Great video, I subscribed, I like you talking through your thinking, and also you aren't thinking too deeply just 2-3 moves ahead and still beating players of this level that is reassuring that around 1800 it is not about seeing 30 moves ahead each turn.

Thanks man! Welcome to the channel! Yeah its usually not necessary to see alot of moves ahead. Much more important to understand the general position and see just the first move!

Haha nobody is calculating 30 moves ahead, not even magnus. That being said, he calculates a lot more than me and I’m about 50 points lower. It’s mostly intuition and gut feeling at this level…maybe a few instances where you have to calculate 5 moves deep. That’s about max for me, trying to calculate 6+ moves ahead is so tough because there’s so many variations you have to consider. That’s twelve total moves!

Thank you! Not sure what you mean when you say he could block with his bishop. On move 26 if he takes my knight I have mate in one with Bf7. Or I could do the same mate in 2 as happend later in the game.

But if you tried the mate in 2 it wouldn’t work because if he took and you played Bg6 Kg8, Qh7 Kf8 , Qh8 he had the move Bg8 to block if I’m correct. What I didn’t say last time was that I am also trying to reach 2000 Elo in chess and I was also 1500 Rated at my peak like you were at the start of your journey and seeing you coming that far really motivated me. I would like to play some daily chess against you if you would also like to

Your opponent plays way to fast in this game for a 10min game and you wisely took your time thinking through the moves. Don't feel bad about that sniper light-square bishop, I made the same mistake in a slightly different way just while watching your game and playing the moves I would have made. I seen Nf7+ early on and the move looked really good, but that sniper bishop would have got me as well as I forgot about that bishop. Even though you got the win here with blacks blunder at the end, that bishop blunder could have easily done you in. So we can all learn from that hopefully. Congrats on the 1800 milestone.

Here’s what I think would work for you 1. Play no more than 2 rapid matches and spend 5 minutes on analysis 2. Learn and play ruy lopez: this is from my personal experience, its easy and solid and guaranteed increase in rating

Forget learning another opening. You've obviously learned some stuff on the way, some endgame positions and theory, some positional ideas in the middlegame, opening theory etc. To get to 1500 and beyond, just bring everything together. If I trade pieces now, does that give me a winning endgame or am I losing? Do I need to keep a rook on the board to offer some drawing chances, can I exchange both and still hold the draw. All of this sort of stuff. It's as simple as that. Anticipate the next position, not react to it. If you're ever like oh, I remember this endgame, it I'd winning for me, that is a lot different to I need to trade this this and this push that pawn and its the position I remember seeing in the book that I read and I know its winning. Does that make sense? Doesn't happen over night though, but simply doing that will get you to 15 16 1700 level easily really. Just takes games and time to change the way of thinking
