I highly recommend Rise of the Ronin for Assassin’s Creed fans…

Rise of the Ronin has been out for a few months now and for some reason it wasn't really on my radar in the build up to its release despite it having almost everything I love in a game and sharing similarities with some of my favorite games of all time. Like Ghost of Tsushima and the Assassin's Creed series. The game was receiving quite a lot of negativity on it's launch and while it does have some issues I still had an incredible time with it and recommend it not only to Assassin's Creed fans but in general.

My next suggestion for assassins creed fans is shadow of war. One of the best games ever made. Came out in 2017 and will not be outdated anytime soon. Graphics still look great on 4k hdr 10 and of course the gameplay is amazing

If you like this setting, absolutely check out Like A Dragon Ishin. Takes place in the same time period and location, has a lot of the same historical characters and storyline, and the combat is excellent. And it’s a Yakuza game, which if you haven’t played any of those I highly highly recommend in general. Engaging worlds, really well written, surprisingly serious and emotional, dramatic main stories with memorable characters, comedic side stories, and a ton of optional content. The last 2 entries with Ichi are great, albeit turn based combat (as someone who generally prefers real time I came to love these as well) but especially the first several games in the series that follow Kiryu (real time combat) they all take place in the same regions of Japan each game so when you move on to the next one it feels like you really know that town. The Judgement spinoffs are also fantastic if you like Detective Noir style stories as well. Anyway, that’s my rant on Yakuza. Lol. Never thought I’d like them but I binged them all in a row last year and anyone who likes story driven open world games with great combat, will get really into these. There’s nothing quite like them. But anyway, Ishin is a historical take and is absolutely excellent if you’re into Ghost or Ronan, or the time period in general.

You put this on my radar. I downloaded the demo and I was actually pretty impressed. I agree with others that $70 is probably a bit much for a double A experience, but it's wishlisted and keeping an eye out for that discount.

It’s a shame that People judged this Game solely out of Graphics. Honestly being a Team Ninja Fan I played this Game regardless. It helped that it played similarly to Nioh. I have played Old Ninja Games such as Tenchu and I’m not the kinda person who played this game out to Spite how Assassin’s Creed is Not in Japan. Which was a similar to the criticism with Ghost of Tsushima. Even though Ghost of Tsushima is one of My Top 10 Favorite Games of All Time, I really enjoy Rise of the Rōnin. The Graphics may not be pretty but the Gameplay is Really Fun, however I do agree wait for the Sale to buy if less than $70. Further Note to Assassin’s Creed Shadows, even when people finally got their Japanese Assassin’s Creed it became Universally Mixed Reception. Getting away from Political Controversy aside it wasn’t the Shinobi Fantasy all of us was expecting.

If you liked Yakuza Kenzan, Yakuza Ishin or Way of the Samurai, this is a must. The game does not focus on graphics/eye candy but combat/moves.

I preordered this game and had very few complaints. I loved the gameplay, loved the graphics but most of all, I loved the characters. So many are very loveable. But the bonds did need a bit of work and I wish there was more to the veiled vows and bonds. Like, let me take my friends on the town. Let me take them to the restaurants, lets go out in the field and chill. But there's not much other than they show up at your house a little more often.

RotR has it's flaws but it's also the purest moment fun game I've played this year. I'm just begging Team Ninja to tone down theie approach of layering system upon extraneous system. Their core gameplay is so fun, but they must focus on simplicity to let it shine.

Team Ninja's games don't always have the best art/graphics, but their gameplay is always EXCELLENT, so they should stick to more focused map design where you engage with the super fun combat for 99% of your playtime Probably would've been much better received if this game wasn't open world

Been sating that rise of the ronin and ghost are both going to end up better assassin's creed games than assassin's creed shadows. The reality is that all 3 games lack the "assassin's creed feel" but ultimately shadows lacks social stealth, historical integrity, yasuke can't even climb buildings, and finally there's no modern day in AC Shadows. So at that point, what makes shadows any more assassin's creed than ghost or rise of the ronin?

the combat in Rise of the Roning seems really similar to the one in Nioh, a souls like with combat mechanics based on stamina and techniques... and with a great emphasis in geting weapons and armor with higher numbers and quality.

The combat was great, although some enemies tend to have too much hp and some fights on the hardest difficulty feel very unfair at times, but the stealth was really basic and not interesting, while the AI was almost inexistant I liked the game but I don’t know if I would necessarily recommend it to an AC fan, it was a rather different experience imo

This game simply has a disparity issue. It's the most enjoyable video game you'll probably ever play and be unable to put down when you create your own headcanon (because the game gives you the necessary tools to absolutely make that a possibility) or you will dread playing it if you solely purchase it to be invested in the open world and story. The reason why Rise of the Ronin became one of my favourite games of all time was because I created my character to headcanonically be an expert assassin, unrivalled in combat with the katana, taking pride in myself every time a character mentioned how much of a professional I was, who was on a deeply personal mission looking to put a permanent end to my blade twin whom I literally created to be an actual blood twin that looked exactly like my character with minor changes, who had gone rogue and disobeyed me. I chose and stubbornly stuck with the anti-Shogunate faction and did their dirty work assassinating whomever they assigned and becoming a real fear to the foreigners, choosing deliberately not to wear any piece of foreign clothing and never equipping a single foreign weapon. Because I was allowed this much level of freedom to create my own headcanon I ended up loving this game so much that I was able to easily shrug off any shortcomings and missed opportunities for the entire 80hrs I played - it was genuinely an unforgettable experience. However, I am well aware how badly this would have ended for me had I chosen to ignore the creative aspects of the game and made the bare minimum effort just so I could have gotten on with the narrative.

Bro you have to play ninja gaiden, it's the game that fromsoft cloned several times until they got dark souls right; Wolong is so good, one of my favorites. Nioh is hard, but I only dislike how the dodging works.
