Thanks to being on angry medicine because of the flu, you get to enjoy my angered ramblings and frustration about the four and a half months and 1493 miles of Chevy Trax ownership. I bought this thing new and it's been TERRIBLE. Want to know why then you're in the right place! Oh yeah, the absolute worst car I've ever owned (new or used) goes to a 2007 Dodge Caliber SXT Sport 5 speed I bought new back in 2007. GARBAGE. Enjoy!

Happy holidays if you celebrate them! Happy Sunday if you don't! I'm still getting over being sick... went from the flu to losing my voice so it's been fun. Wanted to go over a few quick things with you all since I've been trying to keep up with comments but I may have missed some. YES I know I should have bought a Toyota in the first place... I would have if the Corolla Cross came with a cloth interior, remote start, and heated seats. It does NOT come that way at all whatsoever, which is why I did not buy one. YES I know lemon law is a thing and I fought with GM to get them to take the car back... they told me no. YES I replaced the car with a 2024 Hyundai Kona. YES this video is me rambling and being angry... if you don't like it I'm sorry but there's plenty of other things to watch and if you DO like it and it helped you, then I did my job and helped you not make a mistake since almost every video about these things is reviewers loving it. I look forward to not being sick as a dog and able to make a video about the Kona. I'd also love to tell you guys the story about my 2007 Dodge Caliber I bought new when I worked at the plant back in 2006... that thing made the Trax look good haha. Take care, FOLKS.

Just my 2 cents, if you are looking for a trouble free new car experience, always avoid the first model year of a new vehicle, or the first year of a major redesign. Let other people deal with all the warranty fixes and for the manufacturer to make new revisions on the parts. Even with Toyota and Honda their first year of new models are a mess sometimes. With Chinese/korean market cars like this Trax, maybe give it 2 or 3 years…

Sorry to hear that your brand new Trax is giving you so much trouble and the dealer can't fix any of the problems. I totally understand your frustration. True, Got your money and done with you. Hope not to see you again unless you want to spend more money. The exception is when you have many acquaintances or friends or it's a family business then you get treated better. If people only spend a few hours or days researching the vehicle they intend to buy would resolve many issues of not getting a lousy vehicle. The Trax is a very cheap small SUV with a 3-cylinder or golf cart engine. What do you expect from the cheapest of the cheap Crossover, Mini, or compact SUV lineup? Sorry, must do your homework. Hopefully, the guy will feel better soon.

I leased a 24 LS Trax a few months as it has been great! I got it from a trusted dealer to whom I have been dealing with for over 25 years, never got a bad car from a Malibu, to a Monte Carlo, to 2 Sparks and now a Trax of which I still own those cars and never had any problems - I have a 1990 Caprice which after 33 years is as reliable if it were new...I am sorry that you are experiencing these problems. My advice is take it to a reputable independent Chevy dealer who has been around and have them repair it. My wife puts close to 225 miles per week on this 24 Trax as it has been great...do not let one person's "bad" experience ruin what has been wonderful experience for those who have not had any problems with it.

Sorry to see you’ve had so many issues with your Trax. My nephew’s 1LT has been great for him. Seems you got a bad one and I’m disappointed with your dealership experience. My dealership has been very good fixing the 2 minor issues I’ve had with my 2019 (year 1) Blazer. Good luck with the Kona. I hope it treats you well but fair warning… my neighbor works for a dealership that sells Kia/Hyundai. I mentioned I was looking at getting a car and he told me not to get a Kia/Hyundai and proceeded to tell me a few nightmare stories about engines failing and parts availability. He said they had at least 30 cars on their lot waiting for new engines. Some had been there for months. Obviously it’s not all of them and I hope your Kona is a good one and it gives you many happy miles.

Sorry to hear of your terrible experience with your new Trax. I have one and it’s been great so far (8,000 miles). It’s only been back to the dealer once for a software update to correct a false TPMS malfunction message. It’s unacceptable that GM can’t supply your dealership the needed parts to fix your Trax in a reasonable amount of time. Parts exist because they’re still coming off the assembly lines. There’s no excuse why some parts cannot be sent to the USA to support dealers and their customers. If mine ever needs a part under warranty I hope it’s not on back order with no ETA. Best of luck with your new Kona. I think there’re a good choice. A non turbo MPI engine sounds like a recipe for reliability and longevity,

To make my matters worse, 2 weeks after the windshield cracked, I had a huge piece of plywood fly off someone's truck and into my front bumper, causing damage estimated at $2k. Having shopped on Copart for half a year and seeing what turns up got to say those wet timing belts are time bombs as they like to snap around the 100k mark sometimes a lot less. Basically all the teeth come off the belt clogging the uptake for the oil pump while the engine goes out of time causing other issues. As for conventional CVT well most of us know that once the belt starts to slip it is out its way out though regular fluid changes helps.

