As someone in a family with 11 cousins under 18 at one point, I’ve never had any kids cry over getting a boring piece/one with less icing. Sure, kids were more excited for the pieces with the big decorative blotches, but cake is cake. There are also usually some older kids who don’t like icing. I think crying over it is very spoiled behavior, and I hope that doesn’t actually happen! If kids are gonna cry over anything, its usually about all the chocolate cupcakes being gone or vice versa lol

@@dirtabd she's 21, so likely not around much, but Dad remembers her favorite color is Purple. She's his little girl so he wants it to be cute. He trusts the decorator. Let's not lump all dads into a category of 'going through the motions'. My own dad wasn't what I would call the most attentive on the surface. He would seem lackadaisical to the outsider, but what they don't realize is that gifts are not his thing; actions are. He was by far the worst gift-giver without help, but he was always there for us in whatever capacity he could manage and that's what we remember the most.

Once I ordered a 3 tier yellow cake (actually a pound cake) with chocolate frosting with purple flowers and green leaves. The baker and cake decorator had no vision and said "you're kidding right?" when I told them the colors. I knew it would be gorgeous with that deep brown frosting, with purple and green accents. I showed them the exact colors I wanted. When it was done they admitted I was right.

That doesn't sound like someone who didn't think about this outside of the color. This sounds like someone who's daughter is celebrating with a limited amount of friends, likely ones close to her and she knows what they like and requested it. The only way he could order so specifically like this was is if he talked to her about this first and asked her what she wanted. Considering there are only 9 cupcakes for her 21st birthday, I get the feeling she isn't big on celebrating and therefore probably never had anything in mind in the first place. Sounds like she just knew her favorite color and told him to go with that. Also, he knows his daughter more than any of us do.

i work in the same exact bakeshop. cupcake cakes can be up to 35 cupcakes, she didnt have room because he only wanted 9. besides that this was an extremely standard order. btw she didnt use actual flower or petal frosting tips, she used star tips. so when she did "flowers" she did the lazy way. also whip cream cant be made into dark colors, that purple will look like trash in an hour because the dye bleeds out into the white and fades from the swirl.

"Messy" you are not!! Envious of your level of skill. I have always felt deep respect for bakers in supermarkets who must complete a large number of decorated cakes, and do them consistently well and in a limited amount of time. People do not realize most frosted baked goods for sale on a mass level are made with automatic frosting machines, while their local store is creating the designs by hand, and expected to be just as perfect. My hat is off to you chef!
