Optical low pass filter is good quality to have, as it makes footage seem more organic and less digital with harsh edges. Cheaper cameras like S5 and S1 do not have optical low pass filter. So it's downside if they get rid of it for this new camera.

I couldn't agree more. Plus the 8.5K and 4K/120 (hopefully with no crop) and phase detect AF will be magical!

Robert , I like your thinking, no OPLF would be bad , I can't imagine Panasonic going backwards with this. The biggest change going forward would be 12 bit , also Pro Res 444 would be a gamechange. It's all about the image , remaining NetFlix approved , most of the other stuff is playing the DSLR game with the other opposition cameras & Blackmagic.

No OLPF=No bueno. Welcome moire. I'm about to buy a used s1h just because I want that filter. I hope they keep it in whatever new version comes out. And I believe the original s1h does have dual native ISO at 640 and 4000. I hope they keep that as well.

I hope that is the case. That is the most negative comment Ive received. Since all of there other full-frame cameras (and some of their micro 3/4 do too) have dual Native ISO its safe to safe this one (a flag ship camera) will as well.

I'm a lumix user, but the specs sound BS. No way they can jump from about 14 stops to 18 stops DR.

It’s an immediate show stopper if this camera doesn’t have an optical low pass filter. As me, and others, unfortunately discovered with the S5II and S5IIx, the lack of that filter is a BIG fail for video shooters still in scenarios like weddings or corporate events where people wear heavily patterned clothing. Kolari has just released an optical low pass filter mod for the S5II, BUT installing it costs 600 bucks and immediately voids the camera body warranty. Not an ideal scenario. Lumix has finally got good autofocus, but they are lagging behind Sony and Canon now (which pains me to say.) They need to have faster read out sensors to tackle rolling shutter, or move to a global shutter platform, they need to have PDAF across their entire lineup, they need to keep using optical low pass filters for professional video use, and they need to move on this NOW.

Maybe it is a cost thing, perhaps they want the image to have ultimate sharpness to cater more to stills shooters, or they want the color of an image to have less shift from a filter, I'm not entirely certain, I just know not having it can make it feel like playing Russian Roulette on certain types of video shoots with aliasing and moire.

The optical low pass filter should prevent the morie problems that Panasonic cameras are having. I would have to pay Kolari $700 to install one I'm the Lumix s5ii. Idk, I'm just a photographer.

Shots fired, lol. I've owned the S1H since it was released and never have I used it for stills. I wouldn't use the "S1Hii' for photography too. The S5ii is great for that.

@@RobertSilverPhotography the S1x is supposed to be more universal... Capture One Forum : "We don't have current plans for implementing tethering for Panasonic cameras. " So the S5II is in the same boat... (i'm using fuji GFX 100s for still and Panasonic for video... ).

All I'll be looking for is better lowlight performance and dynamic range. All the other bigger numbers are so unecessary for 95% of what most videographers do. I've actually been shooting less slowmo on my S1H beacuse slowmo is so overused in mid-low range video production that its now looked at as a "cheap" effect.

@@johnrpittenger If you are familiar with cinematographer; Steve Yedlin, pixel count has little to no correlation to dynamic range, it's tied to noise and the quality of the photosites themselves. The Alexa 35 only shoots in 4.6K but yet shoots up to 17 stops of dynamic range, none of the 8K Red cameras have anywhere close to their advertised amount when tested on CineD. The original Alexa classic only shoots up to 2.8k and yet still has a higher dynamic range than the S1H (which is a 6k camera)

Sad to say but I can't blame you. That is the one camera I'm waiting for from Lumix. I love my S1H but the AF and new stabilization is crazy good - i need that in my S1H.

Henri Cartier-Bresson was one of the most respected, and influencial photographers of the late 1940's. He had soul, he had the essence, and vision. If you don't have that, then no amount of GAS/technology will make you a better photo/video creator. Believe in yourself, not the gear you have.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling it may be higher than the S1H (originally at ($4K). I hope it'll at least be the same but that's just me being hopeful, lol.
