Reading is a hobby, you shouldn't feel forced to read something you don't enjoy since reading is supposed to be something that brings you joy. There are so many other books you want to read and I think you should concentrate on books you know/think you will enjoy more. If you still don't know, I say read maybe 2 more chapters and see

This video was so relaxing and chill. Very “hanging out with a friend, talking books”. I’m digging it and hope you do more videos like this! Also: as someone who hates DNFing books, if I’m disliking a book and know I’m not going to enjoy it at a different time, I just skim it as fast I can. I literally skip entire pages if I know the gist of the scene

I always have this rule where I try to read at least half of a book before I decide to give up because if I'm not hooked by then it's not worth continuing on when I can read something else :)
@Ikataja5 жыл бұрын
If 99 Percent Mine doesn't hook you now, why not pause it and start Fight or Flight? You can always pick it back up after you finish Fight or Flight, maybe you'll like it better then? It's what I do with the books that don't hook me, try again later and see if that works out. Sometimes I'm just not in the mood for a specific book, but another time I really love it!

I have really bad habit of, if I like something I'm reading but I'm just not feeling it, i will put it down and start something else. The REALLY bad part is that I will sometimes forget to pick the book back up once I do feel like reading something along the lines of the book I originally put down... My solution to your issue would be to start Fight or Flight BUT listen to the audio book of 99 Percent Mine when you doing something like cleaning or packing/unpacking. That way if you do end up deciding you don't like it, you don't feel like you've wasted time reading something you didn't enjoy.

My general rule for DNFing books is usually this: if I’m 25% thru and not feeling it, then I’ll move on to something else. But if I get halfway through it I figure I may as well finish it. Hope that helps! Let us know what you choose/what you think of each book!

I used to be a dental assistant and I would always tell nervous rootcanal patients that it doesn't hurt it's just 'very boring'. You're just sitting there with your mouth open for a very long time. It's just afterwards, if you're not used to having a lot of dental work done that your jaw will feel sore (and there can be a bit of pain from the RC once you go home but that's normal, a few advil should do the trick), but that's really all.

There are books which you absolutely love it. And there are also books which are written very well but if you can't find your connection to the story then you won't feel that it's compelling you to read more and more. You'll only feel you're just passing by through some pages. Keep reading, finish that story and you'll actually get some positive vibes and satisfaction for finishing that book! Been though this

I had the same problem with War Storm, but since (and only because) it was the last one of a series I pushed myself through it. So, don't waste your time on books that don't make you a happy reader, reading (besides when it is for school - sometime) should make you feel good and should intrigue you to read more. If it's not calling your name, you will just get bored. So move on, you can always get back to it later if you want to know how it ends
@luciasartori27585 жыл бұрын
Try to read some more chapters of the book you’re currently reading as kind of a second chance. If you feel like you haven’t become interested in it by then, don’t be afraid to dnf it and start the other one or any other one you want to read because there are SO MANY BOOKS AND SO LITTLE TIME to be wasting it in something you aren’t enjoying❤️
@breannaberkebile41395 жыл бұрын
I’ve had a similar issue before! What I did was listen to the one I struggled with on audible, and then I read the other one. I did this mainly because the book I was trying to read was SUPER popular and I felt bad not reading it. 😞 That being said, I have literally so many unfinished books!! It happens. 🤷🏼♀️🤪😭

I personally adored both The Hating Game and 99 Percent Mine but if you’re not enjoying it then there isn’t much point continuing. You could always read Fight or Flight and then attempt to go back to it. I find that sometimes I have to read a new book halfway through another, just because I can’t get the new ones description out of my mind, and I just know that I won’t enjoy the original book quite as much.

I am bad when it comes to not finishing books lately. I will start a book but then really want to read something else so I just go ahead and read that other book. My rule is if the first 100 pages don’t thrill me, move on. Life is too short to read a book you don’t love. I used to feel guilty about DNFing books, but there’s 3 that I’ve started this year and put down within the first 40 to 90 pages.

There is a book that had the same theme as 99% mine but were I was hooked! It is called roommate I thought, it is also about 2 people that met again in a B&B from a grandmother. The first one is a daughter that had a rough year and use it as a new start. the other is a friend of her when she was young, but they fel out of touch but the guy was really close with the grandmother so they inherited both the building. There are some feelings but the guy has a girlfriend... pretty similar but I was hooked from first few pages :D

Do not be afraid to dnf a book if it doesn’t interest you. I usually give it 100 pages, and if it still doesn’t grip me and hold me then I let it go. I feel bad but I would rather continue reading as a fun hobby rather than make it a chore. So do what you feel is right for your reading tastes, never feel like you HAVE to finish a book if it doesn’t sit right with you just so you can report back to us fans, we’ll live either way. :)

Hey, so I have a problem on dropping books I’ve started because of OCD. There’s just something about unfinished things that I’m not really able to cope with, a bit like Sheldon, it’s like this itching in the back of my brain that won’t let me forget about that book, even if it’s years later (started Charlotte Street in 2011, never passed page 50, still think about it to this day - I will have to finish it if I ever want to have peace of mind), so what I do when I really wanna like a book but is not working for me it’s go a few chapters ahead and try to see if whatever is happening then sounds interesting enough that I would want to know how the story got to that point. If that’s a no, then you really should just drop it. Funny enough, I downloaded the ebook of 99 percent yesterday, along with The hating game (which I’m actually really excited about). Good reads! :)

I had a similar problem so what I did is read the good/not so good book during my commute and my other book at home before bed. By allocating specific times for each book it helped me finish them. I do however prefer to just read one book at a time - less stress 😄
@thedarkphoenix16405 жыл бұрын
I think you should finish it. If you think it's good but not amazing that's fine it's not a reason to stop reading it. Not every book you read has to be amazing. If your enjoying reading it I'd keep on reading. If your just not liking it at all then I'd stop. Me personally I hate having a bunch of books on my shelf unfinished cause I know even if I liked it I'll probably never pick it up again so I always try to finish a book I'm interested in.

OMGOSH! I know this dilemma well! In general I deal with it this way... I listen to audio, if I can, of the book I'm not 99% into(see what I did there? 😁) and physically read the one I'm anticipating! I'm actually in the middle of reading War and Peace which I started Jan. 1st (964pgs.😶 It's part of a self reading challenge). The break down this massive tome is 13 books. As I finish each breakdown I read my most anticipated, like The Wicked King, The King of Scars, Queen of Air and Darkness and 💗more. If you went to my Goodreads you'd see I've been a very busy Bookwyrm📖🐉📚! So I say, do not deny yourself that Scottish nomnom! It's hard to invest in a so-so book when the spine of another becons your heart. ...sorry so wordy.😊
