You explained Ramadan in the most accurate and beautiful way. Couldn’t have done it better. I’m Jewish and we fast once a year on Yom Kippur for 25 hours from sundown to sundown the next day. It’s sometimes difficult-I usually get miserable in the late afternoon-but I can’t even imagine fasting for 30 days straight. I have so much respect for Muslims who do this, and especially ones who are working and able to keep up their normal lives without being able to eat.
@LexieLimitless4 жыл бұрын
Wow that's so interesting! I'll have to learn more about Yom Kippur next :)
@florad6294 жыл бұрын
Thank you Adam for showing respect. Being a muslim who is used to fast since it became obligatory i.e. 13-14 years age, I must tell you that we become used-to in a few years. First 6 to 8 years you feel it but once you become used to 15-18 years of fasting, you become so used to it that you dont feel problem in keeping it. Normally we do sehri and iftari (meals) so we dont feel that hunger, but its more the thirst which we feel. Also, more than hunger, its the habitual eating and munching cravings that creates some issues otherwise it becomes pretty easy with time.
@JawadRaana4 жыл бұрын
You get use to it after 3-4 days. I usually start preparing for it about 20-25 earlier than the ramzan start. Eat less day by day and increase the time between 2 meals. It helps.

This video has made me so proud to be Muslim. I would never change the decision I made just over a year ago to accept Islam. This is my second Ramadan as a Mexican-American Muslim revert. I am surrounded by my family constantly eating delicious food around me but the temptation is not there. Your body gets used to it the more you do it and the intention for the fast (doing it for the sake of Allah) makes it easier as well. It is routine for me now to not have any food or water until a little past 7pm. I am always nervous at the start of Ramadan but always sad when it ends. Thank you for giving this a try!

You also cannot 'meditate', only offer more prayers as you say. You may choose to meditate as an individual choice out of bounds but as you saw with her, most likely you're going to feel uncomfortable. Not eating for so long in the morning and suddenly gorging on food in the evening doesn't lead to any problem?I mean gastric attacks or acidity?cause doctors advise against such eating habits...
@annymp4 жыл бұрын
@@debmalyachatterjee22 I see we've got an uneducated person here, let me explain. First of all people don't do it only for religious reasons, fasting has been around for many centuries as it has many positive effects on your body and gives you an understanding to how poor people feel when they don't have anything to eat, you'll also appreciate food more. Scientists have proven that fasting is associated with a lot of health benefits, including weight loss, as well as improved blood sugar control, heart health, brain function and cancer prevention. Ghrelin is the so-called hunger hormone, it binds to growth hormone (GH) receptor, which strongly stimulates GH. So, eating, by itself does not makes you gain lean tissue (like muscle and bone), despite what all the makers of supplements claim. Rather, hunger may be a strong growth stimulus. Nothing turns off Growth Hormone like eating and you need GH to grow functional tissue. Of course, food provides the nutrients needed to grow, so in fact, you need both feeding and fasting cycles to properly grow. Not all feeding, and not all fasting. Life lies in the balance of the two. The cycle of life is feast and fast. The prophet Muhammed (pbuh) recommended us 1500 years ago that we should fast on mondays and thursdays apart from ramadan as to have a healthy balance between eating and fasting. He also taught us not to overeat when breaking the fast as it's detrimental to your health. He advised us to divide our meal into 3 parts: 1/3 for food, 1/3 for water and 1/3 for air. But in today’s world, many people would have you believe that fasting is bad for your health, and that you should eat all the time. The biggest worry about fasting is dealing with hunger. People assume that the hunger will get worse and worse until you cannot help yourself and start an IV donut slurry in your garage. Ghrelin, the hunger hormone, increases appetite and weight gain. It also antagonizes the effect of Leptin. Leptin is a hormone produced by fat cells which turns off appetite and makes us stop eating. Ghrelin turns on appetite. So, if you want to lose weight on a long term basis, you need to tune down ghrelin. If you don’t eat (fast), don’t you get hungrier and hungrier, ghrelin goes up and up and you’ll just gain weight? That's wrong. Eating all the time sounds like it will turn off hunger and ghrelin. But that’s far too simplistic. Surprisingly, the answer to turning down ghrelin (and hunger) is the opposite - fasting. funny how random people knew this 1500 years ago before science was even advanced. There has been a study where patients undertook a 33 hour fast, and ghrelin was measured every 20 minutes. There are several things to notice. First, ghrelin levels are lowest at approximately 8:00 - 9:00 in the morning. Circadian rhythm studies consistently find that hunger is lowest first thing in the morning, also generally the longest period of the day where you have not eaten. This reinforces the fact that hunger is not simply a function of ‘not having eaten in a while’. At 9:00, you have not eaten for about 14 hours, yet you are the least hungry. Eating, remember, does not necessarily make you less hungry. This makes your statement of "ignoring your natural instincts and starving yourself just for a religion" incorrect. There are 3 distinct peaks corresponding to lunch, dinner and the next day’s breakfast. BUT IT DOES NOT CONTINUALLY INCREASE. After the initial wave of hunger, it recedes, even if you don’t eat. Ghrelin shows a spontaneous decrease after approximately 2 h without food consumption. Over the entire day of fasting, ghrelin stays stable! In other words, eating nothing over 33 hours made you no more or less hungry than when you started! That's why the girl in this video didn't feel that that hungry at the end of the day and felt even better afterwards. Whether you ate or did not eat, your hunger level stayed the same. Eating more sometimes makes you more hungry, not less. In the same vein, eating less can actually make you less hungry. That’s terrific, because if you are less hungry, you will eat less, and are more likely to lose weight. Over 3 days of fasting, ghrelin gradually DECREASED. This means that patients were far LESS hungry despite not having eaten for the past 3 days. Everybody expects to be ravenously hungry after fasting multiple days, but actually find that their hunger completely disappears. They always say ‘I can’t eat much anymore. I get full so fast. I think my stomach shrank’. That’s PERFECT, because if you are eating less but getting more full, you are going to be more likely to keep the weight off. Of course, there's so much more to fasting but I'll leave at this note.

