It's intriguing that you selected individuals who speak Thai with a noticeable mother tongue influence, rather than those like Mark Abbott, Adam Bradshaw, Stu Jay Raj, Andrew Biggs, who demonstrate minimal mother tongue interference when speaking Thai.

I interviewed people that I know personally rather than celebrities in Thailand. I think sometimes normal people can be more inspiring because they are just... normal people. And.. I do love accents!
@frazerhainsworth08
@frazerhainsworth08 2 ай бұрын
I totaly agree! But its just because the title says ''fluent'' and it isnt about accent there were some serious mispronunciations. I am also at a similar level to those you chose but i would never consider myself fluent. I respect everyone in the video for reaching a level that most expats never do but they are all conversational. for me and as a language Teacher myself the usual agreed definition for Fluent speakers is that they can express themselves naturally and accurately, demonstrating a high level of comprehension and mastery of the language's grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation iin all situations from small talk to giving business presentations. @@SweetLifeLanta
@SweetLifeLanta

@frazerhainsworth08 ah that's your definition, but I have a different one! For me you're fluent when you can express yourself fluently. So you don't need to think and take time to form your sentences. I did not say "native" level. These people are able to communicate freely with Thai people, express themselves, understand what people say and even have deeper conversations, and I applaude anyone who can do that. It inspires others and shows that, yes, anyone can do this. Accents by the way are the most wonderful thing and improving your pronunciation is one thing, but please don't try to sound like a native speaker in any language. Your accent is charming, makes you you and actually adds colors to the language you are learning. That's my personal opinion at least. The moment you try to bring people's level down by dictating a very high level of fluency that involves perfect grammer, pronunciation, sentence structure etc, and also "rating" their level on a scale, you're doing exactly what my german and french teachers did in high school, which I think was not doing any of us students a favor because we are hated those languages and thought we really sucked at it. For me personally it's all about communication and connection. That's what learning languages is about for me. But of course, whatever works for you and motivates you!
@SweetLifeLanta
@SweetLifeLanta 2 ай бұрын
@frazerhainsworth08 in addition, most Thai people on my local island, would never be able to do a business presentation. Does that mean they are not fluent? We just need to agree to disagree I guess!
@frazerhainsworth08
@frazerhainsworth08 2 ай бұрын
I believe clarity in definitions is essential, and the interpretation of 'fluent' you provided doesn't align with the widely accepted understanding in linguistic literature. If definitions become subjective, it undermines the utility of language.@@SweetLifeLanta

LEARN TO SPEAK..... ..

We need episode 5 of the farm ❤ this was a good video but personally my attention span couldnt finish it. Thai is very confusing but the ending was too funny 😂

Haha I understand, it is for a very specific audience. Episode 5 of the farm coming next Saturday (hopefully because I haven't started yet. Hopefully I will have some time 😅😅😅).

Really enjoyed this video and can relate as someone living in another country and learning a new language. This video inspired me. Sometimes I feel afraid and nervous speaking with the locals. I do make mistakes and they laugh at me. I am learning not to be offended. It's a normal part of the process. When I am able to answer questions, or order food, or ask for help, it feels good. But when I can joke with a local and we can laugh together - that is the best! I am wondering how Mon learned how to speak English?

@@SweetLifeLanta the reason I'm learning Thai is because Thailand, Thai people, Thai series, and the culture has so much to offer...and also I love learning languages so I decided to learn Thai and I wanna come to Thailand and live in Thailand permanently..It may take time but I hope to be in Thailand some day ☺️ and also I may marry a Thai man...and I feel like I can relate myself to the Thai people like how they are very easygoing and friendly and I would love to be in an environment like Thailand✨and I also hope to meet you soon na kha 💗 you've inspired me a lot and keep making these amazing vlogs naka 🎀 Tysm ❤️🇵🇰

All these people must have spent their past lives in Thailand. There is no other explanation to it. Whatever I learned in the first two month is all I know now and I have been here for 11 years. I adore you and hate you at the same time for your talent.
