I played with that guy in college in Boulder, Colorado in 2004-2005 before he dropped out of engineering to pursue poker. $20 games, I was usually organizing them, he always ran house, a standout of anyone I ever played with in college, never talked to him again after he dropped out, then i see him on t.v. 15 years later, congrats to him, well played chance, well played.

@@easymoney7007 Lex attitude toward tourney and “dipsh*t” w huge stack happens in all situations in life, biz,… always a drunk idiot huge stack whether cash/tourney. Same w biz ie Musk w Twitter. Point is; that’s life! It’s gonna be unfair. Lex has to pick better spots/opponents in tourneys, and study differing style of tourney play. But that river near all-in 99 vs AT(top pair). There’s no tourney player that is savvy enough to value bet that board texture. What it looks like: non-believer w pocket pair b/t A and 2nd pair and got lucky on river move. But it’s every cash grinder’s ultimate goal, to take down a big tourney vs toil away at $50ish hourly looking for +ev spots in search of Moby Dick?

AK you have to call. Not bc it’s top pair top kicker, but bc the way you played it. You just flatted on the button, which is fine, so your hand’s strength is very well disguised. If you run into some weird two pair then he’s just going to get your money. I always enjoy your vids 😁

Lex, I'm a long-time watcher, and I'm pulling for your success. This was really hard to watch though. You are a better player than you showed. You spoke of the board texture and the individual player tendencies before making the wrong move multiple times. Tournaments are different, especially early when playing deep-stacked. You have the assessment that makes me believe this was just a bad emotional day for you or even under-confidence. Regardless, keep your head up. Thanks for sharing your real analysis and being up front about your mentality.

Way to kick a man when down. Even if joking, it's kind of in poor taste. He played passively and should learn from his mistakes. He analyzed the players/ scenarios well but then went against his own reads far too often. It was hard to watch. Still, throwing a competitor of his out there as if they can't both be successful in their own styles it pretty low.

Hi Lex. Love the vlog and for the record, I always hit the like button before I even watch the video. Couple of thoughts about tourneys for you to consider to cement what you alluded to in your outro: you are certainly a better poker player than most folks in the room but a lot of the tourney hands you show are clearly played correctly in a cash game but are not correct in a tourney. On the A-10 hand I was saying out loud ‘just shove preflop’… once you hit the flop I wanted you to just get it in, and on the river my thought was that you didn’t need to figure out what his hand was, except that it was a winner. If you like to switch it up occasionally and have fun playing a tourney you might consider playing one or two cheap ones each week to gain the experience and you will innately understand how to navigate situations because you will see them more often and KNOW what the correct play is even if it is opposite of your cash game play. You’re probably thinking that a $3500 buyin translates to mostly ‘good’ players but as you have seen, not as true as you’d like it to be. Keep the vlogs coming… look forward to every one and learn a lot from your thoughts. Thanks!

@Lex O Poker Hey bro! Love the channel! Been binge watching all your videos! Can you do a video on playing $1/$2? That's more my level and prob a lot of people play that level starting out. I am not a winning player at 1/2 and i would like to see how it's done with a max buy in of $300. I feel like there's not enough chips to do the moves you do in a 5/10. By the time i raise and committ to the hand i already put half my stack in and end up losing, then i have to play tight and wait for a big hand then ship it all in and hope it holds.

So in the final A-10 hand you are going to get shown a 5 there a ton. He can play any 5 there like pocket jokers. In that spot he knows beyond a shadow of all doubt that you have an AK at best. If he's betting river he knows he needs to get AK to fold which is suicide. Pocket 9's is lol, but it will be the 5 the rest of the time. Only thing you beat is the X-files hands. Many times the story is how the guy with a few bigs came back and won. So tilting to have to fold this spot, but it's a must.

I'm sure your home casino has daily or weekly tournaments. You should consider playing one of them every week. Of course there is some luck, you can't win without winning some key flips, but you will get a better "feel" for stack sizing and when to play aggressively. Studying is good but it is nothing like sitting down and playing against a mix of pros and rec players on a regular basis. Keep playing your cash games, got to make a living so you can splash around in tournys. Love your vlog, keep up the grind.

I hear how you speak in regards to rec players, and I think that it is a problem that you underestimate them. Please respect the recreational skill level and be humble because you will loose more underestimating your opponents. I'm sure you know this being a person with a wrestling background and overall competitor. Good luck on the felt.

The AK situation: it is very hard to say, with little info. You do call the player "splashy" but what does that mean. Have you seen any showdowns? Has this player made aggressive semi-bluffs with drawing hands? Has he overplayed A-J/A-Q thinking they were nutted? Tough to fold. I may just have to call and take the cooler like a man if he hit A-7, 6-7 or a set.

