I completed the first few stages through mastery, and the last 5 by raw xp grind. I can say that in the beginning I was very excited and motivated to get the tank, but when I eventually got the tank I just didn't want to play it. I played the game so much that I feel forced to take a break, I got so tired of playing WoT that when I tried to play after finishing the marathon I just yolo for no reason, like I became a shell of my past self. Before the marathon I was always paying attention into every game, analyzing it to become a better player and whatnot, but when I had to play more games because of the limited amount of time to get the tank, it stopped becoming enjoyable. It is safe to assume that even if they release a BZ-176 killer, I won't play for the marathon. Its unhealthy game time that you need to have to complete this marathon, and for this reason I don't recommend people try to complete this marathon like I did. In the end, it's a scummy tactic made to tire you and pay for the tank.

I had scheduled my time in preparations for the marathon to set my mind on the right track for it. Then, I started with doing basic calculations of required exp and my average on my t8 premiums, I figured out I could get it 90% cheaper if I did 27 battles per day. I've completed stage 9 on October 12 and bought it. Looking back, it was a little to many battles per day, more than 3 hours of play daily is a lot, normally I don't play everyday and rarely more than 10-15 battles, but at least I played with my favorite premiums and it wasn't that bad, because I didn't have to do these insane mastery stages.

I'm a university student, however my university was shut down due to a once a century flood so I had a lot of time to work on the Marathon. I quit the game around 2 years ago as I was basically killing myself trying to play it. (I was averaging 3K wn8, but playing like that made me want to die, now I don't care about my stats, makes the game much more fun). Even with all the free time and a new found enjoyment for the game, I only got up to 70% off on the Grom.
@christiancolombo8722 күн бұрын
The thing with that maratons is that the progress is not linear, when you are at 70% in reality you are at half of the path. I didnt even try to complete the maraton, because the amount of experiencia required in the last missions is insane, and also didnt want to spend tons of credits playing tier 9 or 10.

I completed the marathon using only XP and playing mostly Tier 6 and 7 (I have about 50 of them or so) and I really enjoyed playing these tiers, it was very refreshing especially since everyone, including less experienced players, were trying to go via the mastery path making Tier 9 and 10 unplayable for me. Being mostly among Top 5, XP points nicely stacked up as well as free experience since after victory I switched to another tank. I also added one hour of Tier 8 premiums with credit boosters per day just to earn some cash. I am pensioner so I have more time than the others although I believe that most people will have 15-20 EUR to pay for pixels on the screen which is called Grom. But I considered it a challenge and after several years of no marathon I welcomed the challenge. But please only one marathon per year, because there are just too many events - Waffen, now Mir, Onslaught, Steel hunter, then I have to grind normal tanks, earn credits with premiums ... and spending more than 2-3 hours per day is too much for me. There are other things in life than tanks! Spamming one battle after another at the stage 9 and 10 is a reality ... and that is why I enjoyed playing mostly solo. I do not have to compete with my friends for the same positions and combinations of light + TD does not work on every map ... also you do not have to wait once you or your friend die for him to appear back in the garage ...
@gijsvandergracht800011 күн бұрын
I used the QB video to figure out how much time it would cost me and also set myself a goal. I knew I would not do stage 10, also knew 1 day I could not play. I know my avg exp and set out to do exactly what I wanted. I completed only 3 stages with Mastery, which saved me a tiny bit of time, but I made sure to keep track of my exp requirements every day. Got the Grom for 7 eur, as planned, had fun while grinding (I saved up 5x missions for stock tanks and played premiums for credits). I grinded through Ho-Ri 2, 1 and 3 during the marathon. So clear goals, proper and honest planning, and I have no regrets and lots of fun while doing it. Also, I'm VERY happy with the Grom, I love it. You deal 3 shots of damage, already a good game ;p
@pray4sacrifice22 күн бұрын
Got Grom by grinding, it took around 60-80 hours. My "experience cows" were T-34-85M, Nomad and K-2. It was quite enjoyable getting 1,4-1,6k exp a few times, the last 10k though --- the most annoying part of the marathon that took 4 HOURS (normally it would take 1h20min). I like the fact that I got the tank for free (не витративши ні копійочки) but 15 losses IN A ROW is not something I want to be a part of.
@andreasb926022 күн бұрын
As everybody was on the same mission ( damage ) because it was nearly always the same, WG made sure that we had to grind xp. Marathons should be like the personal Missions. The flood of tds was insane. They could even let the marathon be only for tier1 - 4. That would get the low tiers envolved or even have 2 Marathons: 1 low tier for Styles and minor rewards like Equipment and a high tier for the tank. That would get the less experienced players to have an opportunety to at least get something because not everybody has the time and the cash to get something in the end.

