Just watched his just after doing glitterbeard and after a whole week meeting people naturally and comically in the game, so I just have to say. That's what I love to see in this game. Sea of Thieves also doesn't mean Sea of War/Murdering and thieves can be friends too (and"thiefing" together), the game is full of people, and all these players are humans too, some humans we just don't like, or are just horrible people, but some of them, the ones that usually starts with playing a song together or just firing fireworks to each other, these are the ones you're gonna have the most amazing and awesome adventures, robbing and fighting and just having fun all together. Really loved this video, there are so many jerks in the world, but we also need to remind ourselves there are amazing humans everywhere too

Exactly. Pvp is fun in spurts but the real fun is in the interactions with other people. The pvp only crowd are going to hate me for saying this but the alliance flag is there to remind players that there's fun in being friendly with other players. My favorite time doing the Fort of The Damned was in a naturally formed 4 ship alliance where we were all doing it for special event achievements and didn't really care who turned what loot in. You also never know what antics someone might be up to. If you find someone collecting a lot of kegs, find out why before attacking because they might be setting up to blow up an island. Finding someone like that is a good reminder why Sea of Thieves is called a sandbox game.

Yes! Some of the best and most memorable moments haven’t involved any fights or thievery. Isn’t it interesting that “We shall sail together” & “Becalmed” are both about camaraderie? This game has so much potential and not all of it has to be toxic encounters with salty sailors. My husband is actually “training” a young Buccaneer who started out trying to attack him but got schooled in the art of war on the seas. After a few chats, he started playing with my husband constantly and I can tell DH is feeling good about having a little protégé.

I would love a campaign mode for the tale tales and adventures. Reset the map back to year 1, and play through all the the different events in game to unlock tall tales and adventures, devs could even use the sea dog tavern as a base, and have DeMarco alive for alive as your representative to talk to, only to find out he'd been murdered and go on a quest to discover his killer. Go through the adventures to bring the sea forts from the sea of the damned, watch golden sands be destroyed, fight the shrouded ghost with Merrick, help him rebuild golden sands and save him from the dark brethren! And in this tall tale mod, you can bring your friends using your captain ships if the server has free space for it. Obviously gold, faction rep and commendation grinding is turned off, that's for adventure mode, but having a place for new players to hang out and actually learn the game would only help the game.

Almost certain the game checks at least a 2-map square radius around outposts before spawning players at it. Basically, if there is a player within two map squares of an outpost, it won't spawn anyone at that outpost until they're gone. This is to ensure that someone can't get immediately spawn camped like you tried to demonstrate at the beginning. At the very least it favors spawning people at unoccupied outposts over ones with people already on them. In the almost 200 hours I've played this game, I've never spawned at an outpost with another random player. I can only imagine the chaos that would ensue if a ton of players all spawned at the same outpost at the same time. It would just be a battle-royale.

@@JonBardcore It definitely performs some kind of check, that much I know. It has a clear bias for spawning people at empty outposts. Not saying it will never spawn a player at an outpost with another player on it, but it will always try its best not to, unless it doesn't have any other option.

This is why we need not just safer seas but the option for a pve-only SHARED server. How fun would it be to be on a server with 4-5 other crews who just want to team up and have some fun? I’ve done the 4-crew alliance before and it’s a blast. We need more of this. Sea of Thieves would be the biggest game on every platform if they would give us options like that.

I have a great tale from yesterday, too bad that i'm not a content creator and i have just a tiny bit of footage. Everything started with a fof, and a brig trying to roll up on our duo sloop. Due to a series of random events we had all our loot on a harpoon rowboat atop of hidden spring, i sent off my crew mate to sell while i fought the brig to dlow them down, by the time i sank, he was selling loot and the brig was left guessing. Then we met that brig again, and a second sloop facilitated our parley, then we allied together and chased another brig that was doing a FotD, during the chase a third sloop joined us, so the brig had the rest of the server on their tail. They managed to sell off their Reaper Chests so we gave up the chase, and in the end even the second brig joined us for Glitterbeard. 5 ships, 10 people on Plunder Valley, all organically through the game. This has been probably the best session i ever had, and the most unlikely series of events

My friend and I were joined together by two extra sloops in an alliance yesterday. Our three-men posse devised a plan that my friend and I would stack FotD, and the other two crews would tackle Fort of Fortune. We had each other's backs (complete strangers may I add) and at the end, a bigger payout was made because of friendship. Let this be a lesson for the gold-coveting pirates at sea! You want bountiful amounts of gold? Thievery doesn't always equal gold; but friendships do- fills you with a golden heart and big piggy bank. Diplomacy ain't dead just yet!!!!!

