I like writing the word "minimum", which in my handwriting is basically a uniform squiggle with two dots randomly floating above it. I also love writing the letter y. So for ultimate writing pleasure I invented the word "minimumy", which I suppose is an adverb meaning "possessing the qualities of a minimumish thing".

Hands down the most helpful video I have watched in my efforts to improve my handwriting. While the letters I naturally make are almost the diametric opposite of the elegant cursive script I desperately wanted to adopt, they create absolutely no stress and feel completely natural. For the first time since I learned to write almost 50 years ago, I feel like my handwriting is (a) reliable (b) more consistent and (c) much more 'me', which is really what matters. Thank you!

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I found your channel today and you remind me of Jonny Lee Miller's version on of Sherlock on Elementary. I imagine Sherlock's analysis of his handwriting would be exactly as you have done it. Very interesting. I enjoyed your video.

I love this approach. For years, I hated and struggled with writing specific letters. Now's a great time to become more aware of these and devise a plan to deal with them. Rushing through them--with dissatisfaction--pushing through them as not worked. Thank you!

It's interesting that you're looking into the mind of the writer rather than just the hand (and wrist and forearm and body posture). I can write perfectly acceptable letters when I write slowly, but most letters and words get harder to recognize the faster I go. This would suggest that those with my issue should practice writing just a little faster for a time, then by degrees pick up speed until the writing approaches the speed of thought.

This technique is absolutely brilliant! I never thought about it personally but after you mentioned it, I realized that I have letters I enjoy writing and others I hate. Lower case “r” is one I hate. “F” and “J” i love. I will definitely try this out and see how I can determine the motions I like and do more of those and less if the ones I dislike. Really excited to try this out.

Tip for capital “F” You really enjoy the lowercase “f”. Why not make a lowercase F and then cross it like a T? (I’ve been experimenting with this myself for a little while, and I’m not sure. I love it, but it is an improvement. )

So close to the camera! So intimate! It made me uncomfortable... but I liked it? This is great advice, btw. This helped me to swap out a few letters I didn't like, and it also helped me identify some problematic letter combinations. My thanks!

You're very welcome and I'm happy you found it weird but intimate, that's exactly what I went for here

Cool tip, looking forward to trying it out! I'm home schooling my little girls and will try this with them, and it... my hand writing could use some work! One word I really like writhing is "little", and having the pen flow through all the letters, then coming back to dot the i's and cross the t's. Each t gets its own cross though, I don't like using one horizontal stroke to cross both t's at once!
@onepenshow4 жыл бұрын
That's where you and I differ Adam, I love dotting everything with one impatient cross stroke! Good luck with your kids, I've always thought I'd home school mine as well when the time comes.
@adammiscellaneous93094 жыл бұрын
@@onepenshow Dotting everything with one cross stroke, now I might try that with the i and t's in little... okay I've tried it, and I feel like it'll make my writing even less ineligible to my wife, hehehe I love it! Home schooling is great, we love teaching our kids... especially how to unpack a dish washer lol.

3:13 I'm assuming that's how you write E and F. I persoanly write em in the cursive way - if you haven't you should give that a try as they are much more round! Ever since I was kid I was writing in cursive with a fountain pen as that's how my school taught me and I'm very gald that they made me learn it because it feels really good!~ Althought I still hate the lower case e

I also don't like the printed capital letters E or F, and I loathe the Palmer method's capital D. I always have trouble writing lower case r, v and w.I'll work on those particularly. Thank you and happy new year from 2024!

Great video. Loved you style. "punishment corner" 👍😁 Some great ideas thank you. Love writing with my fountain pens but until now had considered evolving my handwriting. You have inspired me to try😊

Hey you said your still figuring out your capital E so here is an idea. I do mine like a backwards 3. It looks nice after a few times using it. Maybe you'll like it.

I ended up buying a copy of Michael Sull's "The Art of Cursive Penmanship - A Personal Handwriting Program for Adults". I hear what you are saying. But when you say "I never really learned how to form ...", I think "Well, here's a good source for that." It's a good background to come from. I think changing the way certain letters that somebody stumbles on is fine, but I tend to go more for practicing the weak ones, doing it the "standard" way. Slowing down is a power tip. Sometimes one is trying to write as fast as somebody else talks and that's hard.

This is interesting but I’m struggling with designing out an issue I have with the letter m - I hate the short up and down motion so it always ends up looking completely flat and difficult to distinguish from a letter n or r. Do I just put loads of focus into these letters in terms of practice? Or do you have a suggestion of how I can do these letters differently. Same problem with w

My penmanship has one big flaw - my lowercase “e” is closed and looks like an “i” most of the time. This doesn’t happen at the beginning of a word, only everywhere else. This has annoyed me ever since I began to reclaim writing by hand. For some reason, every other letter is open (such as “a”, “o”, etc) but the “e” is miserably resistant to being written as an open letter. Thanks to your video, I have begun to pay particular attention and deliberately work to write an open “e”. I find it interesting how resistant my mind/hand coordination is to making this change! My mind wants an “e” which is distinct from an “i” but my hand doesn’t want to make it so. Thanks for this helpful and interesting video.

Sixty years ago if one was doing an F like you do, the teacher would say: "that is not an F but a German S". The lower loop was to turn the other way. I have learned to write with a pen which I had to dip in the inkwell. I got a fountain pen at about 11. Well, maybe the very first start was with a pencil, I don't remember.
@onepenshow Жыл бұрын
That's true, it's also a Medieval S if I remember correctly. Oh well,

The best budget fountain pen is probably the Platinum Preppy at around $3. I really like the Lamy Safari (good grip section) but it's a bit pricier. (Bit broader nib) The Pilot Metropolitan is also an incredible (steel) pen for around $20 if you like a finer nib. Good luck!

The Prefounte is lovely as is the Faber Castelle. But you can’t beat the Preppy for fun and value.
