Rosie will only be small for a blink and you are just right to cut down on your studies to cherish this first year with her. Don't put too much pressure on yourself, you're doing what's right for you and your beautiful little family!

Aine Marlow Yes that's what I was thinking, I want to spend as much time as I can with Rosie, without being stressed out, so this seemed like the right thing to do! 😊 xx

I have a 1st class honours degree from the OU, Started in 1989 finished in 1998 having completed 480 credits, during that time I started in Bristol, change jobs with a 32 mile commute to Swindon, accepted a job transfer to Denver Colorado and finished the degree from there. The reason I did 480 credit was to back peddle waiting for the BSc to be introduced. I also took the year I moved counties off. I totally understand where you're coming from in this video, since this is sept 2019 & the video's dated Nov 2017, hopefully you've finished by now. If not don't give up, take the time you need for family, In my experience with interviews and alike an OU Degree is worth more in terms of what it says about your character. I've had interviews in which the motivation and logistics of study were of more interest than the degree itself.

You are so sensible! Your reflections on why you had to drop the module are so helpful in a positive way.

Although this was 4 years ago I completely agree with the 120 credits a year being exhausting! Currently doing my BA in Health and social care with the OU whilst having 2 under 2, I’m now on 60 credits a year and have found this so much better with having children

Doing less or even having to stop for a while is sometimes just what you have to do. I signed up for something before my first baby came along and also found I just couldn’t give him the attention he needed and I just felt guilty so I actually decided to a stop altogether, but now my last baby is turning three (I have had 4 all in) and I am finally getting some more time to myself. So I am hoping to sign up for open university next year and I’m really looking forward to it. It’s never too late. To everything there is a season 😁

Thank you for making your videos about the OU. I have a 5 month baby and am finally looking into studies again. Its great to hear about others experiences.

Wow! I know this was 4 years ago - but I am more than impressed that you're even doing 60 credits with a baby to look after! Perhaps you've now finished - or maybe you've even had to reduce it to 30 credits per year (if your degree program allows). Good luck in whatever you're doing now. Hopefully all went well. I've completed two degrees with the OU and I never did more the 60 credits per year. Respect to you.

Hi. Thanks for this video. I was wondering, what advice would you give to me. I’m currently pregnant and my baby is due in July. I’m considering doing an OU degree, starting October. Would you recommend it? Or would you recommend waiting until my son is older before taking on a degree. Thank-you.

Do you recommend getting Acces Module for someone who hasn’t been to school for 12 years and hasn’t been to college/university.(high school graduate) if I take the module this month can I get started right away before the February enrollment?

Hi Heather, I can fully relate to a lot of what you are saying xxx I have 7 weeks old baby now and the days when I am stressed she gets the hormone through the milk and doesn't settle down xxx I am jealous of your little one sleeping through the night as I have a baby that doesn't sleep through the night and has colic xxx I found out that if I put her in a pram and leave her in the garden gives me about an hour to myself as she loves fresh air and goes instantly to sleep xxx Slimming World healthy way of eating mean happy baby, concentrate on yourself as well as your little one xxx Breast feeding can be sometimes a hard job but it helps to melt the pounds away xxx

good video. (I would change the title as it looks like you gave up all together, you did not. You just did what many other people do really and who do not even have a baby!). I understood, the highest scoring module at level 3 counts to your final degree, (same at level 2) so even if this year was not brilliant then you have new chances. Agreed research your module choice if you can before, to get a clear idea of what is to come.
@HeatherDarroch6 жыл бұрын
Yes I think the module I've chosen to take instead of the one I've dropped is much more suited to my interests. I think the previous choice was a panic induced by pregnancy hormones 😂 x

As you study full-time, how many hours a week do you spend studying and working?
@lightisfading6 жыл бұрын
60 credits is approx 15 hours per week, 120 twice that. Level 1 tends to take less, which can mean many people get a bit of a shock to the system when they start level 2.

That’s why you were struggling. You should only do 60 -90 credits per year when you have a job and child.

I only struggled when my daughter was born and that was while I wasn't working, I never struggled doing 120 credits whilst working full time 😊 for me it just wasn't worth the stress while my daughter was just a newborn.