That was pretty wholesome. I also had the thought of something like a Skill Based Match Making but that's incredibly hard to do the less people engage in fights since it's rather optional to do so, unless you're being chased to no end. It's hard with people who avoid fights to gather the data for a good match making. And if they barely fight at all and are matched together due to it, Rare might as well get over it and introduces a PvE-Mode because on such a Server with all Noobs or Swabbies nobody would pick a fight. And honestly a PvE-Mode could actually bring me back on to the game. Maybe the PvE-Mode could have a bit more NPCs and random events so more fights against NPCs would happen with the potential of you losing your loot. Still gives you the thrill, while you don't have to worry that a crew has nothing better to do than chasing you 6x accross the map for a handful of coin. In exchange, the payout of PvE Server loot is a good share less than that of PvP, so there would be motivation to participate on a PvP Server for financial gain and/or certain achievements. I know, I know. PvE in SoT is a hot take. But most engagements are with players beyond the 1k hours mark anyways and if someone like that wants to the noobs to participate in PvP then the only reason for it is so that they have a greater chance of encountering a noob to sink at the cost of the noobs experience with the game. There are channels that respect their opponent, however my experience was that there is absolutely no respect for me and my journey ahead (like F the Piratecode). There are many people out there who do not have the time to play hours and hours without end, who also pursue other activities and won't and don't want ever catch up with those 1k+ hour players. And I think after so many seasons and people still joining and the extreme differences between experienced and new players and the lack of time and motivation to deal with people who seek nothing but your misery, a PvE-Mode wouldn't be such a bad idea by now. Yes, the game is not called Sea of Friends, but it's also not exactly called Sea of Pirates, and not Sea of mindless Murders, but the latter is what it felt like to me. Just my thoughts about this matter.
@Canadiantoejam
@Canadiantoejam Жыл бұрын
The only way PVE would make sense is if there was no gold and rep. Instead introduce skill based match making based on how often you engage in PVP and gold/rep per hour. PVE would ruin the game, even if you only get 25% loot and rep. There wouldn't be that fear of losing everything and there would be no friendly encounters with other players. You wouldn't come across someone getting attacked by a Kraken, you wouldn't be able to help them or third party them. The game would be quite dead without these interactions. Force yourself into these interactions, force yourself into PVP situations. It's just loot, it's just a game. You're not losing any and you're gaining new experiences and developing your skill. Instead of running away, fight back, feel that rush, lose all your loot and feel that defeat. Sail up to other ships and ask to start an Alliance. the game is based on these player interactions. There's a reason everyone can see world event's, there's a reason there's community events that force people to interact with each other. You're bored of the game because you're not playing it to its full potential.

Yeah, an SBMM for Adventure would be tough. But maybe servers for Pirate Legends vs non-Pirate Legends? I just feel like sometimes we don't give enough grace to newer players before throwing them into the fire and churning them out the other side. Very well written, by the way!
@Linkario86
@Linkario86 Жыл бұрын
@@Canadiantoejam PvE doesn't mean you have to remove other players at all. I rather had the idea of selective coop in mind with PvE. Other players can still sail the seas with you, but can't damage you or your ship. You can group up to fight NPC Ships and take on greater challenges with other people and I think such positive interaction is much more likely that way. You may be even more likely to find some friends to take on PvP, and some teammates to play with can be a huge driving factor since you don't have to take all that load on your own. A defeat with friends is much less frustrating, than feeling all alone and the target of everyone. You also don't need to play every aspect of the game to enjoy it. I played other multiplayer games for years where I did not play every aspect of those games regularly. However, SoT is the only game I ever returned fully despite playing it to its full potential. since I basically had no choice. There were some positive interactions, I have Glitterbeard, but 99 out 100 times the first reaction is shoot, chase, sink, kill - not even necessarily steal. And no, not even Pirates sank ships that often. And I mean I get it to some degree. But the lenghts people go to for a handful of coin is often beyond any reasoning. The community also contains of a not insignificant number of toxic people who just want to sink you, while they do not engage in the Hour Glass PvP because apparantly that's too fair.

7:08 Wait, what?! Can anyone confirm this? I never noticed even the slightest difference between raising/lowering a damaged or undamaged Capstan. I was sure the only thing Capstan damage does is make so less people can help raise it, because there's less handles. But a single person shouldn't have any use for the second handle on the sloop, as they would only ever operate one anyways. PS: My notifications are telling me you replied to my deleted comment Jon, so in case you see this I'll just say it here. I figured out it was the spinal costume already so I deleted my old comment. Thanks for telling me though. Now the íntro also makes sense as no matter how often I rewind, I hear you saying "I've been on this spiRal sketeons ship for close to an hour now." And I was thinking "What the hell is a spiral skeleton?" xD

I don't call an adventure good if I don't meet a few friends along the way. Every time I play I look for a ship to form an alliance with (with the exception of reapers) and I feel more brave to conquer the seas. @@JonBardcore “why do you need a captain ship?” I don’t know. Why do you treat your hours in Red Dead Redemption 2 like it’s a real thing? I feel like the generation of gamers are so desensitized due to shooter. When I play this game I like to imagin that im actually a ships captain and that every choice I make decides the success or failure of what every goal I’m trying to achieve. But when I play with younger players “it’s just a game” “we can just do it again, it’s not like we spend 5 hours getting several million that I just lost for us by agroing a reaper 5” It may be just a game, but there is no magic for these younger generations! They only see it as a game of numbers and the ships as glorified sea ubers!
