this is actually a pretty nice technique. personally i had trouble finding a good sounding multiband plugin for phasing purpose and was never really happy with the results because of lacking control. I'll definitely try this out and experiment with different phasing curves. this has some real potential. thank you for sharing this. you are one of the few people who really go deep into the details of production and try to find new ways for solving problems. have a good one my friend !

Great video. It has a slightly different flavour to Saturn2 multiband process and when pushed to the extremes, it sounds a lot like Kilohearts Phase Disperser. Overall I think it sits somewhere between the two, particularly when used in Extreme mode with depth at 50-100%.

Nice video :)! I've been using FreeformPhase for a while now it really seems to be the best solution. It is in fact free, only the GUI resizing is disabled in the free version, which of course isn't a real issue. It might be that the quality settings are also disabled. Another interesting device is Kilohearts disperser which is not as flexible but lets one choose the note quantized frequency for the phase rotation. But usually, not always though, I tend to go back to FreeformPhase. The only problem with it is that it introduces a ridiculous amount of latency, so bouncing is definitely advised :) BTW love the dark skin for Ableton you're using!

No, phase does not affect frequency. They are independent parameters of a wave.

Hello from Munich, just watched your video above, and somehow I am a little confused. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I thought phase alignment is important, only in the area where the kick and the first bass are overlapping, to make sure there's no phase cancellation boosting the lows. To make the transients of bass 2 and 3, sound clear, are multi band tools like TransX or MTransient MB in use, only to move the bands to the sweet spot. Whats behind changing the phase of bass 2 & 3? Phase alignment is important but it is not what we are doing here. This is a different process. I personally like to phase align my kick to my bassline and not the other way around.

this method of phasing is applied in the sound design process to get a better sounding bass. after you've finished your bass and get it to sound how you like. you do the phase alignment with the kick for the bass note(s) that are overlapping with the kick. you do this to prevent phase cancelation of the lower frequencies. greetings from Hamburg

no PHA979 is a phase allignment plugin, it only modifies the fundamental frequency & does not create the needed phase shift to get your bassline processed...

that might be the case actually, but you can clean that up in the resampling phase of the bass creation.
