Nelson's got an unhealthy obsession with his queen. In my experience, swapping queens off as soon as you get a chance works pretty well; without his favourite piece, Nelson quickly loses the plot. Just stay solid in the opening, watch out for any queen-related shenanigans he tries, swap queens if you can, and wait for him to blunder. Once he hangs a piece (and he will) he quickly self-destructs.

@@steven631764 - Oh, why is that? I play on my tablet using the app - haven't tried using the browser on a PC - but I can't think why there would be a difference - can you elaborate please?
@steven631764 Жыл бұрын
@@honeychurchgipsy6 That was my feeling after having played against bots on my phone and then on my pc through the browser. I could be wrong about there being a difference. Assuming that the chess engine used to generate moves for the bots runs locally (on the device and not their servers) which I believe is the case, then one device may be able to look at a greater depth in the same amount of time. So if they're set to run for a certain period of time each move then one will come up with better moves than the other. Probably the developers would try to even them out, thus the engine may run a bit longer on the 'weaker' engine. But they may limit how long the engine can run to keep it more responsive to the user. You should take what I said with a big grain of salt. Of course you can test for yourself. Play 100 games against a bot using one device then 100 against the same bot on the other device. Then compare win rates. That could take a while... 😄
How did Nelson manage to lose 21 points of material??? Also, as a bonus, let's open the front door to the king with f4, and then throw away castling rights with Kd1 while being down a queen. In what universe would a 1300 play like this??? This would've been perfect for a guess the elo submission, but I don't know if games against bots are accepted.

What's interesting about Nelson is that you do NOT want to Queen trade early or even midgame, as he actually plays quite competently without a queen, and you're without one. he plays quite a lot higher than 1300 anyways. The goal is either to take it for free (obviously) or more likely make it irrelevant.

Just wanna express a theory I thought of involving mittens: Basically the bot M3GAN was originally rated 850 elo but out of nowhere a few days ago she gained 200 elo by defeating 2 of the lower rated cat bots as they posed as rivals to the player. This means the M3GAN is most likely against chess bots beating the player, so my theory is that after some time M3GAN will slowly defeat the remaining 3 cat bots (including mittens) and reach a level of playing strength above, even, mittens and therefore will act as the new most powerful chess bot, who will most likely ace as the next Mittens but be even stronger

This is so good. I’m past this level of play now, but like 3 weeks ago I was being crushed in blitz by early queen players, and so I opted to go back to studying. I figured I’d play computers and get better and watch more on my favorite openings so far. The problem is: early queen play is not something that gets covered in opening education because opening study just goes over the proper lines and their variations prior to mid-game.** Well, in my quest to improve I ran into Nelson and was like omg not this again!! More queen nonsense! So I decided to scour YT, and even your channel, for all the ways to truly punish these types of players. But alas- there was no definitive content for this stuff. But now you’ve gone and posted exactly what I was needing before! So awesome! And it’s still very helpful bc now I can solidify everything I did manage to learn before to get over that hump. ** side note: a great tip for creating useful content imo would be for you to make vids about each opening again, but instead of the common lines- addressing say, 3-5 main mistakes your opponent might make that end the book lines too early, thus putting them at a disadvantage since the book lines do go on as long as they do for good reason; because if you get a line that isn’t a known variation there is likely a good reason it’s not a variation (it’s punishable by one side or the other). That’s just something I noticed in my quest to improve at chess: all the content on openings never actually goes over “well black does this in response, because if they did say X, Y, or Z- any of these early deviations from the proper lines can be punished in A, B, and C ways.”

The timing of this video could not be more perfect. I am a very new player working my way through the bots and Nelson was giving me a bit of a hard time, especially the other day when I was sick. I managed to beat him without assistance but I look forward to finishing this video to improve more.

Has this video not been done already? I distinctly remember you teaching us how to defeat Nelson, and me defeating him just before I had watched your video...

Thanks Levy, Nelson used to do me over. After taking on board these lessons I've absolutely humiliated him (it), including a comeback after my early blunder. I'll never fear Nelson again!

17:23 you couldve played knight to e3, it protects the bishop, blocks check, and cant be killed because its protected by dark squared bishop

The funny thing is, Nelson, actually, one of the easiest 1200-1300 bots and can be beaten on very low player's elo (700-800). If you attack his quinn aggressively, he is programmed to blunder it (or so it seems). After that he can do some surprisingly good combinations, but if you play safe, exchange and don't blunder pieces - Nelson is relatively easy to deal with. By the end of the day, Nelson is great to practice scholar's mate and related attacks defences.

Still can't do it. I come back to this video often, just to watch someone crush him. But whenever I do it, Nelson actually does all the things Gotham says he SHOULD do. Fun. It's teaching me that I probably should give up chess.

Nelson is easy to beat Just take is queen and he's absolutely useless He sucks at identifying threats and falls for advanced traps

I have never beaten Nelson before and after this video I proceeded to destroy him. I didn't even play what I learned from this video. I played a queen's gambit (I dont really know it but I thought Nelson would be easy now) and so I played solidly and slowly took him down until he blundered mate. Thanks Levi, you helped me understand why I lose to Nelson and how I can easily destroy him if I think about his moves and what I can do about them.

Nelson is my go to bot to play because he's closest to my rating. The games go one of 2 ways. Either he hangs his queen on move 5, then blunders a bishop and a knight and then hangs checkmate for free. Or he doesn't bring his Queen out early for no reason, doesn't hang any pieces for free and it's a really close game up until I blunder a piece around move 20 and then the game goes downhill.

Fun fact , turn on assistance when you play against mittens, it defeats mittens easily.

Nelson. Why do you keep developing your queen to an exposed square? Nelson:Heh. Im planning something.

I'm absolutely atrocious at chess. Could barely beat a 700 bot a few weeks ago as I literally only knew how the pieces moved. Have watched your videos for a few weeks now and I can beat Nelson about 80% of the time. I've capped out around the 1500 bot mark. I haven't actually studied, simply watch your videos. But doing even just that has made me understand the game so much more

Nelson is easy , for anyone can’t beat him here’s a tip always try to use horse to fork his pieces just be aggressive then he’s like uh oh I’m dead lol

Nelson's over reliance on his queen is his undoing. I've beaten him a few times. Lost a few games before though lol
Love this one! Please make more videos showing how to win against specific bots/type of players. Thank you

I've found that if you just trade queens with Nelson as early as you can, he has no idea what to do and just hangs every piece.

Nice video. As a request, I think it would be cool if you release more bot videos of you playing against the advanced bots, showing players in the 1500-2000 ELO range how to beat harder bots like Antonio, Isabel, Wally, and Li.

Whats crazy is I recently got back into chess and am climbing up the bot ladder. I bought a couple of Levys courses and I have gotten all the way to Nelson. After being stuck on him for a couple days, this video drops. Crazy coincidence.
