Reminds me of Miyamoto Musashi - "It's better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war". Thorfinn has the capability of violence, of being a ruthless man but it's his choice to keep that violence sheathed and choose peace that gives him merit. Thorfinn is what all people should be, there is no honor in dying for your country, because you aren't dying for it, you're dying for politicians, corrupt businessmen, and the higher ups are just telling you that you are dying for your country. With the discussion of Thorfinns idealism in the comments, I think it is important to note from this scene, as the subject of pacifism is brought to the fore through Thorfinn's actions, that Thorfinn is not an absolute pacifist as is evidenced by his willingness to defend Gardar from Snake with the use of force, but maintains a much more understandable stance of conditional pacifism. In other words, he recognizes that in some situations, violence must be used to defend others. I think this adds weight to his words. Thorfinn has developed a pragmatic outlook on communicating and interacting with others based on both his past experiences and the words imparted on him by his father. It is the culmination of two seasons worth of character development, and it was so well done.

They are Norse, English, French, - but they are also from Sigtuna, Gainsborough, Lilles. They don't see someone from outside their circle as inherently human because of this. It's going to take almost 800 years for humanity to realise that as a whole, turning into us. Thorfinn and Vinland Saga are something special man
@Takez0-9 ай бұрын
Some people say that season 1 is better and say thorfinn is weak in season 2, but for me Season 2 is truly philosophical and they don't understand thorfinn's character development and how much he wants to atone for all the sins he has done. This scene is truly great, it describes how thorfinns finally realizes everything and he takes his father's words.

@@adityannair8951 you're really pity, your crisis, gneu gneu I'm so superior, what a horror an idealist statement is silly when it's not cynical but me at least I'm not a kid I'm a big one I have to prove it by judging the 'idealist as simpleton Anyway, the worst thing is that the manga as I said earlier it raises the question of whether it is really possible to eradicate violence in this world and whether or not it is necessary for human evolution thereafter and especially in the current arc and it's not going as well as we would like at least it brings a real philosophical point and a real criticism on an important element in the current world that can manga do, and it completely assumes its moral despite the crises of bcp of cynics who fall into silliness while thinking of moving away from it For you to capture he criticizes violence and denounces how society glorifies it unfairly and that those who abuse it are just in ignorance, they take the path of violence thinking they can seek a goal, a lack but it also poses the question of whether it can be totally eradicated and whether it is necessary for human development Then eradicate not even thorfinn knows that in this world it's almost impossible to deny violence that's why he leaves to colonize vinland To rest on one's achievements and to judge a work without reading all of it is silly You'll understand that when you're 18-20, spend your 12-year-old crybaby emo period jerking off to snk's unidimensional and incoherent characters and you'll start coming out of your room

Such a small and simple line yet it exhibits thousands of meanings. Why do we have to kill each other just to settle our problem and difference? Why not make it just a normal game or wager? Why they need to grab all of innocent people into a war that two old men initiated? It reminds me of Attack on Titan and Vinland Saga's ideology Attack on Titan focus on never-ending cycle of war and humanity's biggest flaws while Vinland Saga is to break the cycle of war and be a better person. One is realistic, One is idealistic. But both them have exceptional meaning.

Because back then you could conquer the land and expand your kingdom and become rich beyond belief and be a legend and hero to your people who will flourish in new land. Because the threat of violence stops other kingdoms/countries from walking all over you or slowly spreading unwanted ideology throughout your land and locking you into an inferior position if you become dependant on their workers. Because in a conflict of wills, if one side is too stubborn and the other doesn't want them to get their way, it can only then escalate to some form of physical confrontation to ensure side A gets their way and side B doesn't.
