Using ultra-short pencils became a competition in my grade school class. The winner's pencil was basically just enough wood to hold the lead to the eraser, with the help of the metal bit, but crimped way down.

I broke the electric pencil sharpener in my science class one year by shoving a pencil into it when it was already jammed and needed to be emptied LOL. It was in front of the whole class too (the sharpener was at the front of the room, and I went up there during a test when everything was quiet so everyone was already looking at me. Go figure)
