I always tell my husband, they don't want to sting you! It's the last thing they want to do, bc it means they will die, so calm down, don't swat at them, and just project calmness to them. I know that is hard to do if you have a phobia tho :(

@@annebruecks7381 Bees don't die when they sting. It just tends to happen when they sting us because our skin is way tougher than what their stinger is designed for. So when they try to pull it out they basically rip themselves in half.

My husband feeds the squirrels so he filled up a bird bath so they could drink. Next thing we knew it was full of our neighbors bees. I didn’t know bees needed water. I thought they got everything they needed from flowers. We’ve been having a drought so I’ve been filling the bird bath about 3 times a day. Sometimes the bees chase the squirrels away. I have fallen head over heels in love with them! I love your channel so much. I love that you don’t wear a big beekeeper’s suit. Everyone else on KZbin seems to be terrified of their own bees, but you approach strange bees that you don’t know with no protective clothing. Thanks 😊

As you can see in all of the shots of the hive and comb, especially the first one where I see brood comb immediately…these bees had barely any honey. And the comb tore when I was prying the lid open, which is kind of the point of prying the lid in the first place. You can see the way they were attaching the comb to the lid and also the upper edge of the box, making it impossible to pull up the lid without breaking the comb in this case.

I did my first rescue a few months ago. Since I had to cut into a metal gas tank, I wore a suit the first day. I was basically in a 4 hour squat and couldn't hardly move the next day. The neighbor called and said there were thousands of bees back in the tank. I didn't see much aggression the first day so went back in a t-shirt and jeans and just sat down next to the tank with my travel hive. Scooped for several more hours and never had a problem.. well, other than trying to get my fat butt off of the ground afterwards. I almost never wear gloves, even when suited up but it was kind of enthralling how they tolerated my scooping and settled on my shoulders and in my beard. Learned a lot but I wouldn't have attempted an unprotected rescue without your channel's example and tutelage.

Isn't it actually good that those little spaces exist? It means the area has a free bee hive without anyone having to care for it. (Until someone needs to access that space). Maybe just setup a place here and there for beehives and let them just bee? (Pun intended) Maybe the bees would not need to be "saved", if we just had those locations made for them. Well, I heard that indoor cats live on average two to three times longer than free roaming cats - so maybe the bees enjoy being "kept"; but I think there might be a case to be made, that having free roaming bees might be important for biodiversity or something like that. Edit: lol - I'm starting to like those bee puns: let them bee together; let them bee free, Johnny bee good!

Thank you for supporting me and the bees by watching! Starting in January of this year, all of my removal services are now donation based and a donation is NEVER required. This has been a dream since I first started doing bee removals and it was made possible because of so many people like you following and watching here and on TikTok, so thank you so much! More on why offering free services is important for people and bees...I don't think anyone should have to make a decision about their safety and wellness or the safety and wellness of bees due to money. Bee removal services can range from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand, and not everyone is prepared for the unplanned expense of having bees move in to their property, so unfortunately that means they sometimes take matters into their own hands or hire an exterminator for less.

If any eggs are left in any amount of comb they likely will try to create a queen from that and rebuild if they don't just absocnd. Absconding is when they abandon their home and they find a new one. They will forage for nectar and pollen so when they find another hive (by pheromones probably) they can offer these as gifts and hope to be accepted into that colony.

Aww, they're cute. Scooping bees looks like the fun & relaxing part. I imagine they're pretty warm too? I suspect bees and wasps with their olfactory sensitivity could very well know a person's attitude from the chemicals they give off. Lot of the people who complain about being harassed by stinging insects seem to be the ones who never liked them to begin with. Who knows, they can probably recognize someone who genuinely respects and loves them.

I treat mine with respect and try my hardest not to injure even one. The only time I get stung is when I grab something without looking for a bee on it and get stung on a finger. I rarely wear an outfit because they’re very hot and gloves are very clumsy compared to bare hands. I only use smoke sparingly. Until my method doesn’t work I’ll keep doing it.
