What makes this frustrating is that they HAVE the formula for creating a new animated universe. Its the same arguement of what WB should have done with the DCEU by following the DCAU. They have it right there and yet its like they can't see it.
@DareToEntertain Жыл бұрын
I have been having this exact conversation since highschool in like 2015-16. The template for a perfect Universe is there. And I genuinely believe Gunn sees that and will use it for his universe. Not souly but he has at least consumed that and knows hey that works. While also reading all the runs of JLA or any important DC run. Even the badly received ones. I have faith.

I’ve always found the argument to follow the DCAU to be stupid. So what? A ton of films about only Batman and Superman, then introduce all the other heroes in a single film? Sounds like they already tried that.
@Jhp29000 Жыл бұрын
@@CommanderSteelTrapwell I feel like it makes sense to an extent. If they are trying for a connected universe the Animated verse is a good template for that. They need to establish what marvel did in the beginning a connection with the characters. Like age of ultron although wasn’t that good the scene with everyone just relaxing and having fun was a great moment in the movie where the characters feel real. Civil war,infinity war,and endgame we felt what some of the characters were going through and would often assume their thoughts on the current situation. Batman,Superman ,and Wonder Woman haven’t had that type of depth in a good while not saying the animated movies did a perfect job but it was something
@CommanderSteelTrap Жыл бұрын
@@Jhp29000 But that’s not what the DCAU did, not until near the end. It was pretty much just Batman and Superman stuff for ages, maybe the occasional other hero would make an appearance, but then they shoved all of them together in JL. It’s not until JLU where stuff like the heroes just hanging out and doing nothing for a while started becoming actually prominent, now that they actually had more than 7 heroes in the Universe to actually use. And it’s not what the DCAMU or now the Tomorrowverse did either. They pretty much only built up a few characters, while shoving the rest in at the end when they were needed.

It’s all economic driven. They reboot everything because they see that the old universe has “ran it’s course,” so to speak. So they start all over again with catchy catchphrase as NEW, EXCITING, ALL NEW, ALL DIFFERENT, etc. They do this to boost up their sales once again. You can’t get attached because the company themselves are not driven by artistic integrity. It’s all about money. The reason for this is because we live in a money driven capitalistic society. You can’t expect to make a livable living wage with a small group of customers. So you have to expand with things that boost up your market sales. Even if it means throwing artistic integrity out the window.

But the Tomorrowverse feels hopeful. My biggest issue with the old universe was Superman. Superman is supposed to be the poster child for “hope”. And in the old universe he felt bloody thirsty, inhuman, and a punch first talk later guy, which just isn’t Superman, that’s Batman. In the tomorrowverse, Superman has been that symbol of hope. I agree that it hasn’t been super engaging in terms of connectivity, but I enjoy the art style, and the animation feels fluid.

I agree and disagree with some sentiments here. I think the animation is actually quite nice. The thick lines and coloring makes it feel like a literal comic book come to life. It feels classic. Like you compared anime to this (which is never a good idea), but you did so by putting cinematic parkour… next to three characters walking through a door?? That’s a very poor argument to make, as if characters walking through a door have to be as epic as hunters zip lining across the air. Literally all the great animated scenes in the Tomorrowverse that COULD compare to anime or atleast be considered nice to look at: •Superman Vs Lobo •Batman chasing Catwoman •Batman Vs the mafia in that alleyway in Part 1 •WonderWoman vs Aquaman •John Stewart and Arrow Vs Hal Jordan •Supergirl vs Grundy •Superman and Flash Vs Brainiac. Like if you’re gonna make the claim that the animation is bad or inferior to anime, don’t compare an intentionally average scene to one that a lot of people put time and effort into to make thrilling. Fair on both sides. I’m not saying that the Tommorowverse is as slick and inventive as anime, but it’s not trying to be and that’s okay. That said, I think the movies play it too safe. Story wise. Nobody is making any bold strides, and there isn’t much hype for continuing stories. Even when characters get sick power ups, they resort back shortly afterwards. It doesn’t feel like a universe is building, but rather that it’s teasing a potential build up. They also skip way more than what’s necessary. Why give us a Batman, Superman, Flash, and Green Lantern origin/early years movies if we’re not even gonna see them get together for the first time? We don’t even know what or who this team consists of yet, which is a damn shame. There’s just not enough patience. But to land on a good note? All the characters actually feel like who they’re supposed to be, which is more than what recent previous and even current iterations can say. Superman is shamelessly hopeful and has a good soul, but also human and without a god complex. Batman is an actual detective and not just a high tech ninja. Flash is the heart still, but also struggles to stay in the moment. Supergirl is bubbly and actually fun to see on screen but with her own story and setting and arc that separates her from her more popular cousin. In a way, you can see what they’re going for. Even if they aren’t hitting the mark and hugging too close to source material for safety instead of telling original and groundbreaking stories, it’s atleast a solid effort.