That is awesome to hear! I never heard of a parking brake cable failing, till recently. Someone I know with a 2008 Chevy Silverado who uses the parking brake a lot had it break. Maybe the 2024 Mirage will break too? We will see! It's kind of funny, almost everyone hates on the Mirage, and it's a reliable car. Then the Chevy people like, maybe due to the extra power, but it barely is able to last 2,000 miles. I feel like your Chevy is defective, it shouldn't be breaking so easy.. I had a 2013 Chevy Sonic LT, and had almost no problems with it. Only issue was the HVAC fan wheel squeaked when running at lower speeds. Most people couldn’t hear it, I guess it was at a register to everyone could hear (like the service people at the dealership, lol). Traded it after 4 years for a 2019 Chevy Cruze Diesel Hatchback. LOVED that diesel car. I got 60mpg on the highway sometimes on road trips. Had incredible torque, and I even drove in a blizzard and it got me through that safely. Sadly, a dump truck ran a red light and totaled my car. I was perfectly fine after getting hit by it, which was super impressive. I really like the look of the Trax, but nothing GM offered compared to the Cruze diesel on efficiency numbers, and they cancelled the Cruze. So, I got a Kia Niro. I’ve been happy with it, and easily get 45-48mpg in normal driving.

Sorry you're having so many issues. Reminds me of my experience with my new 2018 Hyundai Elantra. It was so problematic in the first 25k miles. I was very interested in the Trax and Envista when they first came out, but the more I learn about them, the less interested I am. I think for the same price range, people are better off with a Kia Soul. The cargo area is shorter in length, but reliability should prove better, it has a much longer warranty, and the interior is nicer quality.

I've been thinking of a new vehicle...I narrowed it down between the new Trax and a new Jetta (6-speed). Your video is the exact reason I keep shying away from the Trax. I like the looks of it, the interior, and of course NO CVT...(a manual would have been a great choice for a base model, and would have probably pushed 40MPG). I even get a supplier discount on these, and I'm still leaning towards something else. There is NO reason for a brand new vehicle with less than 30K miles to have these issues, much less at less than 2k! I bought a brand new Focus back in '07, and I beat the shit out of that 5-speed, and that's the only major issue I ever had when the trans went out at 130K...it was all of $2,000 to replace, and she made it to 198K miles until I made the mistake of scrapping her due to rust issues. Never leaked or burned any oil, and I was still only on my second set of brakes (90% highway miles). I replaced the power steering pump after driving it for 2 years after it went out. Oh, and the AC was dead at 150K. That car was SO good to me, but I'm sure there are plenty of people who had horrible experiences with them like you with your Trax...but I paid $14K for my Focus, and got lucky. Do I want to gamble with over $20K on a new Trax, and hope that the UAW workers actually felt like working when they put it together? I know it's assembled in South Korea, so that might be a moot point since maybe the actually give half a shit about work ethic...meh, I'm done ranting. It would just be nice to be able to put faith in buying a brand new car that isn't going to be a complete headache before 100K miles.

@@aenoymotors Well, I went against my better judgement and bought a base Trax LT with no options. It's still the best optioned vehicle I've ever owned haha. I got it with 12 miles, and I'm about to hit 900 with no problems...not that there SHOULD be, but I've also read the negative reviews, so I'm cautiously optimistic. A lot of people seem worried about the lack of power, but it's more than adequate even when merging onto the interstate via a short ramp. I think people are spoiled by 300HP turbo 4-bangers...the 1.2liter is fine, but we'll see how long it lasts, even with me babying it. None of the complaints I've read numerous times have applied...the trans does seem a little confused at times and kicks down to accelerate inappropriately, and I did notice on my drive home this morning after encountering a dead skunk, that if I put just the back windows down, the headliner (or something) acts like a massive subwoofer that vibrates enough to rattle the door panels and make me sound as though I'm speaking into a fan. It's mildly amusing. I'm on my 4th tank of gas. My first tank that I filled got me 30MPG, and the last one I was at 28. It's been 80% interstate, and I didn't go over 65 on the first, and the last one I'd set the cruise at 70. I'm not going by the vehicle information either...that says 28.5 MPG, but also claims a 30MPH average speed, when I'm doing 60 miles a day on the interstate at 65+. So far so good though, and NO digital gauge cluster!

Thanks for your informative review. I feel for you, so sorry this brand new vehicle is having issues right off the bat. I clicked on this video because I too liked the body style and color of this new Traxx. I also like the more upscale Buick Envista same engine. It really is such a shame that for the price of a new vehicle the quality of reliability is just not there....like it's a thing of the past. An extra shame that Chevy is an America car co. The wet timing belt worries me and I bet they charge a lot to have it replaced. I have 3 different Toyotas that range from 13 to 21 years of age with timing chains with over 200,000 miles and they all still run very good. That being said I have been seeing recalls on Toyotas increasing with their new vehicles. Sad, as much money investment for a vehicle these days an owner should rightfully expect at least a decade of no major problems.