@@annymp it was never about making a statement on ignoring natural instincts for the sake of religion alone. The benefits of fasting have always been well documented...I was just curious about this type of dry fasting.That Fasting is crucial to metabolic cleansing is a known fact...But whether the Iftar food items are the ideal ones to break such a long fast was what I was curious about. Hope you educate me on this...
@annymp4 жыл бұрын
@@debmalyachatterjee22 iftar meals should be well balanced and contain items from each food group, such as vegetables, cereals, meat, dairy products and fruit. The fast should be broken with a balanced diet ensuring that the essential nutritional needs of your body are met. These include sodium and potassium which are lost due to sweating, especially during summer. High-sugar foods as sweets and chocolates should be avoided as they contain very little nutritional value and are high in calories. They contribute to weight gain and can lead to health issues. Our prophet (pbuh) always broke his fast with dates and water. Dates are nutrient powerhouses that are a good source of potassium. It helps you hydrate quickly and gives you instant energy to make you feel rejuvenated after the long-hours of fasting.

Thomas Samuel they can eat food just specific food, no fat food or just vegetarian food. But if I can drink it gets much easier. Cause the hunger level drops down when u are not getting food, I know is sounds weird, but it is to do with your brain. We are wired in the way that we have to eat at specific times during the day. For example somewhere from 11 to 12 we eat, and right before that we get hungry as well. While doing the fast ur brain learns that it will not get food until sunset and it revires your hunger cycle(u do get hungry here and there though) just not at those specific times anymore and not the same level as non fasting days. I think I get more hungry when I’m not fasting

Muhammad went through a time of weakness and compromised with the Meccan pagans by acknowledging the existence of three pagan goddesses alongside Allah: Lat, Uzza, and Manat.2 The Arabian goddesses are mentioned in Sura an-Najm (Star) 53:19-22. When the inhabitants of Mecca heard Muhammad's confess the importance of the ancient goddesses inside the Ka'aba, they immediately revoked their ban on him. Those who had immigrated to Abyssinia (Ethiopia) started to return home after hearing Muhammad's confession and his acceptance in Mecca. But when they arrived, they were shocked to hear that Muhammad had retracted his confession and admitted that he had fallen prey to the whispering of Satan. Thus, today Islam considers Sura an-Najm (Star) 53:19-22 are related to the time when Muhammad spoke the the Satanic Verses.