I second most if not all of iyouxin's ideas here. Just throwing an idea out there, but I'd love to see a third option. Taking note of iyouxin's ideas as the masteries, second can remain as base XP but perhaps at a reduced value; and finally third option could be his platoon idea. It could be, get 20k base XP or as a platoon, get 30k base XP together. Say you get 1000 base, your platoon mate gets 1000, so 2000 base XP towards the mission. Wargaming often promote using platoons and inviting your mates into the game to play together. It makes perfect sense as a business.

So ive played the first 8 stages with mastery mission in the first 4 days with around 30-40 battles per day, after that I was just tired of the stupid grind for being the best player in the game and always focus on your own dmg (so no light tanks). For stage 9 and 10 I just said fck it i wanna play whatever I want again and dont care about marathon anymore. So I played with friends (which I missed the most during the first 8 stages) and grinded ep just by playing the game. I agree with you that there needs to be more tank variety in the mastery mission but the commitment mission should be a steady grind that you can do every battle with every tank without even thinking about it and I believe just an ep requirement is the best way to do that.

Marathon already has it in the word that you are not supposed to feel enjoyment while you grind it. I needed a week, the first 5 stages are very doable with mastery missions, the 7th aswell, but I wasn't playing too well that day. So I did everything via commitment missions from stage 6 onward. My personal rating is 10100. Edit: You definitely feel the marathon. The amount of people who yolo in for one shot of damage just to get to the next battle faster was special.

I totally agree with the damage missions getting stale, but IIRC in the past there was some spotting missions on the marathon which caused the mm to have an overdose of lights trying to do the missions which was not fun for anyone, so im not sure if adding spotting/kill missions would be the right approach. I finished the marathon myself in 3 days and 195 battles, first 8 stages with mastery and the last 2 with commitment, always enjoyed playing for missions like 260, 279 and the older marathons, so i was happy to see the marathon back in this form 😊 gave me a "reason" to play randoms again even if it didnt last too long.

For me, I got it though XP only and I had to grind 90k in 48 hours which was a big grind but possible for me. I did enjoy it even tho i aswell experienced the rather "tryhard" or aggressive way of the games with more gold rounds shot and way more suicidal and fast rounds than usual. People pressure themselves and everyone wants to either go big or try again asap which leads to those rather frustrating games. I had in those last 48 hours a total of 6 ammoracks from full hp to withstand :D The initial design of the marathon is alright imo. The problem I can think of with too diverse objectives is that you might need many different tanks or even platoons so some ppl might not have the tanks or people to optimize it and are straight up forced to go for the tidius grind which is also okay but if you are good enough to be capable for the skilled missions (unlike me) but then get held back by not having a specific tank that makes it possible or easier I can imagine its just a question of what is more fair to everyone. Obviously the Marathon is supposed to be hell of a grind since they dont want to gift the tank away for free and they want you to spend a high amount of time into the game for it as exchange either way but I do think that is just fair. The only thing I rly would have loved to know more in advance is when it is actually happening so you are able to prepare as example making those days clear or even book in vacation days if you wanna go full nuts on the grind for it.

