all you need is a bike pump and a little "raft" nosel. could have saved all those grips. could have installed with air too. its so easy.

Very interesting, thanks Coach. Being a science data guy I notice something about the graphs. The round grip may be closer to zero on a number of measures, but it has a bigger standard deviation which may mean more puts just missing. The pistol seems to have the tightest spread, so maybe that's better? The face to path graph in particular shows that some of the biggest misses were with the round grip. :)

I'd rather have the lower standard dev between the two options. Inconsistency in my reads and alignment likely exceed the pistol grip std dev more often than not (i.e. archer, not the arrows).

Interesting timing. I just received the new Golfworks catalog. Those grips are on the cover. I will probably give them a try. I prefer to blow grips on (and off) with compressed air. Saving the grip if I don’t like it.

Greeting Coach Lockey! I have a Ping Fetch putter and just added the Golf Pride Reverse round putter grip to it. I love the feel and I am going to try it on the course either later today or tomorrow. I did hit a few strokes at home and like it. I had to choose between the 3 options and my instincts told me the round would be my best option. You did a very intensive review and testing situation here. My hats off to you on that. You truly went above and beyond. Well done. I noticed right away less pressure . Very very comfortable grip the round one. Thank you for your review. Here to the science of putting and holing more putts!!! P.S. I tried the new reverse taper round grip on todays round of golf. The results were great. One guy I was playing with told me " I might have to ask you to putt for me ! " He didn't realize I was playing with a new grip. I think I will keep the secret :). A little off topic, but I’ve been struggling with my feel for a while. I decided to try Coach’s prayer style pencil grip ( before resorting to the claw in despair) and it’s honestly been night and day. I’m not sure what it is about it but my feel is better, my distance control is back and I’m not stressing when I get over the ball. Lockey Army for life, thanks Coach!

Great review, Coach. Have to confess though, I was watching and found myself given to several moments of why isn't he using a footpump and masking tape to attach those grips, to preserve them! I felt the pain of cutting each one off.😱Back to the focus though: the data doesn't lie and it's great to see it shared like this. I would never have thought of such a design change.

Great review- love that you did this with a SAM and got your Stato to analyse the data. I would love to try one but have a LAB putter with builtin forward press in the grip so kinda stuck with it (but love it anyway). Your best video in ages for me.

I used an Odessey grip for part of last year. I then changed to an EVENROLL pistol grip (no it doesn't flare at the bottom ) but for my putting it made my Odessey 11 mallet really work!!!

Really interesting. I've got the Flat version on a putter and liked it much more than the other two. It all depends on how you grip for which one you will like more, but I'd definitely advise finding somewhere you can try them all rather than ordering online as they are all very different from each other.

I am happy with my putter and havent changed putter or even its grip in 30 years or more. ( its a pga t-line putter.) Cannot buy original putter grip so would be loath to change to any new grip in case i then perform worse. This putter especially improved my long range putts though always have been good putter.(The grip is still ok and not shiny). Good.lick with your testing of grips.

I switched to the pistol reverse taper simply because my stock grip was janky and I saw these on the shelf. I love golf pride everything. In just putting alone, I've dropped 3 or 4 shots on average.

Great review and love the graphs. Data vs Feel. Your response at the end does make me wonder since the Pistol grip FEELS the best, would you be able to get that grip dialed in due to the feel factor. The more you like a putter, the better you putt. One of those lost factors that doesn't show up in the lab vs in the field applications.

All those data are great, BUT for example Face to path has to not be taken too seriously, i worked in Thailand with the best fitter and saw how they fit the best Thai putter, his path is very inside out, however his consistency is incredible, when you look at his graph its a copy past stokes after strokes ! Then the fitter his here to adjust the putter to deliver the best roll. Putting is such a uniq part of the game and it is so subjective, meaning that use whatever you feel confortable first and give you control on your ball, that’s it ! The rest will be fixed by the fitter. The only major thing to think about the putter is the hozle actually, need to have one fitting your putting.

I love when someone comes up with an idea that goes against the “norm”. Like not using a backswing. I would definitely want to try these out. Just like I tried the medium size grips for all my other clubs because I didn’t like the skinny feel of the “normal” grips.

Hi. Really interesting. I chose the Flat grip as I was replacing a SuperStroke. After 4 rounds now I would not go back as regardless of the results (which are actually better) this thing just feels good and improves my confidence.

Try putting facing and looking at the hole, and refine practice to hitting at a tee. Your hands will magically hit ball to target, it’s like darts, throwing baseball, basically every sport you do.

LAB golf already perfected the putter (and grip). I put the LAB “forward push” grip on my TaylorMade spider and I’m draining putts like never before.

