If you are into orchestral composition, then Musio is to me the best value out there if you buy the perpetual licence-. You are getting a large percentage of the Cinesamples quality libraries, although as you say Ian without some of the patches. I purchased the $199 perpetual licence (for just under £160 here in the UK, no VAT on top) and have been informed by them by email that mic positions are coming. And I'm not expecting to be charged any extra. Musio have also released one new additional sample library since I purchased in August 2024 (sounds of SCOTLAND was added only last month) . A few important things are missing such as all the string runs in Hollywood winds and legato control on all the libaries (i.e. to introduce portamento). But for £160 I've now got a huge selection of really best quality sample libraries to fill holes within my existing VSTs or for layering. So for me a complete no brainer. I've also dowloaded everything onto SSD, however that said I still find it takes time to load in certain samples which was a bit of a surprise. Like you Ian I hate subsciptions and just moved from Studio One to Cubase for that very reason. The only one I have is Roland Cloud at £2.99 per month.

I'm a dabbler rather than an orchestrator and tend to use orchestral sounds alongside synthy sounds. Yes, you got a great deal. Did you also get the Scotland library? I got the impression that new additions would not be added.😲 Interesting that you didn't get charged VAT 🤔

@@IanWaugh I did a bit of research and other users suggested that us Perpetual owners won't get upgraded to Musio 2 when that is released, but as Musio 1 owners will receive all the future additions until that point. Which seems true as yes did get Scotland a few weeks ago and just played it now to test it's working. Also they released some additional patches to another library too recently. Yeah am sure the VAT wasn't included as was around £160 so when I saw the price coming up, was an instant purchase. Wonder why you were charged then? I also picked up a brand new released Novation Launchkey Mk4 as the store placed a 25% discount on it which I presume must have been a mistake. So maybe just enjoying a lucky streak because you would have thought the VAT would trigger however you bought it. Mine was just a one off credit card transaction.

@@IanWaugh The Scotland library, plus several others, were on the “coming soon” list when I bought Musio 1 perpetual a year ago. All of these have been added now and I have access. We are still waiting for improved effects and advanced mixing (mic positions), but, as promised, there have been ongoing improvements to various libraries in Musio 1. As far as I am aware, there are no new instruments yet that aren’t available in Musio 1.

Great video Ian. Might have to check out Musio... (I also might wait to hear your review after you've used it for 6 months to see if you are still in love). 🤔😉 Thanks for the recommendation!

Hi - great to hear from you. They are supposed to be adding more features and libraries. A couple of Commenters said they went for the perpetual license at $199 which seems a better deal if you are going to use it for 2+ years. If you're interested, try the 30-day trial 👍

I bought the Musio perpetual license 12 months ago for $300. I am happy with it as general toolkit at a terrific value price, and I wonder why people are still buying the stand-alone Cinesample libraries instead. I assume that Musio is limited in the subtleties that Kontakt programming can provide, though some of the orchestral mockups I’ve heard using Musio are convincing and damned good. I suppose that some professionals need their orchestral mockups or finished cues to have the best production quality possible. For the rest of us, I am thinking that Musio might be more than good enough for our orchestral instrument needs. If Musio had been available in its current form a few years ago, I wouldn’t have bought all those expensive Spitfire orchestral libraries. As a music hobbyist with money to waste, I was buying stuff when it went on sale, just in case I MIGHT want to learn orchestral programming someday.

Yes, great deal 👍 I agree that Musio will probably be just fine for most folks but the full libraries do offer more so it's a personal decision. It's more than fine for me and the stuff I'm douing at the moment 😊

Yes, Big Business thinking up ways to get more money out of us 😤 The Perpetual plan is currently on sale and very tempting - if only for the choirs 🤔

It's $49 a year right now, or all the time if you can get the edu discount. 4 bucks a month is just silly cheap. Normally I hate subs but for all the things you get this is great. Gives me time to really find what I like (and don't) and learn a bit more about orchestral libraries.

Yes, it's super-cheap at the moment, and the perpetual license is also a bargain 👍

@@IanWaughI’m not a fan of subscriptions. If the software was already developed, why should people be charged every month? I get that companies need revenue, but it feels exploitative. I’d rather pay a higher upfront price and support meaningful updates than feel like I’m just renting the software indefinitely.