Fair on both sides. I’m not saying that the Tommorowverse is as slick and inventive as anime, but it’s not trying to be and that’s okay." Just to quickly address this. This was a miscommunication between me and my editor. He has never watched anime so I assume he grabbed the easiest thing to showcase rather then something that was a fair comparison. Thats on me so I am sorry. To give further context to why I wrote that in the script. The reason I dislike the overall look of the tomorrow verse isn't for those WIT style one take shots that are stunning. Its even just the smaller talking scenes. Where shows like Vinland saga is able to articulate such small details in emotion that I just get nowhere near here. Comparing overall to anime is yeah not fair. Its why I only a few times dare go near that. Its more so I have covered quite a bit of anime on the channel and wanted to showcase the whiplash of coming from that space back to western media where Animation like this. Is yeah more so rushed out the door under tough time constraints were talented artists arent able to flourish their skills. As for the scenes you mentioned they all just dont work for me from an entertainment engaging viewpoint. For me. Others here have shown that yes it does work. But to be clear, the DCAMU films also struggled in this regard and films like Injustice were 10x worse. I actively hated my time with that film. And I hear you on the writing. its nice to see these heroes actually being themselves. But the voice acting and writing just feels so undercooked like no one was giving the time to truly just cook. Thank you for taking the time to comment mate. I appreciate the care you have for these films to have this much to say.

Bro still dont get what tommoverse is meant for . Judging from the art style, character designs and story wise you can easily tell this is a toned down of the new 52, making it less complex, simple and straight, but it focuses on character contained stories emphasizing the symbols of every hero. Which the new 52 hasn't fairly done, dont get me wrong there are alot of DCAMU movies that have have character development stories but its more intended to lesser know characters like the "son of batman" clearly focuses on damian's development, this time it brings back the OG justice league animated character vibes trying to fit in modern times. So basically tomorrowverse is more on emphasizing self contained stories intended on showing true personalities of each heroes in a simple way. So its safe to say the character designs, etc. matches the universe

Their powers are shaped by not just their will but the way they think. Hal is the paragon of will and the standard of GL heroism. John Stewart is a creative architect, not some half arsed genius or just better chosen one. If he can beat Parallax it should be because of Hal losing his best qualities despite being more powerful than the Corps combined and John having a 3d way of thinking and creativity with the ring that lets him create things no other GL would think of. You nailed it on the head. "They were better off making a whole series than cutting it and using better story telling." Why arent these movies longer? I know budget is the boring answer but far out. Just to see Justice Society and be so dissapointed and irked by it... The animation it's like you said, bland, soulless and as someone that has watched pretty old series i can say that i consider it even worse than them (series like He-man, Thundercats, etc.) i turned it off before the 10 minute mark because i just could'nt watch it

@@BigAl2-u7e I am aware of hal becoming Parallax in the 90s yes. However I expected other arcs first in regards to Hal. Imagine if this new universe starts with Batman in Gotham with the Riddler & Joker going at war with each other or Bane killing Alfred in front of damien, It's too damn soon. Plus the way in which it happened just didn't fit right. If you're gonna do Hal Parallax then you better do 2 things. 1). Have everything else established with hal. Sinestro being kicked out of the core, Show John & Guy gardner, Blackest Night Prophecy(not the event), Coast city's destruction, Etc. 2). Give it justice. Don't screw it up. That's it's.