I am a Moroccan my story with Ramadan started when I am so small age of 7 we started to fast half day at 8 and 9 we fast few days but always there were computation between children , for example between me and my best friends neighbors at age of 10 my best friends had fast a hole month of Ramadan and was so jealous as I ate the day I found out he divided to fast all of the month ,from then I decided to never mist a day of any Ramadan, but unfortunately my dad and my sister decided to not wake me up because I do not have to fast and I will not fast next day but despite there decision I refused to break my fast and carry on my fasting even though I did not take good dinner at night , it was a big mistake as i vomited just few minute before finishing my day fasting and also it was a mistake from my dad and my big sister to not wake me up as my mum was visiting her parents for some reason . fortunately from that incident my parents wake me up as they know nothing will stop me to fast , Alhamdo lillah since then I have never missed a day till today

@@MusannaAhmad Umar was once looking for the text of a specific verse of the Qur’an he vaguely remembered. To his deep sorrow, he discovered that the only person who had any record of that verse had been killed in the battle of Yamama and that the verse was consequently lost. (Ibn Abi Dawud, Kitab al-Masahif, p. 10 - see also as-Suyuti’s al-Itqan fi ‘ulum al-Quran, volume 1, p. 204) “Ismail bin Ibrahim narrated from Ayub from Naf’i from Ibn Umar who said: ‘Verily among you people one would say that he has found the Quran while he is unaware of what the total quantity of the Quran was, because most of the Quran has been lost. Rather one should say that verily he has found the Quran that has appeared.’” (Fadhail al-Quran, by Qasim bin Salam (d. 222 A.H.), Volume 2, p. 135) It is reported from Ismail ibn Ibrahim from Ayyub from Naafi from Ibn Umar who said: "Let none of you say 'I have acquired the whole of the Qur'an'. How does he know what all of it is when much of the Qur'an has disappeared? Rather let him say 'I have acquired what has survived.'" (Al-Itqan,)

@@SheikhAlladeen Yes you know more than the actual Muslims or Muslim scholars who have spent centuries researching and studying. I am giving this reply bcz u r a troll and u ignored my above reply. Btw first learn complete or near complete knowledge of Islam, u will find logical answer to all your queries. The reference you are giving is a made up hadith. The only six authentic books of ahadith are asha e sitta. And your fact is historically also inaccurate. Quran's compiled copy had already been made during the caliphate of Hazrat Abu Bakr, The first calliphate. Battle of Yamama was fought after this. One complete compiled copy had already been compiled which was passed down to Hazrat Umar. He didnt have to ask someone for a verse. So please shut up u r a troll, you are not in a mood to understand, 2 Billion muslims don't care about you trolls, you will perish but Islam will remain forever. Yiu are just trying to find "faults" in Islam but you can't prove them and Don't be falsely guided by false references from fake Islamic websites. Going to ignore any of your next troll replies if you dont get serious

@@MusannaAhmad "Quran's compiled copy had already been made during the caliphate of Hazrat Abu Bakr " ? ? Why did Uthman re-write the Quran and why did he burn everything else if everything was well known there should not have been any "wrong" copies. the Qur'an as it exists today is also known as the Uthmanic codex still nobody has Mushaf al-Uthmani which was written in quraishi harf....not Arabic. According to the dominant version narrated by Bukhari, the reason for the final collection of the Quran was a dispute between Muslim forces from Iraq and Syria over the correct way of reciting it during communal prayers while on an expedition to Armenia and Azerbaijan. It is believed that the general Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman reported this problem to the caliph and asked him to establish a unified text. According to the history of al-Tabari, during the expedition there were 10,000 Kufan warriors, 6,000 in Azerbaijan and 4,000 at Rayy. A large number of soldiers disagreeing about the correct way of reciting the Quran may have caused Hudhayfah to promote a unified text. It is believed upon Hudhayfah's request Uthman obtained the sheets of the Quran from Ḥafṣa and appointed a commission consisting of Zayd and three prominent Meccans, and instructed them to copy the sheets into several volumes based on the dialect of Quraysh,