I disagree. There was minimum action pre-flop. He said the guy never got out of line then called a raise and shoved after a re-raise. The shove was massively over the pot size as well. It made much more sense to be a strong hand than a bluff, especially early in the tournament when playing deep-stacked. Late in the tourney, sure.

- Don't think you can ever make that last call against a player that was playing passively before. At that point you can be certain he has it. - a lot of players calling a low all in pre flop and checking it down is a pretty common elimination tactic in tourneys. Just my 2 cents.

He don’t get unlucky he play the hand completely wrong. Once he flips top pair sub 20 blinds he should be getting the money in on the turn. He should have bet the flop and jammed the turn. Had he played the hand correctly the guy would have never seen the 9 to begin with. Last time he played a tournament he said the same thing about being unlucky which is going to keep happing until he starts to out time into tournament poker. Maybe in the cash game you check a flop of A55 for pot control with ace 10 but not in a tournament with less then 20bb. Why check for pot control then not have the control to fold when show aggression. It’s just doesn’t make sense.

If you studied hard enough you wouldn’t have let him get to the River and see that 9. Checking the flop is the reason you lost the hand. You’re sitting with 20 big blinds and you flop top pair. You should be trying to get all the money in not checking for pot control. You should absolutely be betting enough on the flop to set up a turn jam. Had you played the hand correctly he would have never seen the River 9.

Your hand explanations sound like Rampage 2 years ago when he was a punter rather than a crusher. Stick to cash, in locales with fish you've figured out. Your play in the 33 hand was especially bad. You start out set mining. Swing and a miss. Hey, maybe everyone else missed, maybe I can play for value. Swing and a miss. Hey, maybe I can bluff an overpair out. Swing and a miss. The flop was 100% fold. You were owned, by AA no less. Stop trying to convince yourself they were wrong, amateurish, or fishy in any way. AA is a good hill to die on in a tourney. 33 is not. Oh, and on the QQ top set flop, betting 1BB was a ridiculous tell/mistake. They immediately knew your range on that bet was probably top set, maybe middle set, and a small chance of bottom set. I've seen no evidence of a reasonable chance you'd EVER bet that with a draw, top pair, middle pair, or a complete miss. Neither had they. For that play to work, you have to be known for betting it with a very wide range of hands, like maybe replacing 1/3 to 1/2 of your checks with a minbet.

The loose guy could easily have 67,A7, A6 and as you’re deep you could fold and pick a better spot than risking the tourney. He could also have 89, or 45 . The perm is he could so have lots of Ax hands or middle pairs. I’d call and even if he has 67 you could outdraw him with another 2 pair. Not sure what the correct play is but I’d have called.

The money you have at the time always seems to dictate one's strategy going in, obviously, if you have a couple of bullets that you don't mind pissing away, can be advantageous to take more risks and gain a quick lead in the chipstack count, otherwise you are forced to play super tight and just wish for perfect spots.

I’ve read that even the best tournament players only cash 15% of the time. So so more than 5 out of 6 times you bust out without anything. In cash games better players win much more than they lose. Likely 2 out of 3 sessions you make money, and likely your losses are smaller and your wins bigger. So I guess pick your poison, lose most of the time but occasionally win big, or win most of the time but never likely a huge payday. I think you have struck the correct mix and once you break through and run deep enough to cash mid to high 5 figures or get a really big win, you’ll think better of your play.

So I have a strategy question for the card players out there?? I see a lot of vloggers say “ I don’t think he would have a hand because he checked the turn or flop but why wouldn’t you think he could have that because you checked the flop or turn first with a similar hand?? I’m talking about the Q10 vs QJ …. I never understood why since lex checked Q10 why wouldn’t he think his opponent has QJ or QK on the turn … maybe he’s trying to be a little sticky as well.. either way it worked becuase he had a xactly what you thought he didn’t have.. it just confuses me when y’all think someone’s hand isn’t exactly what it is.. almost like you know what the villain has and your trying to convince yourself otherwise 🤷🏾‍♂️

Although I still enjoy tournament play I barely ever win. My game has changed. So you can be a great player but it's a different landscape from one to the other. Why not charge 1.5 Mark Up instead? Clearly u have a huge edge in tournaments. Especially against a main event field. Pure comedy.

I think the 33 hand is a fold preflop imo.

Feels like a pretty straightforward call on the all in. Can’t imagine too many flops I’d rather see when flatting AK, if I lose to sets or draws by the river than it is what it is

Lex I understand what your saying about your 2nd bullet getting great card but the board runs out any loose the hand. That's called a dead seat. No matter what you do your going to lose. I would like to see all the hands u got. I betting you got a ton of repeat hands or cards.

That wasn't luck. He made good analyses and then went against them. It was painful. It's good to see him analyze though. It shows he has growth coming.
