@@n0pe405 That impossible today unless you've tried to kill someone... By law in USA, every dead body has to be embalmed. To do that, they cut the main vein in the neck, run fluid through that vein and flush the system out of blood and replace is with another fluid that prolongs the decaying process. Later they remove the organs unless told not to do it. If your heartbeat doesnt move after 10-20mins, your brain is dead and even if they get the heart beating, you become a unable to move, talk, or anything. Brain starts dying after 5mins of no blood flow. My grandpa died like that. Heart attack and no blood flow for 6min. They got the heart beating but the brain was dead. He was living off machines to feed him and keep his body alive for 2 months with no movement at all or response before we pulled the plug.

So during the time of big Vampire hunting, they dug up a lot of graves, which when opened, the bodies had changed how they laid in the coffin, and there was signs of them trying to claw themselves out, before passing away again. So after the whole Vampire craze, graven that got dug up, to be put into other places, or for new bodies to be dug down in the place, while the old body got cremated, they again noticed that people had been alive in these coffins. Cause; Many people got diagnosed as Dead, because Doctors could not hear the heartbeat, or feel the pulse of the person, so people in many cases got buried alive. So a precaution was the Burial Bells, these bells had a small rope tied to them, and the other end, was tied to a person's foot or toe, so when they started moving, it would pull the rope, and start the bell ringing. It would send the gravediggers to start digging up the person. Today, our medical equipment is good enough to detect the tiniest of heartbeats, so the chance of an alive burial has to be either on purpose, of a miracle of a chance to happen. Well unlucky for the person being buried.

I don't know if it's so much that as it is with embalming they replace your blood with formaldehyde so if you weren't dead before, you're definitely dead when they bury you.

This is honestly one of the things that I have to deal with as a possibility where I work because I work in an underground salt mine and I am also on the Mine rescue team which means if anyone gets trapped underground I am one of the first responders for them, But in the back of my mind when I am going through the Mine that is one of the fears that are in my head is if this all came down around me what would I do? We had a guy come in for one of our safety meetings and he talked about how he was buried alive and was pronounced dead, I cant remember how long but they got him back but he says he was never the same after the fact. Its a crazy thing.

It would be cool if in the chat there were clues relating a story to you, something that might explain why you're buried. When we see the chat with the coffin/bag/ emojis, I thought it was like they accidentally texted him the plan to kill him. It would be cool to see other clues -- things that gave you the story but were designed to distract you and burn battery power. I thought it was going to be he was also a bad guy! and had been betrayed by his partners, so you escape but realize you were a killer all along as well, you threw that victim in there and were buried with them in an act of betrayal by your partner or something.

All those seconds while the game plays the various animations at wasted with your phone on, and it's even worse when you are sat there with phone AND lighter on for as long as you were. Also if you are reading the phone there is no need to have the light on too.

This is an oddly specific horror trope to hate, especially considering how it makes complete sense for this game. It’s later in the day (the texts from Sam said around 9:00pm and didn’t bring up “yesterday”) which is why the phone battery would be pretty low and he’s underground where no reception could ever be had.

The term "Graveyard shift" was thought to originally come from the people who were assigned to watch the graves of the recently deceased and listen for the grave bell to ring. Usually the coffin would not be buried until at least 3 days have passed. It should be noted that this is an American modification of the original term "Gravedigger's watch", which is not to be confused with "Graveyard watch". A Graveyard watch was a term used by mariners for those on the late night to early morning guard shift.

I live in Louisiana and my son and I did a Haunted History Tour in New Orleans. I remember stopping in the middle of an intersection in the French Quarter, near an old pharmacy. The tour guide mentioned the bells when they would pile bodies on top of each other that died from Yellow Fever. Sometimes they were just in a deep coma like state. If they crawled out of the bodies they would ring a bell so that they wouldn't be buried. They were usually hysterical and acting strangely, hence zombies! True or not, it was a great story.

The bell and the coffin reminds me of a story of a town (can't remember where) a long time ago where a bunch of people accidently got buried alive. They didn't have any of the technology we have now. There were a lot of drunks and sometimes someone would get so hammered, they would pass out while stumbling around town. When someone found them, the person looked and felt like they were dead, so they were buried. It wasn't until so many years later when the cemetery needed to be moved and they dug up the coffins only to realize that many of them had scratches inside of them. I can only imagine the guilt the burial people must have had when they realized they accidently killed people.

