In the 90’s I went it a local music store in Malmö, Sweden, to buy a Marshall. The shopkeeper insisted that I try a Laney before deciding for the Marshall. I thought it was not useful because I wanted a Marshall. But after a while a gave in a brought it into the small test room. 20 minutes I bought the Laney LC30. Laney is just so good.

@@babydaddy8224 I noticed a massive difference. Now 10's and 12's are also a different situation. The three biggest things I noticed were tighter low end and a overall Slightly smoother highs and a overall reduction in volume. Great demo of a great amp Johan, thanks. I was fortunate enough to acquire the 1X12 model in pristine condition a couple of years ago. I’ve treasured it ever since. I live quite near to the Laney facility in Halesowen here in the UK. Decided to take it in for a service. They put a more modern power transformer in it as well as an anti-hum control in the back. Has made an already brilliant amplifier slightly more ‘modern’ without altering the sound. It’s the only valve amp which I own. And it’s the only one which I’m likely to need. Thanks again.

It’s a great amp with a serious design flaw (at least in the 112 version). Tubes are WAY too close to the speaker magnet. I had one and modded the cabinet to create some distance. Great sounds nonetheless. I love Laney amps.
@AaronOwenSmith9 ай бұрын
Im in the same boat, what did you do to the cabinet to get more room?
@craigmadey19389 ай бұрын
@@AaronOwenSmith I unscrewed the chassis and was able to move it back to the edge of the cabinet, carefully lining up/re-drilling. It bought me about an inch of space. I did not have the stock speaker, either. If I recall, I checked speaker depth specs and I think I settled on a creamback…. It’s been a few years, so that detail is foggy.
@AaronOwenSmith9 ай бұрын
@@craigmadey1938 Thanks for the reply, I've wanted to change speaker for years, i have the Seventy 80 i think. I didn't know this was possible, so to be clear, does this move the the control section of the amp, or were you able to move just the valve section of the chassis? On another note, i was looking yesterday at Jensen Alnico P12Q with the square magnet, they have a large depth, but the circumference is smaller then the base of the speaker, at the right angle, this i thought might actually pass underneath the existing valve setup. I need to measure that but my amp is in storage at the moment. Just on the Tonex these days.
@craigmadey19389 ай бұрын
@@AaronOwenSmith As I think about it, it’s “all coming back” :-). There was a piece of trim along the back of the chassis - I removed that. I slid the whole chassis out far enough to there was no gap between the tone controls and the cabinet (yes, the whole assembly slid out - unless you get into some serious engineering, no way to move just the tubes). A speaker with an Alnico magnet could be a great option, too - I could be wrong, but they usually have covers on the magnet (which is generally smaller than ceramic magnets) and with this cover, I think there is a lot less “pull” that could affect the tubes. At one point I was thinking of trying my hand at cabinetry and building a whole new enclosure. This worked good enough…. As with gear, I moved on. Still with Laney, but I couldn’t pass up on the Supergroup LA Supermod…. With a master volume, I can keep the tinnitus at bay…
