I think the big thing is Ian seems to have lost his sense of humor. You can grow up and still have fun. If you look at Max, Chad, or Frank, they've evolved as people but don't carry vitriol for the people they use to rub shoulders with. They appreciate the fondness people have for their old content while making new stuff that people genuinely enjoy. Peoples biggest gripe seems to come down to Ian taking himself to seriously now.

I think the problem with the narrative of IDubbbz as an “edgy teenager” is that the content cop, hard-r n-word days weren’t back when he was a teen; he was in his late twenties. It wasn’t a youthful blunder from which he has “grown up”, he was a fully formed adult man when he made those videos. I also think the whole “holier-than-thou” attitude he has about the situation is strange. It’s like he views himself as better than all his fans because he, and he alone, has grown away from saying a bunch of slurs. On the one hand, that alienates everyone who did the exact same stuff he did, while also seeming like an insufficient apology or excuse to people who always thought IDubbbz was fucked up for saying those things. Who is supposed to be on his side? Not his old, edgy fans; not his new, “””woke””” fans (for lack of a better term); nor his handful of fans who, like him, have grown and stopped being as edgy as he used to be. He’s judgmental and thinks he’s better than everyone who used to support him, and at the same time is so sensitive to any criticism he’s become like the people he used to make fun of.

It's because his humour was always a product of its time: if he didn't constant spam out slurs in all his videos, he wouldn't have nearly as much success. Like 90% of his fanbase was edgy kids who liked watching him cuz he said things "your not supposed to say". Furthermore, Froggy joked that if he lost to Chris Ray Gun, he'd subscribe to Anita's OF. Ian already said he was totally cool with his wife's OF in his video about it, so for him to take action on it now makes him a massive hypocrite and proves that it actually does make him very upset. If anything, Anisa's mother insulting Froggy on Twitter should have merited an apology from the show runners; why is that reasonable for Anisa's mom to try to get a reaction from one of the performers, and that performer is expected to say nothing?

To my knowledge, Froggy was never directly disrespectful of iDubbbz or Anisa until after he was kicked. The one clip I am aware of that could be interpreted as disrespectful is the one I mentioned: that Froggy would subscribe to Anisa's OnlyFans if he lost to Chris. This is not remotely disrespectful, and on the contrary, it's supportive of sexworkers because it's directly supporting sexworkers with money. People have seen generations of comedians build their careers by lampooning sacred cows and offending everyone and their grandma for laughs, before proceeding to pull up the ladder once they're "big". It's all so tiresome. Most people don't want to be preached to by a guy whose just trying to fit in with his new LA friends. If associating with Sam was a problem then he should have made it apparently clear from the jump that people would be kicked from the event if they did. He instead beat around the bush with the situation up to the point Froggy started talking with Sam, and even then in the text messages he shows he continues to beat around the bush with Froggy and never gives him a concrete answer, until he kicked him from the card. So this whole situation could have been avoided if Ian would have just put his foot down on the whole Sam Hyde situation. Most of the comments Froggy made were from after he was kicked from the card for drama he was unknowingly dragged into.

I don’t really mind what IDubbbz does going forward. He made content that was entertaining at the time, and I feel like he fell off before all these controversies. I think the issue is every time he goes over how he's changing, he acts condescending and it's absolutely irritating to people who used to watch him. Like even in his latest video, he called on people who enjoyed his content that they need to learn empathy and proceeded to talk down. Like Filthy Frank never been through this sort of headache due to his old content because he, since dropping it, never acted like he hated his audience or condescendingly talked down to him. He can change all he wants, but you can't tell the people who loved and supported you all these years that they lack empathy and that in order to get some, 'it'll be hard and painful and it's okay.' like they're children going to the doctor and afraid of getting a shot. Like...no shit they're pissed off at you. I've seen youtubers change their content before, have the 'I'm leaving this community' videos, and not get this level of venom. That's what I think is the problem anyway.

