Funky Kong and King Boo have the same offroad bonus, and since the threshold to maintain a drift is based on a percentage of top speed, Funky's speed bonus doesn't matter either. If one can maintain a drift through the offroad, the other can too. However, the deceleration rate in offroad is not percentage-based, so Funky with his greater absolute difference between drift threshold and top speed can maintain a drift slightly longer in the offroad than King Boo, but it still cancels pretty quickly.

it turns out Funky Kong has the off-road *handling* bonus (as opposed to off-road *speed* ) which King Boo does not, so I guess that's the difference maker when it comes to drifting through the off-road on high speed modes. Even Dry Bowser doesn't have it surprisingly, despite having a higher off-road *speed* bonus than any other heavyweight character. Waluigi, Bowser, and the Mii also have an off-road *handling* bonus albeit only half as much as that of Funky Kong. I didn't quite know how that worked until I looked up all the stats.

In case you're wondering about that Lightning Cup's final standings, here's how it shook out: 1. Matutino (1st on Bowser's Castle. 19 --> 34 points). 2. Amiibo (2nd on Bowser's Castle. 24 --> 33 points). 3. Empex (3rd on Bowser's Castle. 17 --> 22 points). 4. Troy (4th on Bowser's Castle. 18 --> 20 points (eliminated). 5. Discheme (5th on Bowser's Castle. 20 --> 21 points). There was only a 5-point difference between 1st through 5th after the third race and a 14-point difference at the conclusion of the GP. That's how close that GP was holy. Incredibly enough, only Amiibo was safe mathematically because of how bad the point distributions are from 3rd through 5th.
