , covered.

Exactly WHY I quit buying on Temu - I noticed/figured out artists were getting ripped off when I found Tarot cards on there for fractions of the price, ordered a deck, the quality was crap and there was no guidebook. 🤬🤬🤬

I’m sorry that happened. Same thing has happened to me multiple time! Its infuriating. I have successfully gotten them taken down on Etsy but the overseas companies do not care. I had an entire fb group go to the comments and flood it. Crickets is all we heard. I even have my exact photos with my shop name in them. Its insane. I am really sorry. Good luck!

Hey Beautiful, unless you copyright/trademarked you are not protected at all... an artist had the image his painting stolen. How did he find out? He was in Walmart Shopping and saw his image on blankets... he did the research, tracked down who was responsible, even contacted Walmart to request they stop selling the fleece blankets with the image of his painting on it. Walmart did not stop, they also informed him they were not the ones who manufactured the blanket. A company out of China was. I watched his yt video explaining what happened to him... Many many artists have seen their images or products being stolen and mass production of that stolen art... their art being reproduced on coffee cups, calendars, clothes, fabrics, etc and like your pin the item itself. Shein, Temu and other such online shopping outlets are famous for doing this to many artists... many many reports and stories just like yours... Copyright and trademark is the only way you can prevent this from happening... It is what Disney has done. As an art teacher, I am legally not allowed to teach a child to even draw Mickey Mouse. A woman made a crocheted Yoda, sold it on Etsy. Her store was shut down. It is sad today we artist have to even worry about this kind of thing... yet, its the dark side high risk we take if we post an image of our art any where online... watermarks do not prevent this.... legal copyright and trademarks is the only protection. AND... if you do not have a lawyer, cannot afford a lawyer... fighting a large company due to copyright and trademark violations is a losing battle... however, is it possible if enough of the creators/artists get together and file a class action lawsuit as a group this might end? Or if enough of the creators/artists contact large media outlets such as 60 minutes, 20/20 just maybe there is a way for this to get stopped? I do not know as I am not a legal expert... the only thing I know for sure is to copyright, trademark in order to prevent and take legal action when the art is stolen... my heart goes out to you.

I think the small backer card is cute! Do you use Bluetooth with your cricket? Someone else I watch says that the Bluetooth causes the cuts not to work sometimes so she has to use the cord to connect it.

I hope you have some recourse with Etsy at least. The last time I read Etsy T&Cs it was for handcrafted (or designed) goods and craft supplies. If someone has bought the stolen design pins wholesale and selling them on Etsy then hopefully Etsy see that as a breach as well. Best of luck to you.

That is absolutely appalling! It may be worth contacting the webites and telling them about it, they can remove the sellers from their website or give them a warning, it's definitely worth a try. The websites don't know about it unless you notify them of such behaviour. Just the other day I was browsing my KZbin recommendations and saw my own artwork.......except it wasn't mine! Someone had watched one of my videos and copied my artwork exactly. My painting was just a quick and simple little piece but they had copied every detail and then uploaded it as their own tutorial. I was quite disappointed that someone would actually do that, and pass it off as their own 'how to' video, when it was my video that they were just reproducing. Of course I want viewers to have a go at painting the artwork I do, as that's the whole point in making a tutorial, but to then upload it as their own tutorial......that's a big NO NO! I wish you all the best with your business, you obviously put a lot of time and effort and thought into making your lovely pieces.

Im so sorry this happened to you. Just watch where you send ur designs to, some of them resell the designs if they don’t have a copyright also try to micro multi watermark your pics. Is a bit harder to remove several mini watermarks than just one

Sorry to hear about the stolen pin and art. It’s terrible how people will take advantage of small business artists. They know there’s nothing to be done about it unless the small business artist has licenses and trademarks which are terribly expensive to get. There’s a story out of Canada where a small apparel business had designed their signature logo that’s beautiful and Walmart of all people stole the design and only changed one tiny of the design. And of course they aren’t going to stop selling the designed shirts because they know that the small business would never afford the legal costs in court. It’s crazy a billion dollar corporation taking advantage of a small business.

I watched another lady that had her art stolen and made into shirts and blankets etc. I does becoming worrying that somebody is selling your own product for cheaper than you sell them after you spent so much time making them. I am an artist and i hope they dont start that with me or they will be in a lot of trouble. The pin you made is lovely. So I do have a question for you. I am also a fellow artist and plan on launching my second kickstarter… I was considering pins but you are the 2nd artist I came across that had their artwork stolen. I had some digital files stolen on Etsy and got annoyed by all the copyright issues so I left the platform. If you don’t mind sharing where do you send your artwork to? What company is sharing your files. I am just asking to avoid issues like this. I don’t want to send them to the same place. Your artwork is so adorable though.

Unfortunately this is the issue as I have no idea where the design has been stolen from! Ot is very easy for someone to trace over images and then get the design made. If I knew where it came from I would for sure tell you but I have no clue 😅💛 Please don't let this put you off making things you love. Of course this isn't ideal but it won't necessarily happen to you, we can't let the thieves win 💛

Like, excuse me, I'm the one that has spent countless hours studying art since I was 4, and I went to a high-end art institute. Work so hard like we all do only have someone to go oh I like this mine then turns around to sell it as there's.

Hey, this is so exciting!! Good luck with your new adventure 🥰 I am currently using the Canon Megatank G6050 which is similar to the Epson Eco Tanks :) if you are wanting to save on ink then I would definitely recommend a mega/eco tank. I have used the Epson Et2650 (I think it was) and that lasted me about 4 years and only had to refill the ink once 🥰 I'm not sure what the better printers are now but you should be able to find a good newer base model on somewhere like currys (if you are in the UK) I hope that helps!

All those brands i think are from china, and i know one company got shut down becaue they stole artworks and artists sued the company by the law that was made in china ro fight money laundery in china. That's how they got it down. My advice is to reachout to artists and tell them about this and make them check their works how you did, and ask them to share your story and talk about it, even if you can't sue those companies at least you can get support from them and their fans as well. Are you sure about lawyer? If you have proofs of being the creator, lawyers might work on percentage. And those are large sellers, it might be worth trying. Don’t give up easily.

The issue (6 minutes into your video) small business owners have become big business. There are more naive people who are very creative but not knowledgeable about treachery. A few years ago, I was so excited to start a business and as you know it is the content that grows the following in social media. However, there were others that already had a large following. My designs were displayed and I had excellent comments but the ones that had a larger following stole some of my designs and displayed them as their own. What is a small business owner to do? And who is going to believe you when you have 169 subscribers and the one who stole your design has 370k? Answer: get you original designs, including OC’s copyrighted. That way when having the complaint can be followed by a lawsuit. It’s ridiculous but apparently necessary.

Its a foreign country that stealing the designs, and there is no way you can go after them. The quality is bad and never looks like the picture. You should put a watermark over your pictures so no one can copy them. There are apps that are economical that you can buy. I will get back to you with the name of one. I have one.

The issue isn't them buying the artwork, it's the people that have stolen the design from someone else to make money! Often the buyers of the pins are completely unaware, that's the bit that isn't right :)

@@DelliesDesigns ohh I see what you meant, I was thinking of someone selling a Calvin Klein bag or something, not pretending to BE him. I'm pretty sure most of the items on those sites are stolen designs. They're based in China so even if you had lawyers there isn't much you can do. The quality is usually low and your followers will know it's not authentic so just keep creating .🖌️
