@@trugamingI wouldn't say he grew up. In fact, Kratos simply has no reason to be as angry as he once was. He has no reason to be. What Kratos' new journey shows is that he no longer needs to be afraid of who he once was. He doesn't need to live in the shadow of his own past. He can be different.

Someone pointed out this small detail in the comments of another video that blew my mind, at 45:01 after walking out of Valhalla, and finally accepting himself, he’s doing the same thing the prophecy painting of people worshiping him showed. Axe over his shoulder and wearing the level one garb of survival.

oooooo i never noticed this omggggg

He was always more than the brute he was framed as. Both in-canon and in real life. All too often us old-time fans had to hear people who only started with GOW4 talk about "Kratos is such a better character now, the old version just yelled a lot" even though they never played the previous entries. From the very first ten seconds of the first game, Kratos is quiet, humbled and somber.. tortured by past mistakes and unable to find a way out. Everything that followed stemmed from a hurt man who was never allowed to come to terms with his mistakes, and instead was surrounded by people who betrayed him at every turn and intentionally stoked his rage. Fun fact, actually. The PS2 case for the original first game has the quote: "Whom the Gods would destroy, they first make mad." The Gods of Olympus intentionally tried to destroy him and break his spirit.
@trugaming11 ай бұрын
I didn’t play the OG games but hearing that.. i wonder if he yelled a lot or whatever to simply get by back then, to serve and survive and 2018 started to showcase the side of regret and whatnot, showing a very different side to him after his greek endeavours
@Terralventhe11 ай бұрын
@@trugaming So without going into major spoilers, even before Kratos cut the deal with Ares, Zeus and the Gods were screwing him over. In Ragnarok he mentions his brother Deimos, for example. Deimos was taken as a child just because Zeus heard a prophecy that one of his bastards would kill him, assumed it was Deimos and took him to the underworld. Even before the first game starts, canonically, Kratos spends 10 years in service of the gods and Athena, begging them to take the memory of his crimes away. In the end he gets "lol you didn't read the fine print" from Athena and then cursed to not even be able to end his own life to make the pain stop. Him screaming a lot honestly only starts after that point, where he literally has nothing left to lose and Zeus is actively trying to murder him. His only options are to fight back or be tortured in hell forever. I'd be pretty enraged too.
@androkguz10 ай бұрын
I would argue that the GOW4 version is better because it makes the depth of the originals true. Otherwise, it can honestly be read as a bunch of tragedy porn. Loss without lessons. A world of evil gods torturing evil men and evil just fighting more evil. In the originals, violence is actually played for laughs very often.

@@Terralventhe there's a lot of tragedy in Greek mythology, but Ulises does come back home. Hercules is rewarded. Aquiles wins the war. Etc. There's usually an obvious lesson to the tragedy too. Although, there's also Edipo...

39:58-44:49 The ending of the Valhalla DLC is so powerful and hope-bringing. 😊 The years in the making of Kratos’ stories gave us a truly gripping experience in the most epic and explorative proportions. Kratos has come a long way from being the Ghost of Sparta to becoming the kind of god we now know him to be today. The way he confronted his younger self shows it. In one entire life he once lived, he was a great Spartan who sold his soul to Ares, the original God of War from the world of Greece. A vengeful warrior who sought the power to avenge his family’s death. The new God of War who went so far as to change the course of his fate to bring an end to Zeus, King of the Gods, for his betrayal. A feared killer on a great and brutal warpath to end the reign of Olympus, only at the cost of the world falling into chaos. And now, in a brand new life, Kratos becomes better. He raised Atreus and taught him how to survive, made new friends and comrades along the way, and freed the Nine Realms (now the Eight Realms) from Odin’s tyranny and madness. Therefore, he is redeemed and born anew. Kratos has finally mastered himself, accepted himself, and come to terms who he is and what he can be for the better part of the future. Not only for himself, but also for everyone else. He is now more than a God of War. Taking Pandora’s inspiring words of wisdom to heart, Kratos is ready to become someone who brings hope. Someone who leads and fights with something so pure as that “when all else is lost.” Kratos is now… a God of Hope. 😌

This DLC definitely concludes Krato's original Saga with his downfall and redemption that every hardcore fan wanted. This new chapter definitely hit hard for me. When I was younger I did horrible things that I can't forget and I've accepted. Seeing Kratos struggle to become better and find hope gave me inspiration for my own life. I wasn't destined to be a horrible person and it thanks to all of my new friends and family that helped push forward through my own Valhalla after a decade. I'm glad this story never stopped giving me hope to always be better...

I really appreciate how what Kratos went through in Ragnarok and then in this DLC is so representative of what so many of us normally feel too. Kratos spent ALL of Ragnarok preaching, "Your past does not determine your future. You can be better. You can do bad then and good now. You can change, you can seek redemption,"......... but he clearly still doesn't feel that way about himself. And how true is that in general? How many of us are willing to extend a level of grace and understanding to others that we're not willing to extend to ourselves? Kratos needed to go on that journey of realizing that he is not, in fact, the only unforgivable POS in the universe. He too can change and be better and overcome who he was. I hope that maybe Kratos gets one more series of game (but not more than that or trying to drag his story out will probably start having diminishing returns). But if that ends up not being the case, then this was a fantastic spot to let his story end.

i honestly think that the devs may not make another game that’s fully like about him - i feel like he could show up maybe later during Atreus’ journey - i think the devs could go down that route. I don’t really want another game for Kratos - how this ended is perfection

honestly i think the next game won’t have so much to do with Kratos now. This DLC game us closure on him in a way. We are happy with him there and the devs know this - so i think it’ll actually be Atreus focused and him figuring out his stuff with being Loki since we got little bits but never saw him fully flourish into it!
