I looooove the concept of "porcelainpunk"! The thought of the delicate and fragile porcelain pottery combined with the shiny toughness of metal and machinery is so satisfying! And of course this doll is a perfect first example of this genre, so amazingly beautiful! The work you did with the blue pencil there is PERFECT! And man, that grin, how cute is it!?

I. M obsessed with this doll, the originality is fantastic! I also really liked the mini lesson of the sub genres, never heard of dieselpunk or the others before.

This is absolutely amazing! And congrats, you found out my own frustration with finding references for “porcelain punk” art XD. I watched Battle Angel Alita and apparently really fell in love with the robot prosthetic design, and made my next DnD character a tiny Warforged made out of tin covered in a porcelain-like material. She is very pink and extremely cute, but not half as gorgeous as your art doll ;3 I really hope this genre starts getting picked up more, mainly so that I can find more references to make more beautiful, strange mixings of delicate porcelain with punk clockwork and steam!

Porcelain punk actually perfectly describes how I appear in my dreams. I at time can take on a form that is like a ball jointed porcelain doll that moves with metallic gears, tubes, and wires.

This aesthetic actually perfectly matches what I was looking for visually for a project! Thank you for the inspiration!

The way you were initially describing "porcelain punk" brought the Geisha from the live action Ghost In the Shell to mind but from the outcome of the doll idk if that would have really matched your vision either.

Really cool idea and result! Also, I’m not a historian or anything, but I believe this concept of a porcelain robot is something that kinda does exist in real life? In the 19th century there was a fad of automatons, some of which were made with porcelain. Not quite fully funcional sci fi robots, and not quite this aesthetic, but still interesting! I’ve seen a few (mostly steampunk) works that build on this idea of a porcelain robot, but it’s definitely a niche thing

This is a really cool and unique idea! A steampunk robot made of porcelain and gold is awesome! Her porcelain design is so pretty, and her face is cute. Since porcelain is delicate, I wonder if what she is made from has been enhanced somehow to be stronger. Though I personally think the stark white porcelain body doesn't match well with the soft and natural head, it looks jarring. It might look better if there was some porcelain on her face or her features were sharper. I also think she could benefit from shaving her underwear shaved off before painting, it looks a bit strange. That's just my opinion, and I think she looks great otherwise!

The idea of a porcelain robot really reminds me America Mc Gee’s Alice in Wonderland

Porcelainpunk is something you wouldn't expect, but a sentient porcelain statue made a cyborg by this (I think, I might be wrong here) ancient Chinese art of repairing broken porcelain with gold between the cracks is something I've been thinking about for a while.

beautiful! kind of reminds me of Marina Bychkova dolls 💗 and japanese porcelain artists (one is marmite sue) make the limbs and ribcage completely hollow with lace filigree-like scrolling details and metal joints. interesting stuff!

I won't lie, I don't really get where the punk comes in
@frankensteinperkele95072 жыл бұрын
As far as I understand it comes from steampunk often being linked with the punk ideologies, which can be seen in all of the steampunk pirate stuff etc. It's not as much about the aesthetics as as the mindset. Steampunk fashion is also often considered to be a subgenre of the more broad goth scene. A good example is a band called The Mechanisms, who really do put the punk in steam punk with all the anti government attitude. Hope this helps!