The engine was underpowered for a car its size and the transmission shifted hard. The heated seats were great... until they stopped working. The heated seats I heard were a problem with the Equinox. I was going to have them looked at when I had planned on a service date to have a few other things done until I crashed it. After having two mediocre vehicles, I said goodbye to Chevy and GM. I wanted a car with performance and comfort, so I ended up buying a Toyota Camry. Honestly, there is two things with the Corolla Cross that turn me off of it. One, the rear seats don't fold flat with the cargo floor. This matters to few but it's important to me when I do dog transports and need the room. Can't have crates tipping over! The second thing is Toyota's lack of remote start... they only offer it with the subscription service with your cell phone and that doesn't sit well with me. At any rate, I traded the Trax in for a Hyundai Kona. It meets all my criteria and, as an added bonus, I actually really like it.

It's all the effort to improve with unproven technology; the more they add the more it costs. Case in point, a 2012 Chevrolet Sonic LS sedan, 1.8 5M. Standard equipment, it has 4-spkr stereo, keyless power locks with *engine disabler, AC, vacuum asst. disk/drums, TPMS, strut/torsion beam suspension tuned by Corvette Racing, and the best automatic lighting system in any vehicle. What it does not have is ADAS, power windows, cruise control, back up camera, navigation, heated seats or wheel, nor a turbocharger. All that's been done in a shop is routine oil changes and tire rotation, and two full sets of tires. DIY is battery, MAF sensor, all five coolant hoses and serpentine with tensioner, all this at 11 years old. What hasn't been touched, clutch, including hydraulics, brakes, suspension parts or alignment, exhaust, water pump, thermostat, alternator, AC, coil pack, plugs, cam cover gasket, timing belt. In fact, just inspected the timing belt and it's in new condition. What it does is drive like new. Barks new tires accidentally, power delivery is linear, relentless and with authority. Cruises happy at 22 in OD and 75 at 3000 rpm. Idles up hills in snow past stranded 4x4s. Tracks straight as an arrow and through turns with complete confidence. Brakes the same way, straight and completely reliable. AC blows icy air using the original Freon. Surpassed 97k today. Still averages 38-42 mpg. No rust, an Arizona car until Aug '22. The more stuff add, the more stuff breaks. GM lost me with the word TURBO, and their timing chains and tensioners are garbage. It's better to keep things simple, stick with what works.

This is a common problem with this car but not usually until 80k. The turbo charger cracks. Mine ran fine after this part broke but it was no touque or pick up. It cost about $560 to have it replaced. I have since bought a 3rd party extended warranty for about $70 per month. I really like the car, it's sad Chevy does not have Toyota quality. Brand new out the door I paid 24k for an LT1. It's amazing all of the features the car has, Mine was actually built in Detroit so I think it's better than average; however the problems I will have with the car are predictable and well documented. If you want a 10 year car, buy a Toyota or a Subaru. You also buy a 10K higher price tag.

Your Sonic has the same issue with the remote start not running the a/c? That's goofy... My Bolt does, my neighbor's Buick Enclave does, and my old 04 Malibu Maxx I had did. Damn GM and being inconsistent.

There are nationwide shortages on a lot of cars. My car sat at the dealership for 4 months waiting for a new wheel assembly that went bad and it was under warranty yet but there were shortages and recalls so it just took forever to get back. It sucked.

Software glitches with the reverse camera and tpms randomly freaking out, a/c compressor blew up, windows randomly not working, and the remote start not working right. I think that's everything... it's been a few months since it's been gone now.

I'm glad I didn't get one then! I had to get rid of my 2023 VW Taos that I had just bought in August as well! It had so many issues that I looked up and found out a lot of people were having too! I was debating between the Trax and the Honda Civic Hatchback and I went with the Civic and love it! Lost a lot of money though! At least its gone and I'm in something I'm happy with! I wanted the green Trax so bad though! They do have some cute/nice colors on it! But I love the Smokey Mauve Pearl that my Civic is in! I get compliments/questions about it almost everyday! As far as your issues with not being able to run the AC with remote start... With my dogs I just leave the car running but take the key with me and it will stay on as long as I don't get super far away from the car but I can run in a gas station or a store and it stays on for them!

The windows issue must have been a bad batch of motors. Seeing a lot of those issues but also a lot of people without them. I expected most of the software issues tho thus why i got a extended warranty. Would have rather gotten at mazda but they are becoming way to expensive and i got a hefty discount through gm.

I own a 2021 Chevy Spark which I bought in April of 21. I've got 25K miles on it now and so far it's been trouble free and an excellent car. The dealer has been pestering me to trade it in on one of these. I do like the look of these and am tempted. But this makes me think twice. Along with the wet timing belt thing. If I were to get one of these it would be a lease. I don't see being stuck with one out of warranty. Though to be honest it looks like having one "in" warranty doesn't necessaritly mean much either.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Chevy Trax before at least not yet. This goes with any brand you get but as soon as a brand new car comes out they’re always gonna have problems. That’s why you gotta wait until they’ve been out for 3- 4 years then The car companies usually work out all the problems on that car by then.