@@nicknight1728Smallville did this same story but better they didn't give an origin to this crap as they just told you want they were and who this character is as it's more to develop the characters and make a unique story instead of making the same story. as let's be real everyone knows who the Green Lantern Corp is along sinestro's origin can just be said as it's not essential to the plot. The prophecy isn't really that important to the story depending on how you want parallax to be. It's important to make a good characterization for Hal as the parasite manipulates his fear and anger into corrupting him this is why Beware My Power failed when it came to Hal.

I'd add the universe feels empty. The films barely hold together as a shared universe, aside from the characters dropping a random line acknowledging another film. Kinda peeved the each film starts by showing us a crapton of interesting stuff happened between films but we'll never get to see it (why would you skip the formation of the JL?). Its making the same mistakes as the DCEU but worse. Jump around and make a universe without putting in effort (they literally skip Man of Tomorrow 2 the way DC skipped Man of Steel 2, which would be a great way to expand on Superman characters, like Lex, while introducing characters like Flash, which would make the transition to Justice Society work better). Definitely needed movies to connect the dots better because in the end it feels like there's 5-10 years of content and we only got to see about 20 hours (2 hours per movie) of what it had to offer. If I had to guess, many of these were already planned before DCAMU was canceled and they just wrote in stuff to say it was a different shared universe...

2:05 while I don't disagree with you, you're comparing a fight scene to a scene of people walking. In anime, fight scenes, especially major ones tend to have extra care and effort put into them, so they'll look better animated than most of the rest of the series. The clip you showed of the one with Supergirl is how the majority of animation in anime look like (not in artstyle obviously)
@DareToEntertain Жыл бұрын
This was a communication error between me and my editor. We have joked about this clip because in hindsight you are absolutely right. It’s so unfair. While it's true that the Tomorrowverse isn't completely perfect, I'd argue it isn't as bad as you think it is. The Man of Tomorrow movie was a weak start to jumpstart the new animated universe, but Justice Society WW2 and The Long Halloween Part 1 and 2 have been really great additions to this new universe. It's also pretty debatable if people think the animation and art style is bad, because it honestly isn't. The New52 only have a few movies with good animation and those are Son of Batman, Batman VS. Robin, Batman Bad Blood, Teen Titans The Judas Contract, and The Death of Superman. The rest have been serviceable. I can understand why it's not everyone's cup of tea though, because a lot of people have been so used with the New52 DCAMU Art style.
@DareToEntertain Жыл бұрын
The New52 artsyle for me got old quick. I do think the death of superman has some good sequences but man... the art style for me just seriously looked so flat to these new movies. The problem really lies with how similar they all are to each other. A superman movie with a massive monster shouldnt look the same as a mystery thriller batman movie. The really funny part is I have seen so much praise for these movies (the tomorrowverse) on twitter. I was actually kinda worried this would be a Justice League: DAW situation where everyone disagreed and I somehow had a huge hot take. Thanks for watching the video. Do y'all remember the Archer show that animated show about the spy agency l. Well the art style reminds me so much of that but like slightly more exaggerated and with a slight bigger budget. My fav movie from this era was the Justice Society WWII because to me it's was the most interesting. I find it kind of weird that DC doesn't explore Wonder Woman being a WW 2 and sometimes WW1 vet all that often it would be really interesting if we got like a animated show ( in general)or maybe just a couple of comic issues that explore her past. I'm not the biggest fan of the new 52 recon that makes her come to man's would later in life it just doesn't seem right to me. One of her main characteristics is her wisdom and that comes from her many experiences from her vast time in man's world.l as well as the fact that she's hundreds if not thousands of years old. Any way, kind of rambled, great vid.👍🏾
