In all honesty trying to compare amps by comparing one setting on each amp doesn't show much at all. In this video it appears the DSL gain structure he is using is apparently the green side of the clean channel and I imagine he is doing that to try and sound like the Origin, in order to have some kind of comparison. On the DSL, just by changing to the red side of the clean channel with the gain at 6-7 the gain starts to move past what the origin can produce, and in my opinion the DSL now starts to sounds really good especially if you turn the bass/middle/treble knobs all to 3 and that is just the gain on the clean channel, there are two more gain channels available beyond that. To summarize if you like 1960's gain and you never want more than 60's gain, then the Origin will work. if you like gain from 1960 all the way up to today and want master volume, channel switching, and reverb then get the DSL.

Les Paul into Marshall and Strat into Hiwatt. Magical.

The worst mistake I´ve ever done was buying this HW 1974.. being warned about the transformers failures.. I still bought it. Silly me :) - the output tranny gave up the ghost some 2 months in. But there´s more: I made the same mistake again.. I bought crazy expensive "Marshall HW" Bluesbreaker 1962 combo.. the 50 kg fridge :)) Of course... the output trannie started humming like crazy.. fool me twice ;) NEVER, EVER buy this overpriced "handwired" crap from Marshall... they use the cheapest crap they can source.. I got it right in the end - early JTM45 6L6 replica by Mike Clark, a 1968 50w smallbox by RJ Smith, and a 1971 metal panel 1987 by Ladner Amps. Stellar amps, no corners cut, alu chassis, and quality transformers by Chris Merren.. NOS coupling caps which make such a huge difference.. Marshall fcks you sideways :) dont be stupid ... it became just a name, milking customers .. no substance anymore

Hiwatts not metal? I seem to recall Exodus's first album was a Hiwatt boosted with a Boss SD-1... which, to be fair, is a method that can make many non-"metal" amps quite metal.
@JohanSegebornКүн бұрын
Any amp is metal through a Marshall Celestion cab. The purpose of this video was to show that through these Pulsonic Fane speakers you get Marshall style tones without metal vibes which is rare.

Should regular folks with vintage amps play them this loud or will we destroy the speakers? '64 6g6b with Oxfords here.
@JohanSegebornКүн бұрын
If you’re concerned about the speakers you can use an attenuator.
@RhythmiconsКүн бұрын
@@JohanSegeborn I read that attenuators degrade the sound and wear out the tubes prematurely. What do you think? I can't figure out which way to go. Is there a small soundproof chamber where folks can drive their amps without getting the cops called?
@SlavJerryКүн бұрын
marshall sounds more colored by speakers while hiwatt sounds pretty transparent, I wonder how they would sound on the same cab though

What surprised me the most (besides those fane speakers) was how the humbucker guitar into the hiwatt sounded close to the tele into a marshall. Not identical, obviously, but close enough for some applications

Grüß Gott from Germany Johan! I really like this setup, this has just great Tone-Coloration. What I also would like to hear for comparision, is a Marshall Origin 50C with a Celestion Hempback 50 Watter against the Mojotone British Vintage 60 Watter. Because many Players said, that the Hemp-Cone speakers sort of tame the high end and fizzieness of the Amps. Really want to hear your opinion on this topic! All in all amazing Video!

Pre amp gain is what ost people use since gain from the power section involved higher volumes. The best is when you can combine the two.
