Many thanks, yes, you can check things that might not be apparent from an online listing for a start! I have used both, but the main problem with brazing rod is that you can't use it in boilers as it will dezincify. Less of a problem with silver solder. Many thanks for watching!

@BensWorkshop Hi Ben, the BSA maintenance kit is lovely - looks great with the engine - I was displaying it the weekend before last and I had a total disaster - 2 and a half hours tugging on that rope - it ran for a few minutes after about an hour or so, then a few seconds, but once I'd spotted that the head gasket was leaking I finally threw in the towel. I'd replaced the original head gasket with some new head gasket material - I didn't like the look of it when it arrived, but I figured I'd use it anyway - it was terrible stuff!!! Once I'd got the thing back to base I had it in my head that I'd bought some proper gasket material once upon a time, so I went searching and finally found a small piece of proper gasket materiel (the unsafe stuff), so I cut a new one and fitted it, but the darn thing still wouldn't run. I eventually found a couple of other issues - the choke wasn't closing fully (or more to the point, it was slipping back open a bit once you'd pulled it closed, so it wasn't drawing fuel up the pipe from the tank - I already knew that the needle on the carb had previously been damaged and it's a bit of a digital setting because of that, so when I spotted that it wasn't drawing fuel, I richened the mixture a little, and then as soon as it started, it would stop immediately because there was too much fuel. I'll check it again before I put it away for the winter (need my bench space back).
