I have an eq tip for you...The Auratone Trick

It's been sometime...I know...but I'm back with a helpful tip for listening to the mid-range within your mix. I'm not reinventing the wheel, but I was reintroduced to this from a fellow engineer and I thought I should share this with you all.

If you look online, you can find the frequency response curve of various cube speakers. You can just copy that curve on your EQ. Other than the frequency response single driver speakers are supposedly more phase coherent.

I have the Auratone 5C with built in amps and I have to say that it definitely improved the balances of my mix. I read how Bruce Swedien would meticulously mix on them while mixing the famous Michael Jackson albums at Westlake studio. They're certainly worth it and like a secret weapon for those who don't know.. If you can hear every evident sound on those monitors in good balance your mix will translate very well to all sorts of hifi systems, iPhones etc

You won't regret it, but I'll admit I had to adopt to the sound a bit by listening to a lot of music on it so I knew what to aim for in mixing@@ZebsCorner

It's impossible to replicate the sound of Auratones with simple equalization. The main feature of this monitors is only one speaker without crossovers and separations.

Yes it's not an exact science but more of an idea that gets you close to a what it could sound like when you high pass and low pass. It doesn't replace the Auratone.
