i get your complaint with ipsy and birchbox but i will say it makes sense to just try things as opposed to getting a ton of full size things that you might not like and then throw out. like i can imagine myself getting something like that hair mask, using once and not liking how it works on my hair, then throwing it out. whereas with samples i dont have to manually find the samples myself and i get to just test things and limit the amount of waste i make. alsoooo that mini mascara in the birchbox was def at least $12 and those have to be purchased, you can’t get them for free. just some thoughts

I understand where you are coming from, but the bottom line is the bottom line - what you are getting is not worth what you are paying, even if you are using the samples. I guess it's personal preference. I'm not that interested in paying a company $15 for free samples just to try something new. Admittedly, I did get the sample Benefit Roller Lash mascara (although I highly doubt they paid full-price for it) and I really did like it. but in my experience those type of samples were few and far between.

I do only Ipsy and personally love the sample sizes. And they come to me, I don't have to seek them out. About half of the time there is a full size product in the box. More than half of the time there is a brush. Good Lord I love a new brush! Ipsy makes me happy. Big exceptions: as she stated, they make it impossible to cancel. Which is so shady and disrespectful. And they make you beg and wait to get your first box. Such b.s. Just send it when I order and stop sending it when I cancel,Ipsy. Should be no biggie.

I have been a FFF subscriber for 4 years. When I get the box I go through it and I pick an item or two out for myself and I save the rest for my girls. When Christmas rolls around I give them everything from the FFF box. I spit it up between the two of them. My girls have kids and never buy for themselves. I remember when my kids were little I never bought for myself either. I find this a grand way to pamper my girls. They love their gifts so much. I even buy some extra items and add to it. I agree with the Ipsy making it hard to cancel thing! But, when I feel like I can afford it, I actually really like their subscription. They were really good about choosing things I liked and I’ll use their samples for months before they run out. I felt like the value was in them helping you find new products that you might not otherwise find on your own. I cancelled to save money for a few months and they offered me a free palette to re-start. But, I may cancel again. I tried them and Birchbox and preferred Ipsy, but Ipsy is more geared towards makeup specifically and Birchbox will include skin and hair care too. And, Birchbox did raise their prices, when I used them over a year ago, it was only $10.

If you use Fab Fit Fun's regular price of $50 and compare it to Ipsy's $10... you could get 5 Ipsys, each with 5 products. A lot of times you will get 1 full sized or delux sample sized item, and 4 samples. So for the same amount of money as 1 Fab Fit Fun you get 5 larger sized items and 20 samples, plus 5 reusable bags. It's not as bad of a deal as it might seem!

Obviously everyone's wants, needs, and priorities are different! I was just trying to show an apples to apples comparison between the two. :) I got Ipsy for almost a year, found a couple products/brands that I now love, and use 5 or 6 of the bags in various areas of my life! That said, not everything worked out, and from different videos I see they do eventually start repeating products... So there are pros and cons.

I'm an Ipsy subscriber and for what it's worth, you can upgrade to the glam bag plus to get 5 full-sized products for only $25, which is a really good deal. You can also get 8 full-size AND 4 samples for only $50!! That said, the regular glam bag is still really good, you get to try a lot of fun new personalized products each month for not a lot of money. The bags they come in are really good quality and would probably usually sell for the same price as the whole glam bag.

Birchbox is the ancestor of sub boxes. Then Ipsy and so on. They did increase their price, but not their offerings. It’s got to be tough to get decent products at that price range, unless it benefits them, and birch has gotten a bad rap, so their offerings will reflect that. At least they arent offering dumpster products or out of date items.

100% agree on that assessment of Ipsy. I received their bags for around a year and got maybe ~15 things over the course of that year that I liked and would consider purchasing again. Everything else I had to give away or throw out after it expired. They definitely rely on the convenience factor (cheap cost + ease of access) as their primary selling point and make it difficult to get out of your subscription.

The Benefit mascara (Birchbox) is $15; which is the MINI size. That box contains deluxe sample sizes; which you would pay for if you were to shop at Ultra or Sephora. If you travel a lot, these are GOLD.

I'm beyond happy with everything I get every month not to mention I love being able to purchase 5 add-ons on every month that comes in my box. So is it a set 49.99 for fab fit fun or how much does it come out to total? Ive heard that toy pay the 49.99 and then each item as well. Can you tell me how it works?

Gracie Purdy each box is $49.99 total (or you can pay up front for a whole year and it’s $180, which would come out to $45 a box). If you pay per box, you only get to pick 3-5 of the items you receive and the rest are a surprise. If you pay for the whole year upfront, you get to pick all of your items. Hope that makes sense!

I agree with you girl! 100%! Ipsy makes it almost impossible to cancel! Very sneaky, I do not like that at all! Companies need to be straight up. If you’re unhappy with it for any reason, or wish to discontinue/unsubscribe it should be very clear how to do so. It’s just bad customer service and bad marketing To make it so difficult to unsubscribe! Ipsy, do better!!!

I've always wanted to do a subscription box... more of something like 'Datebox', though, I think. But if there were more faith-based boxes, that could be fun. So I appreciate the honest reviews.