I used to have Kenophobia which is basically the opposite of claustrophobia. It wouldn’t mean I wouldn’t be afraid of being buried alive cuz obviously that’s a life threatening situation but being buried in a controlled situation would actually be very relaxing to me. A kenophobic version of this game would be waking up suspended on a climbing rope. You can’t see the end of the rope, nor your surroundings. You don’t hear anything in particular nor see or even feel much in the way of air movement. All you know is you have to get out but how far down that rope are you? Will that rope hold indefinitely and even if you make it to the top, with that be the exit? If it isn’t, the only option will be to descend down into the void.

What would go through mind if I heard gravebells would be "Oh shit. Where's the backhoe?" and then "Man this is going to be a lot of paperwork" and then "I hope I don't get fired for digging up a grave." If I wasn't working at a graveyard and just heard the bell? I think I'd be even more panicked because what could I even do? I guess I would call someone, but in the minutes or even hours it would take to get someone, the person inside might be dead by then. I guess I would try and find the exact spot, and contact them via shouting first. make sure they just keep ringing the bell, and go get help. I'm a lot more scared of someone dying because I couldn't help than I am of ghosts ringing bells in a graveyard, tbh.

Pretty sure premature burial doesnt happen anymore in modern countries. Most corpses or supposed to be dead people are prepped for a burial wich takes a couple days. Pretty sure once they're prepped they are 100% dead as i think most bodies are drained of their bloodin order to be buried. Also even if i'm wrong on this all. It usualy takes several days before a burial happens. If ur not really dead, they'll find out at the morgue

To be honest, I hate that I love this game, because of how small the room is. Simply put, I have agoraphobia, and from my childhood until this very day, whenever something bad happened, I don't know why but I always had this dream where I was stranded in some white space in which I couldn't see the end of it, every time I walk into some direction, it's either me getting smaller or the space getting bigger, so I hate open space or barren land, I love small and narrow space, and I really love getting myself lost in some random alley, the idea of sleeping in the coffin is great to me because I love when I can see each end, side, nook, and crannies. I know I'm weird.

Fooster, the 'grave bells' you mentioned is tied to the common saying 'dead ringer.' Today it's a term for someone that looks very like someone else. People would get sick and appear to be dead; they were buried quickly. Sometimes they would recover and wake up in the grave. So a bell was tied to their finger or toe and connected to a bell above ground so when they moved, the bell would ring. This is also where we get the phrase 'saved by the bell.' To say someone is a dead ringer is a sort of eerie take; basically saying that they look exactly like someone who was dead and buried, but could also have been a 'dead ringer' and saved by the bell; so there's 2 of one person.

There was a woman in India? I think recently who was pronounced dead prematurely. She woke up in her own casket at the open casket wake. Scared the shit out of everybody. Sadly, the shock of thinking she'd died and waking up like that ended up damaging her heart and so she died again/anyway.

I feel a sequel to this game could be called "Unburied" where once you crawl out of the coffin you have to escape the concrete maintenance shed which has a welding torch, a clap-on/clap-off ceiling light, and a motion-sensitive porch light that shines through a barred security window. It's clear by the occult symbols painted on the floor and walls that you're a ritual sacrifice, and now you're stuck in an "escape the room" scenario where now multiple black widow spiders, that coffin creature, and something else outside is watching you. The creature proceeds to play clapping and motion games with you, the spiders are covering all the objects you need to escape or discover clues hence you need the welding torch to burn them all so they don't bite you and die from anaphylaxis, OR, slowly weld your way out through any number of potential escape options, but as you do the lack of ventilation causes you to cough because of the gasses hence triggering the lights, as gas power and battery power eventually runs out, but oddly not the porch light...

If you are buried in a normal, cheap coffin, it will most likely be crushed by the weight of the soil.

There was a movie called buried that came out in 2010 and it was about an American truck driver in the middle East being buried alive by terrorists.

If you haven't seen it, Ryan Reynolds was in a movie I believe of hte same name as this game. It is very claustrophobic, and worth a watch.
