I was told there was 2 Lamborghini Murcielago's which had been left for over 7 years in a storage unit. There was a price for both of them and me being me i chose the cheap one with more of a bigger issue! The manual v12 murcielago is becoming a rare car so i knew if i could repair it the huge risk would pay off. But is it fixable??

Mad respect. I bought a Lamborghini Jalpa years ago that took me 4 years to restore. It was mechanically just devastated, taken apart, and abandoned in a garage. The interior and everything else was in great shape. It was a hell of a journey to restore and it was worth all the time spent, it still puts a huge smile on my face. I had to print parts, fabricate parts, and have some stuff custom machined just to get it working. In my journey for parts, I was told by a well known shop that works on Lamborghinis, when I called them asking for parts, to "sell the car, they weren't going to waste time on my car, it would never be back on the road, go back to being a hotrod guy, you sound like one." I guess doing my own work was frowned upon. After the car was finished, and I had done a full EFI conversion, I was lucky enough to have the wallstreet journal reach out to do a section on "My Ride" as someone had told them about my restoration, so I guess that shop that told me I was wasting my time can kick rocks. Anyway, moral of the story, take it a piece at a time, take your time, do it right, YOU CAN DO IT, and I look forward to seeing you get it back on the road. Even if people tell you that you're crazy or can't do it, Lamborghini cars are a labor of love and passion. I've had the pleasure of driving a murci a few times in my life and they are absolutely amazing to drive. The howl of the v12, the acceleration, the feel, the interior, they're just amazing cars. Lamborghinis are an event EVERY time you drive one. Congrats and looking forward to seeing the journey! Also you got a GATED Murci, nice choice man. It's going to be a hell of a proud feeling when you're done. You might give the guys at bullstuff a call, they've been extremely helpful when I needed weird parts and advice, they're very knowledgeable. They also have diagrams for virtually everything on all the different models throughout the years.

Yet again, Mat brings his A-game. He must story-board each episode to make them so interesting and professional-looking. I love the fact that he's always thinking outside of the box - e.g. his wide choice of backing music to help set the scene. Everyone else just goes with mind-numbing drum & bass that has no emotion other than mental robotic enslavement. Not Mat, he cleverly mixes up classical with a wide array of sounds.. That takes confidence and creativity. Mat never blindly follows the crowd, he sets the pace for others to try and keep up.. in every aspect of his channel.. Well done dude.... Live long and prosper

Great video Mat, as always, looking forward to seeing this one progress. With regards to the dash, I used to repair dashes that have been reverse polaritied or spiked on a daily basis: The resistors are just part of it, if you can get a multimeter set to diode test and check all the diodes and capacitors around the connector, you're looking for a "000" short circuit reading. They're there to protect the dash, and if you find a short circuit, whip the component out, the dash should work until you can get a replacement soldered in. Fingers crossed you'll get it sorted 👍

@@gamersquadlifestyle I think you’ll find he’s done his homework on all the cars bought to date even if he tries to make the viewer think otherwise. He also no doubt has contacts far and wide who can source/repair the parts he needs or put him in touch with those who can. The normal financial risks that are undertaken with such a project create the drama and anticipation, drawing in the viewers. Without the contacts and KZbin income it would be a different story, hence why it sat for 7 years becoming a donor vehicle for the rest of the fleet.

One word of advice on repairing the cluster (from experience, having fixed VW clusters from the the previous generation and lots of electronics from that era): If you find any chips labeled "ULN2003" in there, just change them out. The ULN2003 is just a set of transistors for controlling things such as light bulbs, relays and the stepper motors moving the gauges in a cluster, but, in my experience, is quite fragile, mainly due to the complete lack of internal protection circuits, and is ALWAYS is the first thing to go up in smoke when a battery is hooked up in reverse. Even if they work fine at first, they will certainly fail down the road, so just change them out or have someone replace them for you if you have trouble soldering that size of chip. They only cost like half a pound, so definitely worth it when the alternative is having your cluster go out on the highway.

Cool! Dashboard-pcb components look like blown diodes, which sometimes are crowbar diodes for reverse polarity protection(shorting out by design to protect the rest). Mat, very cool find! I wish you the best of luck with this project. I think if you paid less than 100,000.00 GBP for it, that you’ll make out pretty good (not counting your love of labor on it). I purchased a Murcielago about 1 year ago, my dream car and first exotic. I absolutely love the car! The timeless low profile and wide body design, the signature V12 only doors and yes, the sound of that rear engine V12 roar through an aftermarket exhaust. Although, it was in nothing near the condition that your car is currently in, I’m sure that in due time, you’ll be having the Murcielago experience. Also, you’ll get to build this Murcielago to YOUR liking. Parts for these are expensive for sure, but don’t depend solely on the used market, a lot of it is way overpriced for the quality you are getting and in many cases more than NEW. The thing about new parts is that they can take a while before they actually show up at your door step. There are also the aftermarket products, which can be more affordable than new original parts and in better condition than used. Great find! Looking forward to viewing your progress!

I was going to say, check the board on the cluster for burned bits. The surface mount components can be replaced, locations marked R10 or C14 for example R is resistor and C is capacitor, you also have Diodes which often pop because of a miss connection, likely a few bucks and an electronics guy and she's back in business 😉

Without a doubt the most expensive Lamborghini you will ever own is a cheap one. Even with all of your labor for free AND scouring parts on the internet it is stratospherically expensive to properly put these cars together from boxes. Of course your situation is a different because as a content creator the difficult path actually pays with viewership revenue so I wish you all the best in your re-build. My channel has a bunch of Murcielago DIY videos and hopefully they can be of assistance. Lastly regarding the the engine do seek out an experienced tech to help you with the re-build. Making a mistake on these engines is insanely expensive so you want to make sure to ask your questions before just guessing on the answer. Best of luck!

Matt just found your station while recovering from Covid. Love your enthusiasm buddy! I restore 1rst Gen Ford Mustangs here in Florida. I’ve done about 12 of them. Have 2 In the garage now. It always comes down to air, fuel and spark. We all know that. It’s a bitch cleaning up another persons work sometimes. Not always but yes sometimes. Keep all the basics in front of you and over time Sherlock Holmes will find that clue! Look forward to the next episode. Cheers 🎉