I will say this, most if not all of the shit talking from froggy occured after he was kicked off, and idubbbz never said froggy couldnt work with sam if the texts shown during ians video are to be taken at face value. This could have all been solved if ian or anissa were just straightforeward with froggy, but they decided to be wishy washy about it and the whole thing backfired in their face

I think the issue is less that he moved on from the old content and more that he went so nuclear on the way his disavowed it. Many creators evolve and change as time progresses, but most of them don't sit there and say, "My old content is not okay and if you like it, you're a bad person"

Idk where you've been looking Sumito but when it happened people were constantly making fun of Ian for taking her last name. Anyway I don't think his old content was ever "hateful" it was just mildly edgy, like I never sensed bad intentions in any of his videos even in the content cop videos where he was specificity going after someone it was always with the intent of putting a spotlight on them.and giving them a taste of their own medicine. a single loser coming up to him and saying the n word when he had as many subs as he did clearly shouldn't be indicative of his fanbase overall. I don't care about him wanting to change his content or growing out of it, I dislike the fact he seems to be ashamed of it and took a swing at people who still enjoy it (aka the majority of his current subscribers).

His shame is in spreading hate, not for "taking down" people or for the sketches he made. And I understand him perfectly, hate is getting to an absurd point. Outrage and ragebait aren't just taking algorithms hostage, they're negatively influencing society as a whole. Even if Ian wasn't wrong in his criticism, he created a legion of people feeding on negativity, and he benefited from it while trying to excuse himself of dubious behavior.

15:14 The "internet drama" that is overshadowing Ian, is Ian's creation. He' got butt hurt and went after Sam Hyde in a bad way. Then goes after FF after the guy tweets about something that Ian is supposedly "100% supporting". The fact that the guy is mad about who FF trained with is wild. Remember: This all happened because Ian went out of his way to get into contact with Sam Hyde in the first place. Here's my long take. My main problem with this whole iDubbbz saga is he frames his old content as just a bunch of racist and homophobic stuff and that his fans back then just tuned in for that and that's why we like it. If you want to examine it through that frame of course you'll find plenty of examples, the Tana content cop, him calling himself n*****r f*****t, and the "I'm gay" meme. I think most people except the weird schizos would agree "yeah dude you should end that''. Perfectly reasonable. Same with not wanting to associate with Sam Hyde or people who work with him, perfectly reasonable again. He shouldn't have to associate with someone publicly shitting on him. As a devil's advocate though he should have handled both creator clash incidents better though, banned Sam and informed him before the event and ticket were bought and straight up said Froggy would get kicked out if he worked with Sam. My problem is ballparking, I would say 99% of the people would have still tuned in without all the cringe racist and gay jokes and his videos would have been almost the same and done just as well. He's shifting the blame to the people who made him and it wasn't his fans responsibility to police him and I don't appreciate being lectured to by the guy that couldn't figure that out in his late twenties when it enabled him to make millions. He still won't even delete the videos saying he should have to live with it forever, it's a bullshit reason and he wants those videos to still exist for his channel views. The worst part I don't feel he's genuinely far off from that mean person he was before I think his allies and enemies changed and that was it. He'll apologize to Tana and yet still do shit like make a full documentary, basically a content cop that was dressed up, about Fatty showcasing his clear mental illness poking fun at it and showing the squalor he lives in. He does it because he knows none of his new clique will blast him about that because Fatty is a safe target due to his lets say unique personality and predicaments. I think he got in over his head with associating with Sam Hyde because despite being a dickhead Sam isn't dumb and knew the grift Ian was trying to pull, that's why that video didn't come out until Sam posted it to antagonize him. He never got that satisfying one up that would make him the guy that got one over on Sam Hyde exactly like his content cop series and help ingratiate his reformed image. In conclusion to this novel just go eat pickles in the sewer and unbox fan mail, it was funny, you weren't hurting anyone, and you played to your strengths which was absurdist comedy. I miss THAT iDubbbz!

I agree, that would certainly be better and more engaging to watch, but would it save him face and shield him from the current wave of criticism? Debatable. Lots, and I mean LOTS of people would still complain that it's "end of an era" and, now that he made one on himself, he won't be making those on anybody else.
