🌟 The Making of OPISHU, the Orrery 🌟| Kyros Astral Chimera Collab | Doll Art Sculpture

SHE IS HERE! SHE IS FINALLY HERE! Her highness has finally graced our fields! Jokes aside, here I present you my magnum opus, the doll that took the longest ever to create.
Kyro from Kyros Workshop here on youtube held a fantastic collab with the theme "astral chimera" and I knew that I absolutely had to join. We had to combine our zodiac sign of different cultures, the western, the mayan and chinese. She is a combination of pisces, jaguar and rat.
I love her so much so I hope you too :D
Here is Opishus backstory:
Opishu is a grand and all seeing machinery in form of a chimera, sitting in her dark citadel on a mechanical calendar that stretches over the entire floor. The chimera is several meters high and oversees her realm at the edge of cliff that lies several hundred miles above a giant body of water. She is mysterious and benevolent but foresees everything, so don´t come with ill intentions, she will know how to take care of them.

Hi, it´s Kiat (Like the car brand haha), I´m 25 and welcome to my channel! ٩(◕‿◕)۶ I´m doing something creative pretty much 24/7, be it drawing, painting, decorating, customizing dolls and figures or sculpting my own figures. I just can´t stop woking on something, I´d go insane ｡ﾟ(TヮT)ﾟ｡
The dolls/figures I´m working on are usually second hand / thrift store finds, since I wouldn´t dare working on something brand new (except if it´s straight up ugly since the beginning).
I have been watching anime, reading manga and playing video games since almost 20 years now, so these things are very close to my heart. That´s also where I get my inspiration from!
My tastes in anime/mangas/games are usually pretty obscure stemming from my country being not very intrested in subcultures in general. I had to keep my interests secret up until now, you would get strange stares even if you said you like Disneyland (︶︹︺)
So now I hope I can live out my love for this on here only a little bit!

I know, the names of the planets are off odd! I´ll write here all solutions and you can check if you got them right. They are all named after space themed TV shows or characters: - Meteno is the meteor Pokemon - Bob is the new earth of Titen AE - Euphemia is the german name of Celeste from Animal Crossing - Moon 2 is from an old tumblr meme post about the parallax moon - Sari the main human character is from Transformers Animted - B.E.N is the robot from Treasure Planet - Odem is the life force in Galatic Football - Java is one of the main characters of Martin Mystery - Uminator (very difficult) is an old Sailor Moon song - & Kandrakar is a relic in W.I.T.C.H Could you guess any of them? :D

i like that even at the cost of an “unreasonable” video length you included the full process of sculpting, ive seen a lot of doll artists that show the bare minimum on camera and then pull an art tutorial where its like “now add details” and they come back and its done with incredible detail that they didnt bother to show the making of

I´m glad you like the video :) I´m still figuring out how long my videos should be, so that the viewer doesn´t get bored. For this custom I thought I needed to show you how much work I put in her that´s why this video is so long. Honestly, I think most people don´t want to edit the process, the risk of loosing the attention of the viewer with "unnecessary" clips is probably the reason why the skip this part ^^

2:40 as a kid who played A LOT with monster highs and had two/three dolls that lost a leg or even both legs i will explain how we do that(at least in my case) I wasnt so brutal w my dolls, I took care of them a lot but some dolls, from playing with them so much, the joints end up getting worn out and breaking. You don't have to be a little monster with your dolls for them to break, you just need to play a lot. I've always loved my dolls, and I definitely wouldn't break it on purpose.

Not only that, but accidents also happen. I used to take pride in my toys as well, but a few still got broken (which made me very upset). I actually had a spectra doll, whose arm broke off at the elbow, as i unpacked her from the box (ended up making me love her more) I also once sat on a doll, cause i didnt notice it, and the head snapped off.

i think there is some roughness invloved i've had a few monster highs from when i was around 13 to now (19), and they are fully in tact, hair included my cousin on the other hand only has body parts and bald heads lol

Opishu is incredible!!! I'm amazed by the work you put into her. The sculpting of the jaguar body is fantastic, the face up is beautiful, the planets and moons and stand are impressive, and the colors and pattern are lovely. I love the blue and gold. You did a fantastic job, I love her!

Out of curiosity, I looked up mayan calendar to see what animal I have. From what I gather, my chimera would have ram (Aries), cow, and jaguar. I think that's a interesting combination with many ways how it'll look

One tip, thinner plaint and jesso layers your paint is tho thick and goopy that's why your not getting smooth textures

This is ultimately totally unimportant unless you find yourself in South America, but: jaguars and ocelots are super not the same thing! They aren't even in the same subfamily, jaguars are in panthera and ocelots are in felinae. Also, ocelots are housecat-sized and very shy while jaguars are the size of a man and can literally crush your skull with their jaws, though they also prefer to stay away from humans. Edit: autocorrect why do you never do what I need you to do 😭

oh yes, I actually knew that they were not the same thing ^^ I always look these things up before writing the script, it´s also quite common knowlege in Austria that these are two different animals. I´m sorry if I said in in a way that made it sound like they were! I´m not that good in writing comprehensive english scripts, I´m still learning XD I also only ever exchanged these two because on the wikipedia page of the mesoamerican calender systems the ocelot was transcibed as the jaguar and I only ever used the concept of the ocelot for the purpose of having a vowel at the beginning of her name ^^

I noticed with other repainters and yourself that your pencils seem sooo long the sharpened tip really elongated lead and shaved wood showing, my sharpener does not do this mine makes them stubbier, may I ask what pencil sharpener do you use please? I use the pencil sharpener maschine by Dahle 101. :) The sharpener is however 15 years old by now but I recommend any Dahle sharpeners, they are great and last forever (if you are nice to them).

@@KiatBSaguru I looked them up on eBay even second hand they were over £50.00 😂 I don't even spend that much on groceries for a month so had to go for the Mobius and Ruppert small metal sharpener with 2 extra blades for £2.30 including shipping.... Fingers 🤞 it won't chew up my carandache and Albrecht Durer pencils... It's a German brand so should be good quality ☺️xx

@@kaijuk Usually the sharpeners won‘t go over 15€ where I live. :o It‘s probably because they need to be imported and that costs always more! But fingers crossed, german art supplies/office supplies are usually really good :)

if i did min like this it would be half goat cause i have capricorn, the rabbit and goat so id probs do mine as the hindu marka (earliest representation of a croc, the capricorn, then my celtic animal being the black horse. it was so difficult to find ones i liked the match up of and that didnt overlap like ones that i liked were either crocodiles or goats i did some name making and the name that sounded best to me was kara'parn with the kara from makara and pa from the celtic capall meaning horse then rn from capricorni the dimmest start of capricorn.

The amount spent on that epoxy sculpt is horribly expensive. I you can in the future, use foil to bulk up the body so you wont have to use so much!

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned it but epoxie sculpt is a toxic substance and you should wear gloves when you work with it. Just for your safety. If anyone has said it, ignore me, I don't want to be repeating anything others have already said, but I wanted to warn you in case you didn't know. Please wear gloves and advise others to do so too. It's not clay, you can't sculpt it bare handed safely. I just don't want anyone getting hurt or sick from it.
