Basic mortar tip, something used by real-life Mortar sections. After firing your first mortar round you should change the elevation. In general, mortars won't always hit in the exact same position if you fire them, but a rule of thumb is that you fire a bit past your objective and then decrease your elevation per round. This walks your mortar rounds across the objective creating a larger area of destruction and exclusion.

That depends a lot on the server as well. Some are tightly moderated and SLs are required to have comms. Some servers are just anarchy. There's also the current influx of new players. The vets are outnumbered many to one, and it will take time for all this knowledge to trickle down to the newbs.

Kind of the same with "Starship Troopers Extermination". Although this one is clearly more action oriented, it is still a team based game. Yet still most player seem to wander of mute and solo. Then again, I know from m own experience, on the PS5 I can't get my mic to work, no matter what I do. Others propable might have just the same issue.

Not sure if you've ever played it, but this is why I love Foxhole. It's super satisfying to operate a mortar or howitzer battery with a couple randos and watch the rounds fall, 100% recommend!

In Post Scriptum (Squad 44), communication is total key. I often play commander, if I get good info, is absolute brutal, because commander can send artillery, up to 12 rounds, and smoke. And totally destroy some area, clean an area. Artillery is the key in war (just look at SMO in Donbass now). You also have 2 bombs and 3 fighters to support or destroy anything. Sadly some SL dont give info, don't mark things neither give feedback of things, so you have to guess by friendly map. I know is bad to count like this in the game, but I had easily games of 45 kills as Commander.

I found the anti-personnel mine fiasco hilarious, I can imagine getting myself into that sort of situation too :) When Rush then gives you the next attack marker while you are still trying to work out how to close the mortar blueprint, it reminded me of one of those occasions at school when you've messed up in an embarrassing way, don't want to explain to the teacher how stupid you are, and are anxiously trying to remedy the situation when all of a sudden the teacher calls on you to do your bit...

Basically the way we do it in the Finnish army (Defence Forces) is to repeat important instructions so everyone hears them. Not really important in a game, but some people like to know

One reason why everything is explained so well by team members is: The game, as "Squad" also, is an ancestor of the Battlefield2 Mod Project Reality. In this game the community was/is sooo friendly. I never met a better community. No one ever said: "You are so stupid!" if something took you a little bit longer. Of course: When someone hit a mine or so, they laughed like real comrades do. But the community was always positive. I just can't emphasis enough to search for a community with a Discord or Teamspeak and to play together in a Squad with voice chat. That's how this is meant to be played. And not like all these lone wolf childish Battlefield and COD "Opfer", as we say.

As a Logi veteran of the 4th war, I've had to explain logistics to players more times than I could ever count. It's a totally different section, but when you get a good group of guys it's game-changing like nothing else. BTW an experienced Logi SL will be building spawn tents, not on mortars. It's the most important part of the game, spawns.

This mortar system is better than hell let loose because no matter what the enemy knows where your artillery is every match and recon just spawn kills you for the whole match

An overlooked indirect-fire weapon is the fixed machine gun. Constant machine gun fire on an objective from 1000m away is really a headache due to suppression and being brutal.
