Ah, brilliant mate. You did so well with Willie. I am gonna start calling you "Ace Ventura". Poor wee thing losing an eye. He seemed to love that basin of water. Here is a wee story of my seagull rescue. I have rescued a few birds in my time and this brings back a big memory. When I was a train driver I was just starting my shift. I was starting up the locomotive and spotted a young Seagull walking around the depot. It was really raining hard and the poor wee thing could not even fly because his feathers were so wet. So what did I do? I got out and put him in the back seat of my car hoping he would be dry by the time I came back from my shift. Well, he wasn't and there was plenty of shit to clean off my back seat. Anyway, took him home. I was just married at the time and we were in a flat 3 stories up. When I came home with him I put him in the spare bedroom which just had floorboards and no carpet. All night we could hear the padding about on the bare floorboards in the room. The downstairs neighbors must have thought I was off my nut. When I finally woke in the morning I checked on him and he was nice and dry. So it was time for him to go free. He was bigger than one-eyed Willie and he could fly. It was during the summer. So what did I do? I opened the window and chucked him out. At first, I thought he was going to hit the ground like a brick but I was wrong. Just at the last second, he opened his wings and just started flying away. Anyone who may have seen me at four o'clock in the morning chucking a seagull out my bedroom window would have thought, "In the name of fu*k, what was that all about". It's the truth mate. 🤣😂👌👍🐦

Hi Frankie, Alan and Willy! Just an idea but wrap Willy in a towel and put him under your arm then with the same hand use your thumb and forefinger to help open his beak at the base then use the syringe to feed I have chickens that I’ve bred and rescued and this is how I manage to syringe feed them whilst young. I imagine it's tricky the first couple of times, but once they catch on, it's easy. All my experience is with lambs - there's nothing that's transferable to birds.

Perhaps he needs to be fed by a bird puppet, maybe with a chunk of sardine - use the beak as a pair of tweezers. Hold the food above Willy, so he has to put his head up for it.

Like a proud father watching him take his first bath . Can’t wait till you teach him to fly 🤣. I had a baby seagull stuck on my balcony for 3 days . Eventually managed to pick him up with a towel and take him downstairs and set him free . He flew across the road straight into a wall and died . The end .

@@systemSkynet Well the choices are take him there and they will put it down, or bring him on strong and give him a fighting chance. I've had one eyed birds in my garden and seen them in the wild feeding and functioning perfectly well. I took a poorly squirrel into a wildlife centre once and they just told me there and then they have to kill it as they can't release it, I was gutted and i'd wished id have nursed it myself at least it would have had a chance. As long as the animal isn't physically suffering you have to do your best by them eh...

Once with a neglected cat that i had fed for months and then decided to be a 'good' citizen and inform the animal "protection", instead of just taking the cat in. They caught it with a cage ( though i could easily pick it up with my hands ) and immediately had it put down behind my back , although i had informed them up front that i wanted to adopt it. I still see that little face of that poor cat. Later i heard from an employee at "animal protection" that they are very quick to kill animals, because that's "more cost-effective". Now that little cat who trusted me , is dead and they killed it. I have called this "animal protection service" about the case and they coldly refused to explain why they killed the cat. Up to this day i wish i had never contacted them in the first place The cat would still have been alive and would have had a good life. NEVER TRUST THESE "ANIMAL PROTECTION" SERVICES. They are all too eager to put animals down unnecessarily.
