I actually tinkered around with Android x86 a bit on my old Acer Aspire 4330 back in 2013 or so, when the then-current build was still based on Android 4.4. It was neat, and ran amazingly smoothly and fast) quickly on my aging laptop, but I found it largely unfit for daily use, and instead ended up breathing new life into that old machine with Linux Mint. @ultrademigod4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm not sure why you would recommend doing this at all, as it seems like a fairly extreme measure to take when there are so many other steps to take first. The OS is almost never the cause of slowdown with older hardware, and assuming the CPU is working properly and isn't a single or dual core processor it never is. The most likely cause of slowdown is a full or failing HDD, followed by a virus.
@deanzambardi29914 жыл бұрын

My mom has an aging 2core-2thread Pentium based Acer laptop from 2012. I upgraded her from 3GB of ram to 8GB and to a 120GB SSD with a clean install of Windows as a gift a couple years ago, but she refuses to change systems because of the amount of $$ she spent on it 8+ years ago. She just wants to keep using it until it dies. She even turned away my Thinkpad T540p. I think I'm going to try bringing over my spare 120GB SSD, swapping drives and doing this install for her, just to breathe a little bit of extra life into the system. All she uses Windows for is Chrome and Spotify, I moved her to Google Drive years ago so she's not going to be losing anything on her local storage. Thanks RGHD, I'll follow up to let you know how it goes! PS, I know you read comments, let me know how well NovaLauncher works on the system, it'll get rid of that annoying swipe up gesture for the menu and add some customization.

How to install wine without the interface or being an Android version of it. I know Android x86 is based on Linux but can they run Linux programs?
@CommodoreFan644 жыл бұрын
No the base Android kernel is too heavily modified, but if you install Neverware's Cloudready OS aka Chromium OS on an X86-64 bit machine(make sure you have at least 4GB of RAM, 120GB of main storage(if you have a 2nd HDD/SSD unplug it during install so it does not accidentally wipe the drive, and install there, then plug it afterwards I know from experience of loosing some data lol) and a dual core CPU for comfortable usage, then you can go into the settings, and enable Linux support, but getting it to install at least for me at this point has been hit, and miss, but Chrome/Chromium(the opensource development version of Chrome OS) OS is based on Gentoo Linux, and BTW use Etcher to write your USB key no matter what OS you are using, as it does a better job then the official tool on the Neverware website. www.neverware.com/freedownload#intro-text

You can install linux deploy or anLinux (root) and userland or my favourite, andronix (no root). They use proot to simulate the linux environment. As long as you have 200.000+ on antutu, it will be fine. Just make sure you have more than 4 gb of ram since remember that you will need to install the linux kernel, all the compiler and programs which will run on top of your android.

Common boot menu keys on laptops: - Acer: F12 (must be enabled on BIOS) - Lenovo (Thinkpad): F12 - Lenovo (Ideapad/Yoga): F12, but most of the time you're better off pressing the small button on the side with a needle - HP: F9 - Dell: F12 - MSI: F11 - Clevo-based laptops: F7 (edit: that could be the BIOS key, I can't remember) - Asus: ESC (old laptops and Eee), new laptops: no boot menu, go into BIOS and select Boot Override - Toshiba: F12 (modern), 0 (some of the very old ones) - Samsung: F4, if I remember correctly

I just got done installing this on my old WinBook TW100 from Microcenter and to my surprise, everything works, including the notoriously finicky touchscreen. (Side note: It doesn't even work properly in Windows without futzing around in the settings, sad to say. You have to place a configuration file, etc. Just an absolute pain in the butt, really.) So far, I'm impressed. Shame it's only a 1280x720 display, because 1080p looks great with Android devices, but I must say this quad-core Atom and 2 GB of RAM perform much better on this device than Walmart's Onn brand tablet with nearly the same guts, just an Arm-based quad-core instead of an Intel chip. They're night and day in terms of differences. And this is free! No more unnecessary e-waste!

I am SO jealous. I tried to install Android on a PC and it didn't work right. Congratulations!

Cool video. I've heard of running Android X86 in virtual machines, but never as the actual OS.
