I… actually really liked that “scoop” button sound. Very 90’s metal, but it sounds like a very specific and narrow frequency is scooped to allow most of the body and punch to remain - at least, when recorded. Hard to say what it would sound like in a room unless we were in the room with it. Great demo, Taylor!

I almost always call when I order to make sure to get a description of the condition of the amp before they ship it, for multiple reasons, to make sure there's no shipping damage on arrival, and if it sounds like it's in worse condition than what the site says, I'll have them cancel the order before they pack it, and adjust the listing. It tends to save everyone involved the headache. If they don't change the listing, report them to corporate about employees misleading customers about the condition of their used equipment, and make a note of which Guitar Center listed that item, and don't buy from them, and tell the rest of us. It's not slander or libel if it's the truth!

I do enjoy mine. It really does need help from the base tone but with the right gain staging and EQ it can be a solid Marshall tone platform. This was my first head and half stack. I eventually got a 6505+ and have kept that for the better part of 20 years, but this was a great learning tool. Like you pointed out, the biggest issue was the lack of volume. I couldn’t compete with any drummer. It didn’t help that I scooped the mids lol But I really enjoyed the effects, and the tones felt like how a good Marshall should to me. I think more volume and foot switchable effects and I would have kept this amp. For anyone interested in picking this up, my amp did produce a weird “siren” sound for a while. Had to get it serviced. Never experienced anything like that with any amp before or after. Thanks for the trip down memory lane bro!

@@SwedishMeattball sorry I meant the Marshall wasn’t loud enough. It was 150 watts whereas the Peavey is 120, but in my experience, tube watts have always been way louder than solid state. What have found in mine, is it will work great with my tubescreamer dx, but you have to pick and choose what you will be compromising for. You can get pretty nice lead solo sound but when you start riffing, it is way muffled. On the other hand, you can get nice riffing sound if you will NOT be doing solos because it will be way too sharp to the ear for doing higher notes. I love the footswitch. The clean is solid for what it is. And the effects are pretty nice. Again, for what it is. One thing, maybe its just mine, but once you have any effect in mind, and you have the effect level turned AT ALL, the tone takes a hit, even if not enabled. Definitely worth 250-300 w/ ft switch as an amp to beat up and not need to be too loud with. Just got a JVM410h so this AVT will be hibernating lol

And realistically how many people can afford to buy a new super lead or 800 from marshall, people always joke about soldano prices but marshall is just as expensive. Been thinking of getting one of these but after seeing this I think I may just go for another MG100. I had a AVT50h for a while that was pretty nice sounding, but like with the 150 here, it took a significant amount of push on the master volume to get loud. I had to run the 50 at about 7 before it would finally start to sit with my drummer. Side note: Ugh, the inability to pack gear is the scariest part about ordering online. I got an old 70s Peavey amp a while ago in a box twice the size of the head with almost no packing inside. The main transformer broke free as a result of the pack job. Luckily nothing got messed up and I was able to remount the transformer easy enough.
@TaylorDanley Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's fair. But for the most part, I don't have an issue ordering online gear. I think you just have to factor in late Nov- Jan is the worst time to get anything in the mail because the infastructure gets pushed to its limit for the holidays. I used to work for UPS, and literally just the influx of boxes on a conveyor can lead to more damaged packages... especially if they are larger and heavier.

SMD circuitry, Class-D amplifiers, or both digital preamp and power amps under the guise of solid state or some so-called cutting edge technology; the same pile of shit slung at us 30 years ago. With that said, tube gear is now just highway robbery. I'm an electronics/electrical engineer, so from my perspective electronics in general including tube gear is obscenely overpriced. Would it kill someone to return to a tube preamp and then whatever the hell cheapo power stage technology so they can still penny pinch?!? Even digital is pulling $1500 for floor units and amps, many of which I wouldn't give 10% of the selling price to own. *I'm soon to buy one more piece of gear, then I will continue to design and build my own avoiding a purchase ever again!*

Sounds like you left your guitar in the neck position and never changed it back during the high gain parts🎉

That sucks about the packing man ,people need to be aware that shipping companies are not gentle with gear. Packing is almost a art form maybe a trade 🤔 😅

I can't imagine someone going to the hassle of faking this, but I also can neither confirm or deny it.

Is the "Toothless Granny" face compulsory for metal guitar players, or is it a condition brought on by too much time alone in your bedroom?

No disrespect but this amp sounds nothing like an 800 series Marshall, unless you put a metal zone in front of it. Just my thoughts.
