Ahh... Now I see. So the soldiers in Bataan had been issued with Gas-trap Garands since these were produced between 1936 to 1940? Or it's a combination of both Gas-trap and later version Garands?

Agreed, ten rounds just makes more sense. Not to mention, the recoil would be significantly reduced.