You are right with your suggestions but you have to remember, WG has made the calculations already and they have come to the conclusion that making it stressful is the best way to make money. Since the formula works for them right now, they won't risk it by making it more enjoyable for the players and risking that all the people who buy the tank to skip the grind instead completes it and don't spend a single cent.

I am not very skillful player but with Somua it's more or less good results - average 1650 damage and more then 6000 record battles. On Marathon was do many battles when I was able do only 600 -1000 damages!!! Short conclusion after marathon- my win rate Is down, wtr rating down, emotional I frustrating and will so some brake from tanks now

Well, a Marathon should more or less be a side Hustle - enjoy playing and once its over decide if you will pay less for that Tank, or dont get it. The goals are made this way too... I only grinded one of the early ones actively, it was inky possible because of the xp Grind Missions, so i would say they can stay. Personally i am Not a fan of forcing classes(stun, damage over distance) or platoons... At least for such Marathon - its Not a Sprint after all;) Some changes in mastery requirements may be nice, but currently i would say theay are well balamced so that good Players wont have it much easier than grinding players - a good Thing imo... Maybe add some with support damage... Or medals... In General hard to make untoxic requirements - damage is probably the fairest one... Maybe make it a % of your own hitpoints instead of any regard to the team... But only in victories? Adding victories as requirememt seems to be too cut oit for good Players though ... Hard topic for me to theorize on

The problem is that there is no point in going through the skill, because in most cases, you will still pass the experience before. For example mission 9, you do either 30 times first place in damage or 43000 experience, there is no way you can do 30 times before experience, because 30 battles with first place, that's roughly 35000, considering that you just can't be first all the time, no matter how skilled you are (which this video proves), you will earn 43,000 anyway (it is clear that this is just a wargaming calculation to deceive you)

Marathon is crazy. Imagine that average player has like 800-900xp average. Oh, that's with premium account, so more like 550xp, about half of the battles are lost, you know. 260kXP ... only 470 battles, or 47 battles a day. Yeah, playing 30 battles a day is doable, but it's extremely tiring when you have job, some duties ... basically it means dedicate all your time to work, sleep, game, repeat. Imagine that your job requires some thinking and there's no time to relax. My solution to marathon is to get like to level 5-6 and buy a tank if I decide I want it. Funny is that we, mortals, cannot trust unicums in rating the tank. I remember when most of them agreed that bourrasque is trash due to bad gun and awful aim time. Yes, but that matters only for 2nd shot at range, it has great accuracy on the move with IRM and bond vstab. Some rated ShTPK or Kpz07rh as bad tanks that are hard to play. Yes they are, kpz07rh is still fun, rewarding and i guess above average (well, getting tier 10 mountain pass and many other maps sux)

I fixed the marathon by getting 40% discount and saying "F that, I'm buying it now" after just 3 days. 🤣 Also, this video is every dy for me in WoT, lol.

I wasnt even thinking about skill way in marathon, because if you focusing on mission, you will probably fail. I was just playing as good as i could and when i was having good battles, my averige xp per battle was 1k xp(with loses too), whats pretty damn good. Edit: i think i spend 30 hours, but maybe i spend little bit more, around 35 hours...but i was just playing for fun, killstealing if possible for more xp and it was working perfectly.

1k is unlikely especially if you have premium account or you're playing in premium tanks (I think) because the "base xp" calculation in the session stats includes premium benefits but the marathon doesn't

@@sizskiedude i am talking about base xp, pure base xp was 1k if i was having good session.
@fouzekbomba93623 күн бұрын
@@sizskiesimple math, you need cca 260k xp...10k xp per hour(if i was having good battles). 260k:10k= 26 hours...real hours i spend is around 35.

The discussion especially towards the end really is what was wrong with that marathon. Having all the missions be mostly be top damage is just so bad design as it just makes everyone overly aggressive and competing against each other and basically yolo to either get most damage or at least end it quick. Nothing is more frustrating than the main quest not getting any progress whatsoever and youre basically forced to just do the exp route. This was by far the most boring marathon.