I have an Edel putter fit for me a decade ago but never liked the round grip..spent hundreds of dollars searching for a better feel and results 😢...nothing worked until I put on their newest round 'though heavier grip..best face action...they did research for many years and found that the round grip causes people to be most attentive to blade/face orientation...when you you hold the putter and have the hands slightly do opposed twisting..the face remains the same as the setup...the holder of the putter is the key...🎉🎉🎉Stressdr

I have done this already, I cut a hole in the top of the grip to reverse it on my putter. It works great on short putts, but I can’t get the distance right on long putts. Getting the ball close to the hole on long putts is my main concern. It does work though.

Interesting presentation. Before deciding on a grip though, I would suggest working on your stroke to eliminate the “outside in” path. A reverse grip is a band aid. not a solution to fix the problem.

The wider dispersion with the round could have been a bit of tiredness affecting your concentration, maybe? I think that was a brilliant piece of work with the resources available. I want to try them, but I can see you can’t make easy assumptions about which is best. Just need some local pros to get some on test putters for us!

Great video review. Funny how the grip that you felt would win did not but there is something to be said about the level of comfort and confidence you had with the pistol grip. I imagine the 3 designs are meant to cover the vast number of putting grips (left hand low, pencil, etc)

Nice. I've been using the reverse taper grip from Super Stroke for more then two years now and it helped me quite a bit. So for Odyssey saying it's been never seen before is kinda false statement.

Looking at the comments dismissing your “data”, I now understand why this isn’t more common in the community - and it is a SHAME. These old geezers need to beat it, and can keep succumbing to all the BS marketing in the industry. And it is a SHAME some of the community is not more receptive to data based evidenced. Good for you Coach Lockey. As a relatively new golf enthusiast, i am absolutely befuddled by how much of the community still speaks in anecdotes and “feel”, ignoring the power of data and sample size. I’ve really given it a lot of thought and sought out more data-focused creators or even bloggers, and it has been so hard to find, to say the least (please share your thoughts on why you think that is, if you have any. Like i said I’m new)… Things like people reviewing clubs, drivers, and talking about performance after observing 5 shots on the range, or, god forbid, 1 shot against 1 shot on a tee box. Even the creators who do make some half baked nod to the importance of data don’t seem to sufficiently honor it with high enough sample size…. There are so many external variables that sample size is the ONLY thing that will help control them. So many content creators on YT (where i have learned most of my golfing knowledge over these past months) will just do like 5 vs 5 sample size shot comparisons on the SIM, sometimes 10. I know it makes for boring content but the point of these videos isn’t purely leisure, but information. My only suggestion Coach Lockey would be to really lean into this differentiation. 9:50 Don’t gloss over this data, this is where others fall short - they don’t spend the time collecting it. It won’t make for a good thumbnail obviously, but flash it at some point in the first 20 seconds to entice people who are here for information and learning, (and say it’ll be explained later, or something). I say this bc I was about to click away until i scrolled forward and noticed you really did do a proper data collection exercise. Maybe with Bryson’s second win behind us we will finally see the golf industry go through it’s much needed ‘Moneyball’ moment.

Tip: ditch the tape and solvent. Use hair spray and compressed air. Removing the grip takes 5 sec no mess. Hair spray contains super glue but not permanent

Could it be that the lower hand is always dominant. The thicker lower end reduces that dominance compared to the top hand and equalises the pressures involved. Similar, in a way, to what happens when you reverse the hands on a normal grip. Just a thought.

Not sure what your grip is but I think that there should be a second half to the video as follows… buy 2 round grips…1 with approximately the same diameter/thickness as the upper 1/2 of the Reverse Taper Round grip and then another round grip with approximately the same diameter/thickness as the lower 1/2 of the Reverse Taper Round grip. Do the same putting test and compare if the reverse taper was a true improvement versus a round grip. Personally, I would like to see Golf Pride issue a reverse taper that starts out at the same diameter as the typical standard putter grip from Scotty, etc. which is much thinner than the reverse taper grips.

It looks like each grip will cost $28 or so. My favourite putters have pistol grips, and the least favourite is a round Super stroke. I'm not sure of what to get. Maybe I should try the air compressor with the ball inflator tip so as to not ruin the grip.

willing to try anything :)... I don't use any measuring for putting, I only use the travel of the ball and my hand feel. I'm (pure ego here) I am a great putter. Love putting!!! Anywhere on the green!!! I don't know if my path is "right" or if my face angle is correct, or any of that. I've reached a point where I zen out over the putt once I've picked aim, line, break, distance...just rock back and forth and hit it. I get great results, so I don't question it. I'm working on a similar "out of my mind" stroke for all my clubs...cause that's how I think the game should be played.

Yeah I think the biggest thing in putting is just relaxing and feeling what you are doing and looking at the ball right after you hit and observing. This is good for reading greens too.
